5 Reasons I Prefer Small Publishers

Penguin Random House, Macmillan, HarperCollins, Hachette, and Simon & Schuster

Do those names make your heart beat a little faster? Wouldn't you just LOVE to receive an acceptance from any of their imprints? How happy would you be to score an advance large enough to allow you to tell your employer to shove it? Sounds good, right?

Yeah. I thought so too--
for about ten seconds.

That's right. It's another post glorifying indie authorship and small publishers the world over!

Why large publishers...

In Publishing You Are Whatever You Say You Are

The publishing industry has some interesting quirks. My favorite is the lack of regulation and requirements.

I am what I say I am -
A Writer
It was tough for me to "come out" as a writer. I am a private person and usually don't offer up many details about myself. I wrote two complete manuscripts before I let people know that I liked to write. It's tough for me to pin down where that hesitation comes from. Maybe it was because the process was so new to me, I didn't want to be asked any questions...

The Dead Don't Speak - Chapter 3

Chapters 1 & 2 have done well. Thank you to everyone who has given this novel a chance. Here's Chapter 3! If you like what you see, you can pre-order The Dead Don't Speak Here.

Walter, somewhat forcefully, insisted Zach do three shows the first day. Ignoring Snider's advice, Walter filled the barn with one hundred twenty seats; this way the first show would be profitable. He had insured a good turn-out by handing out ten-dollar bills to five guys and asked them to go around to sta...

The Dead Don't Speak - Chapter 2

I saw a very positive response to my posting of Chapter 1. I LOVE positive responses. So here's Chapter 2. Enjoy! You can pre-order the entire novel Here.

Phones rang all over Simon Simmons' suite at Camelot. He stirred a little, coughed, cleared his throat of phlegm, and slid out from under Cassandra's arm. Simon rolled over, silently cursing whoever was calling before noon, and picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Simon Simmons, how you doing?" Daphne Carter responded.
"Who is th...

The Dead Don't Speak - Chapter 1

I have been asking so many people to pre-order my novel. Then I started to think, would I buy it? Not without a decent preview I wouldn't. So here is the entire first chapter. I hope you enjoy!
  Chapter 1
"Beth! Bethany! Wait!" A man called from far off. A set of feet in women's footwear stopped near the edge of the tent. Zach stared at them beneath the tent flap. His ears tingled at the sudden intrusion to his preshow jitters. "You can't leave me now. She'll never find out," the man...

Facebook Tips for an Author's Friends and Family

This one should be short. There are a couple of ideas I want to touch on to better help an authors friends and family support them on Facebook. Authors, feel free to spread this one around. It can only help!

Like = "I saw your post"I'm always happy to see people Like what I post on Facebook. The only time that Likes get on my nerves is when I post something about one of my books. When I mention a novel of mine on Facebook (especially with a link to the book), I would much rather see my post sh...

The Germ

The Prompt Photo:

Looking at the gap in vegetation, the last of my clean fields, I know it's over. The Germ has found my sole means of sustenance and is proceeding to carry out its first order. This will be the last Germ Trail I see before I starve to death.

Standing here in my thermal diving suit, I take a moment to appreciate the view. The yellow-green field against the rocky hill beyond. The trees, so bare and perfectly straight with just a tuft of emerald leaves at the top. This is hom...

The Dead Don't Speak - Sneak Peek #1

The cover wasn't enough. I'm in a sharing mood today. Here's a peek at the book:

Simon spit the scotch, his fifth of the day, halfway across the living room when Cassandra Hernandez’s face appeared on his television screen. His eyes searched frantically for information about when she was found. It took a moment for his drunken brain to realize it was an AMBER Alert. That meant they thought she was missing.
So they hadn’t found her.
Simon’s phone rang. He answered, “What?”

“Stay calm…” It was...

The Dead Don't Speak

With my 2nd novel coming out 22 days from now, it's time to start sharing some of its awesomeness.

I think I will start at the beginning. So, here's the cover:

It's a crime thriller that takes place in Las Vegas. It has sex, drugs, (no rock and roll because music copyrights are insane!), murder, revenge, and dark humor. The Dead Don't Speak is a guilty pleasure thriller if ever there was one!  The Dead Don't SpeakOut 6/2/15Exclusively on Amazon
