When the Well Runs Dry

I am not sure, but I believe the writing well will never run dry.

I have surely had times when the idea well or writing well has been short of water. But I do not think that the well has ever run completely dry. Nor do I believe that it ever will. At least not as long as I keep writing. Not as long as I keep priming the pump.

Now, I know that people do not know much about pumps. They might know that you can get a pump, plug it in, and liquid will flow. Or they know about their water pump ...

I Like Poetry Much

I missed National Poetry Month, but that is okay
I will just write a short poem, and be on my way
For rhyming is something that I like to do
I hope as you read this, you like it too.

I was thinking about writing and such
When behold I remembered, I like Poetry much
And though I’ve not oft on my blog spun a rhyme
I thought that it might now be a good time.

For I have missed Poetry as part of my life
‘Though in times past, Poetry came only in strife
Yes, Poetry came when my heart did despair

Writing Is Like Breathing

Writing is like breathing.

I have said, “Writing is like breathing,” many times in my blog posts. I even said once that I wrote about it. (Creativity on the Internet) But I have looked on my blog and I have never said more than a paragraph about why writing is like breathing. So I figured I ought to fix that.

We all know that we need to breathe to live. Our lungs fill with air, the oxygen in the air gets absorbed into our blood cells, which circulate through our body and give said oxygen t...

The Things You Remember

It is funny the things you remember about people. I tend to remember what they said. And often, I write those memories so that I never forget them.

I was doing the crossword puzzle on the day of this writing and there were two words that made me laugh. ROTUND and DAD. (They are in capital letter because I solve crossword puzzles in all caps.) I actually laughed when I wrote the word ROTUND in the puzzle. Then, one of the next answers happened to be DAD. That amused me even more. After a...

Do Not Look Now

I know why I do not look at my statistics for my websites and social media accounts. They offer no encouragement.

If I was to judge whether I should continue writing based on statistics on my websites and social media accounts, I would have quit long ago. I mean, c’mon. A couple hundred followers on social media after nearly twenty years! (I have more than a couple hundred on Facebook and less than a couple hundred on X. Which by the way, I still have a hard time not calling it Twitter. I...

Going Nowhere Fast

Have you ever felt like you were going nowhere fast? Yeah. Me neither.

There are times when I am writing and I feel like I am not accomplishing anything. I mean seriously. Blogging since 2006 and I have just a few faithful readers. Most of whom I know. Over twenty books out on Amazon and only a handful of sales. Writing and writing and writing, but not seeming to get any traction with readers.

I suppose that I ought to back up my claims. I suppose that I should see my statistics on my b...

Why I Do Not Write about Teaching

After I wrote about maybe writing about teaching, coaching, and mentoring, I thought about why I have not done much of it. The reason is that I do not really like to get in trouble.

Okay. I would probably not get into trouble writing about teaching, coaching, and mentoring. Probably. But you never know. After all, we all say stuff and do stuff that is probably appropriate when given the full context of a situation. But no story could ever give the full context of any story. Which is why ...

Teaching, Coaching, Mentoring

I put out a post a little while ago asking what people might like to see me write about on my blog. I actually got a reply!

I subscribe to a service that gives me social media posts each day of the month. I post something from them pretty much every day on Twitter/X. (I know. I should get over my notion that X will ever go back to Twitter, but I have a difficult time calling it X. I suppose that is another story. I wonder if I wrote it already. Hmm.) At any rate. I have been posting th...

Malapropisms

I wondered if I could do an entertaining blog post with a bunch of malapropisms. (You be the judge.)

Malapropisms are sayings where you substitute a wrong word in for the right word. They are usually just mistakes. Like a misspelling or other error. But people can also use them to great comic effect.

I suppose Miss Spelling could be an error. But her parents probably do not think so. I actually do not know if that is a malapropism or just silly. I suppose it is just silly. But I cou...

Still Amongst the Beach Detritus

[Note: This is the sequel to the sequel, Again Amongst the Beach Detritus. Or the third part to Amongst the Beach Detritus.]

“Stop!”

I felt the pressure let up. I was given a reprieve. The man in the uniform rotated the weight of his foot off of my body onto his heel. Then, he stepped away. I was free. And I did not waste any time. I rushed off to a hiding place amongst the beach detritus. I would bide my time there to see if I could get my claw on the precious again.

I was not ...
