Writing Momentum

When I wrote about not being in a funk, I mentioned momentum. Then, I completely ignored the thought. So I thought I would come back to it.

Momentum is a strange thing. It is also a simple thing. Both in physics and in life.

Momentum is merely mass times velocity in physics. At least mathematically. And it is just the mathematical expression of Newton’s first law. A body at rest tends to stay at rest and body in motion tends to stay in motion unless it is acted upon by an outside force. ...

Not in a Funk

I am not in a funk. Not really. But it seems that my blog writing momentum has gone down.

I have been writing my blog for a long time. Since 2006, to be precise. Actually, I did not start my foray into websites and actual blogging until early 2007. But that is another story. A story that I think I already wrote. But who knows? Certainly not I. After all, I write my blog, post, and promptly forget it. Which is not entirely true. I usually remember topics that I wrote about, but forget...

USMC Educator Workshop Debrief

Neither the United States Marine Corps nor any other component of the Department of Defense has approved, endorsed, or authorized this blog or this blog post.

If you are an educator and you do not see the United States Marine Corps (USMC) or any branch of the military as a viable option for all of your students, you should open your mind by attending a USMC Educator Workshop.

I attended a USMC Educator Workshop in early July. The goal of the weeklong workshop is, of course, to get educators t...

Retirement?

People keep asking me when I plan on retiring. I keep wondering if they are trying to get rid of me. And I keep telling them that the Lord will let me know.

This next school year will be my thirtieth year teaching. At the same school. Teaching the same subjects (for the most part). Almost exclusively in the same room. It has been a wonderful time. The kids have mostly been great. The colleagues have been amazing. And I have enjoyed almost every minute of it. But after thirty years, I ...

Sign My Book?

I am always surprised when people want me to sign my books.

I decided that I need to give away a few books. I figured maybe that will help with promoting them. Prime the pump so to speak. Maybe it will even generate a review or two. Even if they are not reviews from verified buyers. Or whatever they are called.

So far, I have only given my books to people I know. My friends and relatives. Not to all of them. I may not have that many friends, but way too many relatives to give ever...

Please Keep Your Seatbacks Upright Always

My wife, the Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi, thinks that airplane seatbacks should always be kept in the upright position.

Whether or not you have ridden in an airplane lately, you are probably familiar with the line, “Please place your seatbacks and trays in the upright position preparing for takeoff.” (Or landing.) Well, in the Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi’s mind, those seatbacks should always be in the upright position. Especially, if you have somebody sitting behind you. Which is always, since ...

Independence Day 2024

People celebrate Independence Day in interesting ways. They eat too much and blow too much stuff up. Or maybe that is just me.

I am sure I have written much about Independence Day. Not a blog post every year, but enough to be able to search and find many references to and blogs about Independence Day. I suppose that is because I think it is an important holiday. Not quite a holy day, but close. And so I have written about it quite a bit.

(Now, if my blog was a TV show, I would put togethe...

An Interesting Phenomenon Explained

It is funny. I wrote about my interesting phenomenon a bunch of years ago and just posted it a week ago. So I thought I would explain. At least a little bit.

If you did not read about it yet, my interesting phenomenon has been that when I have an inventory of writing for my blog, I do not have anything to write about. But as soon as I have little to no inventory, I come up with something. I have always found that to be interesting. After all, the glass cannot always be half full. It must...

An Interesting Phenomenon

It is an interesting phenomenon. When I have an inventory of writing pieces ready for my blog, I end up not being able to write new stuff.

I write six days a week fifty two weeks out of the year. And I have done so for many years. Not as long as I have been blogging, but still, quite a while. Some people think it is crazy. After all, to what end do you just keep doing something in obscurity? But fame and fortune are not the end result that this writer is seeking. It was, but I have figur...

Congratulations Class of 2024

To the graduating class of twenty twenty-four
When you started high school you did not walk through the door
Instead you were merely faces on the screen
Or black rectangles because you did not want to be seen.
You made it through all those classes hybrid
Yes, some of you came and some of you hid.
You made it through the pandemic years
With emotions ranging from cheering to tears.

It is funny remembering that when you came back
I still did not know you because your face had a mask.
And I was su...
