Why Do You Believe What You Believe?

Be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in you.

Have you ever met somebody who does not know why they believe something, but still fervently believes it? Or maybe you are that somebody who knows what you believe, but not why you believe it. Well, if that belief is in God, Jesus, and the Bible, you might want to figure out why you believe what you believe. You might want to add reason to or increase reason for your belief and faith because using your mind will certainly make your...

Of Course, It’s an Ad

I decided that I need to rant a little about ads.

We live in a world where ads are ubiquitous. They are everywhere. On t-shirts. On billboards. On bumperstickers. And of course, on websites. Everything and everybody is seemingly an ad for some product or service. But that is not what I want to rant about.

What I really want to rant about is having to tell people the obvious. That if I have ads on my websites and people click through, I will receive compensation for those click-throughs. I...

Thanks, I Will

How do you make fun of a person for saying thanks? “Easily, thank you very much.”

(If you are wondering where the next apologetics piece is, do not worry, it is coming. I just could not pass up the opportunity to say thanks on Thanksgiving. Besides, the opportunity to make fun of myself was too good to pass up.)

So where was I? Oh yes. “Thanks, I will.” That is my response when people tell me to have a great or a good or even a mediocre day. Either that or “Thanks, you too.” I guess it...

Not Much of an Apologist

I am not much of an apologist, but I have written a few pieces. Actually, those few pieces started out as scripts for my YouTube channel, but I can either talk or write, but I cannot talk directly from a script. So I decided to put some apologetics on my website.

But what is an apologist?

Apologists are not people concerned with apologizing all the time. Especially, for their faith. Apologists are people who use reason to defend their faith. At least that is what Christian apologists do....

Distracted Discourse

Distracted discourse can be dangerous to your relationships.

Being distracted can be dangerous to your health. When you are driving or working about heavy equipment, you must always be vigilant. You must always be aware of your surroundings or things could go seriously awry. Being distracted in those situations can truly be dangerous to your health.

We can see this danger most often with distracted drivers. Those are the people who come into your lane because they are looking down at their phones. Even th...

Without a Rhyme or Reason

Here today, gone tomorrow, without a rhyme or reason.

A friend sent that sentiment to me the other day. He wondered if the rhyme was a reason and whether rhyme was really a word. Or something like that. Actually, he just commented on rhyme being a strange word after he wondered if the rhyme was a reason for something being here today and gone tomorrow. Like I said, something like that.

Well not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I thought that maybe I could turn his thoughts into a po...

Someone to Be There [1]

Praying Hands
by Albrecht Dürer
This work is in
the public domain.

When we face times of grief and despair
We just need to know that somebody’s there
Somebody to cry with, somebody to hug
Somebody to sit with us there on the rug
Somebody to listen, somebody to hear
Somebody who offers just to be near
Somebody at sundown, somebody at dawn
Somebody to offer a shoulder to cry on
Somebody who might not say one single word
Espec...

Inspiration Is Overrated [1]

Inspiration is fickle and unpredictable and overrated.

I remember many years ago when I thought that I needed to be inspired to write. Whether I was writing poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction, I felt that I needed to be inspired. Now I realize that feeling the need for inspiration is just be an excuse for not writing.

I have come to these conclusions about inspiration after many years of writing just to write. Oh sure, I have a body of work that I am proud of. Mostly. But if I was going to be...

A Magic Penny

There is something besides a sincere compliment that we can give away each day. Love.

I remember singing the song Magic Penny when I was a kid. Or maybe I just remember hearing the young kids sing it in Sunday school when I was a teenager. At any rate, that song is still true today. Love is something if you give it away.

If you have never heard the song (and since it is stuck in my he...
