Internet Pooper Scoopers

I am glad that there are no internet pooper scoopers out there scouring the interweb.

If you have ever been to a parade, you probably noticed the pooper scoopers following the horses. Or any animals for that matter. Some of those pooper scoopers drive their ATVs and have little trailers to place the animal feces that the pooper scooper pick up. Others have wheelbarrows to do the same. Regardless of their mode of transportation though, I think it interesting that many times the pooper scoope...

Giving Myself a Pep Talk

Rah rah! Shish boom ba! Go me! Go!

I am not much of a rah rah guy. And I rarely give myself pep talks. In fact, if you read the post that gave me this idea (last week), you might have wondered where the pep talk was in all those words. It all seemed so doom and gloom. “Woe is me. Nobody reads my stuff.” I suppose I must explain. That is how I give myself pep talks. Really.

I know. Pep talks are supposed to be: Rah rah! You can do it! Go! Go! Woo hoo! But that is just not me. O...

Thoughts about Writing [1]

I am thinking out loud here as I have some thoughts about writing. (I wonder if they are at all coherent.)

I have been so focused on other projects lately that I nearly forgot my blog post for the week. Not really. I think about it quite a bit.

“I will get to it tomorrow.”

“I think I already have a post ready.”

“I wonder if anybody would really care if I missed a week.”

“I suppose I should get something written.”

“I wonder if anybody actually read it.”

Oh I have other thoughts too.

I sometim...

Summer Is Almost Here

It is August and I keep thinking that summer is almost here.

I am not going to blame it all on global climate change, but there is something strange about the weather this year. Actually, there is lots strange about this year in general, and the weather is probably the least of our worries. Depending on how much you think it really is global climate change that has made our summer seem like a mild spring so far. At least in the Pacific Northwest.

I do not like to place blame. It does not do...

No POST

My computer broke a while back. It would not POST.

For those of you not in the know. POST is an acronym that stands for Power On Self Test. (I had to look it up too.) It is that beep you hear when you first turn on your PC. (I am not sure if it is that sound you hear when you first turn on your Mac though.) Anyway. (If I put in any more parenthetic thoughts, this could get long and difficult to read.) As I was saying before I interrupted myself. My computer would not POST not long ago....

One Sentence Paragraphs

I have decided that one sentence paragraphs are part of my style.

I do not know when I started doing it, but I noticed that I do it a lot. Maybe even most of the time. I tend to start a piece of writing with a one sentence paragraph. (I had actually written that I start a piece of writing with one sentence. Of course. Just like I start a sentence with a single word. Sheesh.) I do not know how this one-sentence-paragraph thing got started, but it seems to have become my norm. Part of my ...

Better Places Than This

“Oh yeah!? Well, I’ve been kicked out of better places than this before!”

If you have never been kicked out of any place, you need to remember this line for when you do. Because in this day and age, it will surely happen. You will surely get kicked out of someplace.

I was not going to write anything else about life in the COVID-19 era. Social distancing and quarantine and more social distancing are all we seem to hear about these days. But as people start to get out more, we realize that t...

My Independence Day Wish

I know that wishes are usually saved for Christmas, but this Independence Day, I have one wish. I wish that we can be independent of hatred.

Independence Day means lots of things to lots of people. This year, it would be nice to be out of quarantine and independent of confinement. But that is not our greatest need. Our greatest need is to be independent of hatred and injustice.

People think that racism stems from ignorance or fear or stereotypes or biases run amok. But in reality, racism r...

Ode to a Super Woman

A poem to my mom. A real super woman.

You said you were a super woman

But we knew that all along

So I had to write about it

In a poem or a song

You wiped our noses and dried our eyes

When we cried about anything

You helped us to find our voices

You helped us to find our wings

You taught us about life

You taught us about God

You showed us the love of Jesus

The one and only Son of God

You showed us how to be parents

You showed us how to let things go

You showed us that the best in life...
