People Actually Read My Blog [1]

It is strange to think that people actually read my blog.

I know it is a strange thought that a writer would think it strange that people actually read his stuff, but I do. Of course, I love to hear that people might be reading anything that I write. It is just that it is a surprise to learn that somebody might have read something I wrote. Or even that somebody knows that I write.

I thought of this the other day when one of my friends and co-workers said something about my MediocreMan blog. ...

Routine: My Favorite Fuel for Writing

My favorite fuel for writing is routine.

My morning routine includes a quick jaunt on Twitter. There waiting for me nearly every day is the #SixWordStory prompt. I relish the chance to write a six word story. To follow the prompt and think of six or less words for a story. (I sometimes break the rules and go with seven, but that is a different story.) The other day, I had to reply to another prompt besides the #SixWordStory.

The prompt was not really a prompt. It was a question from a wri...

That Still Small Voice

That still small voice. I need to listen to it all the time.

I dropped a false floor panel on my finger the other day. I was pushing up the edge from underneath by reaching through an adjacent hole. It was tight and I had to push hard. When it finally released, it popped up, then came crashing down on my middle finger. I know why we have fingernails. That way we can smash those instead of our precious fingers.

I would have avoided the pain and subsequent (almost immediate) blood blister h...

Creativity on the Internet

(Click the picture to watch my 2018 Trip to the Zoo video.)

The internet can be a great place to show off your creativity. Or lack thereof.

I have been writing and posting on the internet for many years now. Since 2006. (Or probably more accurately since 2007 since I just had a couple pieces in 2006.) Still, it has been a long run of weekly blog posts. Something I never dreamed I would be doing fourteen years later. After all, who dreams of writing in obscurity for fourteen years? Nobod...

The (Idea) Ether

There is this old imaginary substance in the universe called ether. Nowadays ether is where forgotten ideas go to be snatched up by somebody else.

Back in ancient times, people could not understand or imagine a vacuum. They thought there had to be a medium to transmit the light and heat of the sun. So they figured that ether was the thing. For the ancients, space and indeed the universe was full of ether.

We no longer believe that there is ether in space. Of course, we do have Ethernet and...

Brilliant Idea

I do not know about you, but sometimes I think I have a brilliant idea. Then, I forget it.

We all have ideas. Ideas for great creations. Ideas for movies and books and videos. Ideas for blogs and vlogs. Ideas for pictures and drawings and… Well, you get the idea. We have ideas for everything under the sun. Or even under the moon and stars.

At any rate.

The interesting thing about those ideas is that when we get them, we think they are brilliant. (I know it is not just me.) We think th...

Digital Dust

I wonder if digital books on digital bookshelves gather digital dust, just waiting to be read.

If you have books on bookshelves at home, you know that some of those books gather dust. They are those books that are not read often. The ones that sit there and sit there and sit there just waiting to be read. Not the reference books that you refer to often. Not the books that you read over and over and over again to your kids at bedtime. Not your favorites that you read every day or every year...

Inktober 2020

(Click the picture to watch my Inktober 2020 video.)

I know October has long since passed, but I realized that I did not write about one of my latest creative endeavors – Inktober.

For those who have never heard of it, Inktober is just a month of making art with ink. If you did not guess, the month in question is October. Ink plus October equals Inktober. Naturally. As far as catchy names trying to get people to be creative, I like Inktober much better than I like NaNoWriMo. (By the way. ...

Kimchi for Lunch

Even though I do not have them very often, I am going to miss having smelly food for lunch.

I am heading back to the school building after being away for almost a year. It will be good for my psyche. It will be good for my social (even though we are still social distancing). It will be good for my soul. It will be good just to be back at work even if the kids are not there. Yes, I have been working this whole time, but it is different teaching and working from home.

To be sure, it has been...
