To Tweet or Not to Tweet

The original image is in the public domain due to its age.

To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question:

Whether it is more productive to garner retweets and gain outrageous followings

Or to take up the quill against the dread enemies, Writer’s Block and Inertia

And by opposing, end them.

To write or to tweet: ay, there’s the rub!

For to write is to live. And to tweet is to promote.

But what is a writer without a quill?

Or an audience?

But nay, must a writer have readers?

Is not a writer merely someo...

Ludicrous Man

I know a man who some have suggested be called Prolific Man.

I was at our writing group a few weeks ago when one of the writers was boasting about all the projects he had going. In fact, he said that he was planning on finishing and publishing ten digital books this summer. Everybody was flabbergasted by the thought of somebody actually having that many books ready to put out in any form. That was actually when one of the other writers said that he ought to call himself Prolific Man.

Personally...

Soccer Indifference

The opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2014 by Danilo Borges/Portal da Copa licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0

People here in the United States seem to only really care about soccer or fútbol once every four years when the World Cup tournament comes around. (Unless of course, you live in an area where spectators support both men’s and women’s professional teams and it seems everybody played or still plays the game. But that is another story.)

The FIFA World Cup just ended and Germany was crowned t...

Fond Baseball Memories

Baseball season is a time of fond memories for me. I see the kids at the park playing games and it makes me think back to those times when my wife and I used to sit in the stands cheering for our kids.

I remember the parents sitting in the stands cheering for their kids. (Unfortunately, I also remember with dismay some of them yel...

Gol! Gol! Gol!

Gol! Gol! Gol!

It is time for crazy fans to strut their stuff. Time for flags to fly. Time for painted faces and noisemakers to crowd the stands. It is world cup soccer time.

We do not have any broadcast TV at our house so we do not get to watch the world cup except on the computer. But it does not really matter that much. As much as I love to play sports, I am not much of a fan. Unless my own kids are playing. Still, the world cup has special memories for me.

When we were kids, we watched the w...

Their Biggest Fan

“Hi Mom!” is what we see athletes mouth the first time (and seemingly every time) they are on TV. Especially, after they make some great play (which is the reason they are getting the close-up in the first place). Bill Cosby has a routine where he points out what seems an injustice. After all, he laments, was it not the dad who played catch and critiqued technique and maybe even coached the athlete? So why did the kid say, “Hi Mom!” instead of “Hi Dad!”?

My boys – Thing 1, Thing 2, and Thing 3...
