Happy New Year 2025!

Happy New Year! It is 2025!
Oh what a great day, to be so alive.
The old year has gone, it is time for the new
But before we celebrate, let us review.

The old year did bring, days numbered 366
Yes, leap year it seems, did bring its old tricks.
That one extra day, to live a bit more
Or to be down in the dumps, or be a little bit sore.

I suppose we could dwell, on the bad things of the year
Of disasters and happenings, that caused us much fear
Of wars and destruction, we bring one another...

Christmas 2024

Merry Christmas to all.

I hope that you, dear reader, are having a wonderful Christmas. I decided that I would put out a blog post on Christmas day instead of my normal Saturday because… Well, because it is Christmas. And Christmas is a most blessed day.

Now some would say that Christmas is THE most blessed day. I would argue against that a bit. After all, who does not want to have a little argument at Christmas? Okay. Not that kind of argument. I mean it could devolve into that, but th...

Have You Read My Books?

(#ad) click

Just because you have books out there, does not mean that anybody will buy them. Or maybe that is just me.

When I tell people that I have over a dozen books on Amazon ready for people to buy, they think it is amazing. “Wow! That many books!?” They are amazed for a moment and then nobody buys them. Okay. Not nobody. I have a friend and colleague who bought three of my books after a road trip to a track and field meet. He said that he liked the first chapter of D.B. Cooper and...

Glass Does Not Like Me

I do not know about you, but there are inanimate objects that do not like me. Glass is one of them.

Motorcycles and knives and glass are all inanimate objects that have one thing in common. They do not like me. I know. It is silly for me to think that, but my experience so far has shown me that it is true.

Motorcycles have hurt me since I was a child. Oh not that hurt. No big crashes or lost limbs or anything like that. I got thrown on my back by a motorcycle. I hurt my leg on a mot...

I Was Not Going to, but…

I suppose there are times when we think we are not going to do something then do it anyway. Times when we think, “I was not going to, but…” That was what happened with my story about dying in my dreams. I was not going to post the story, but then I decided that I would. Even if it is a bit morbid. Even if it seemed unlike me.

There are other times when I think that same thought. I am not going to do this or that or the other. Then, I decide that it is okay. It is okay to do this or that...

More D.B. Cooper Stories?

(#ad) click

Aw c’mon. My D.B. Cooper story is just as plausible as the latest one. Maybe.

D.B. Cooper will just not go away. No matter that the case has been deactivated or put in storage or whatever the term is for not being closed but not being pursued. (Or maybe it is closed. I forget.) The latest story is that somebody on the F.B.I.’s short list of suspects had a parachute in his belongings. He was on their short list because he committed a similar crime a few weeks after the origina...

If You Die in Your Dream…

I have the answer to the question, “If you die in your dream, do you die in real life?” And (spoiler alert) the answer is definitely, “No.” At least I didn’t.

The question of dying in real life when you die in your dream is a strange and morbid question to be sure, but we have this strange fascination with death. I am sure part of the reason is that we wonder what happens after death. (Which is a question I am not going to delve into in this particular blog post. But it was a thought provo...

Comments on Wired For Story

#Ad Wired for Story

I do not write that much about books, but a friend loaned me a book that I need to make a few comments about because it is a book that makes me think about my own writing.

Wired for Story by Lisa Cron has been a good book so far. (I am just over halfway through.) I would recommend it for anybody who is serious about writing. Even the introduction and first chapter are worth the time to read. Which is part of the point of the first chapter anyway. You must hook the reade...

Meeting Other Writers

Meeting other writers is a fun thing, especially in real life.

It is always fun to meet another writer. You can chat about things that those who think writing is crazy would never think about.

How much do you write?
When do you write?
Do you write every day?
How many books have you written?
Who is your publisher?

Questions like these can turn into long conversations. Or at least significant conversations. When I think about it, I know that there are times when I ...

Sometimes Writing Is a Chore

I do not often feel so, but sometimes writing is a chore.

I love to write.
I love to rhyme.
But writing is a chore.
At least some of the time.

Like any job or career or lifestyle, writing is full of joy and pain. It is a job and it is a joy. And like any job, there are good and bad things about it. Even if you love it.

One of the things I hate about writing is preparing to publish. Getting things ready for the world is not always an easy task. Sure, blogging is easy. Just throw stuff out ...
