Literary Classics Reviewed by a Redstater

I have a cousin, Godfrey, who has a degree in communications. He believes this entitles him to give his opinion on anything and everything. Most of the time, the guy doesn't really get it. On top of that, he belongs to a mega-church that preaches hellfire. He's a lot of fun to talk to drunk. I've asked him to review some classic novels he read in high school and college. I told him I would be posting them on Amazon to help keep readers informed. Here is the result.

Challenge Winner @gldstn presents Siren Song

I ran a Challenge on www.theprose.com last month to write a horror story with an unconventional villain. Here is the second co-winner - Best Story

Siren Song

Once we were song birds in search
of kidnapped daughters,
but our gifted wings now rot like sailors on
this cursed rock.
We have nothing left to feed our guests but
their predecessors and our own goose bumped flesh.
Call us home wreckers with no grasp on
keeping homes-
I hear it’s common for those who can’t do,
to imitate and destroy.

A Writing Career Map

It was so easy to go indie right from the start. I had my manuscript, far from polished but at least it was complete, and a sever lack of patience. I wanted my book published now. So, I did it. The ebook looked okay, the paperback was a trainwreck. I think I've previously talked about seeing my first paperback before and the sinking feeling upon realizing my mistakes. In case you haven't heard, here is a list of how I effed up:

 - Font was far too small to be comfortably read.
 - Para...

R. R. Bowker's Monopoly

(Please note: ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number. They are a 13-digit serial number for your book. If you publish your book in digital and paperback, you need two ISBNs because doubling up is not allowed. Also, ISBNs are assigned to one purchaser only, they cannot be resold.)

Challenge Winner @LeaLu presents Moonlight

I ran a Challenge on www.theprose.com last month to write a horror story with an unconventional villain. With Halloween approaching, it seems appropriate to post the winning pieces. Here is the first winner - Most Original Villain Moonlight He stood at the edge of the water, looking down into the dark abyss. The circular moon shone on the water’s surface. He had run from home when he couldn’t take it anymore, and he didn’t plan on ever going back.  Suddenly, a drop of wate...

The Fringe

Have you noticed I haven't offered up a new post in two months? Just those few links to the blogging I've done for Prose. While I think those posts are some of the best I've written (and a big thank you to Maggie Greene for being my editor!), I am tired. Tired of trying to explain to beginners how best to write when I'm not 100% sure of it myself. Tired of creating garbage because I am forcing my writing. Tired of playing the "Indie Author Game."

By indie author game I mean the laundry li...
