My Latest Book - 101 DailyPrompt Pieces
(#ad) click
I finished my latest book. Finally.
If you have been keeping count, I have over two dozen books out on Amazon now. (They are not all available in print, but I am getting there.) This latest one is number 25, and it is a fun book.
It is fun because it is a bunch of short stories and poetry. And it was fun for me because I really did not do much work on it. I just had to format it and get it out there. Which I actually thought would only take me a couple weeks, but took seemin...

Snow’s Gang
“Okay Numbers, give me the breakdown.”
“Okay, Snow. You’ve got it.
“Our underground casinos are rakin’ in the dough. Dice is even thinkin’ of other ways to expand there. We don’t make as much money with the poker games, when they’re legit, but we still win a lot. Some of those boys need a place to play once they get kicked out of the real casinos. So we take ‘em in for a cut of their action. But if they cheat, we get all their take and they’re out on the streets again.
“Wrench is workin...

My Dwarf Name
The Seven Dwarfs do not live at my house, nor am I one of them. But if I was an addition to the Seven Dwarfs of fame, my name would be Grunty.
It seems that the seven dwarfs from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fame are always on people’s minds. Or maybe just around me. I have been called, Sleepy and Dopey mostly, but I may have earned other names in my time. And yes, I mean earned.
I can sleep pretty much any time, any place. (I do not like to do so on the road though. And I tend to find...

Bombs Bursting in Air
Independence Day 2025 is done and over with, and I am pretty much done and over with Fourth of July Celebrations.
Now, I am not a fuddy duddy. Or a stick in the mud. Or a naysayer. No bah humbug in me. Not really. I am just not that interested in fireworks anymore. Which is odd in and of itself.
When I was younger, I would love to shoot off firecrackers. We would throw them high in the air or as far as we could to see if they would explode in the air. Or we would hold those explosive cy...

Hyperbole, Exaggeration, and Irony
Is there such a thing as a lie in writing?
Writers use literary devices called hyperbole, exaggeration, or irony, but they all come down to the same thing. Lying. You are not really saying what you mean. Which is the definition of a lie. But what about hyperbole, exaggeration, and irony? Are they really lies? Or do we use those writing devices to communicate more clearly? Even when we might be saying the opposite of what we mean.
Now, I never use hyperbole. I mean it is ridiculous to go...

Is It Really Inventory?
Have you ever had a bunch of blog posts ready, but you cannot post them yet for one reason or another? Yeah. Me neither.
Okay. I have. I am in that situation right now. I have a couple blog posts ready to put out there, but due to other constraints, I cannot post them yet. One is about a book that I have written but that I am waiting for material for the back cover. One has references to my other website, which is currently broken. Which could actually be a blog post in and of itself. ...

Adult Pacifiers
I doubt that I am the first to think about it, but phones seem to be adult (and teen) pacifiers.
We did not give our children pacifiers when they were young. I am not exactly sure why, but it was something we were firmly against. Part of it was probably because we did not grow up with them. At least not too much. Every baby did not have them when I was a baby. Or at least that is what I tell myself. I do remember seeing kids (including my younger siblings) holding bottles with their han...

Exhaustion and Exhilaration
Exhaustion and exhilaration are not mutually exclusive, especially when you are doing something you love.
We recently finished the 2025 Track and Field (T&F) season, and what a season it was. We finished second in our classification in our state! For the second year in a row! It was quite exhilarating, to say the least.
And it was exhausting. Quite the slog. Which means that there is a bit of relief that it is over. And yet… And yet I can hardly wait until it all starts again in nine o...

God’s Pleasure
Liddell at the British Empire versus U.S.A. relays meet held at Stamford Bridge in July 1924.
This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author’s life plus 70 years or fewer.
One of our pastors quoted Eric Liddell in a sermon he gave recently. “God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.” I wondered to myself, “Is that why I write?”
Eric Liddell was a Scottish runner who won the Olympic gold medal in th...

Website Maintenance
I have a couple different websites. And they usually work. But…
I currently have two different websites for my writing. Since you are reading this, you know about MediocreMan.com. If you look to the left of the main part of the page, you will see that I have links to my YouTube channel and to my other website, MichaelTMiyoshi.com. I do not post that much on MichaelTMiyoshi.com. So I do not always know when it breaks. As I write this post, it is currently broken. And since I am the autho...
