Do Not Rest on Your Laurels
When you make it big, when you’ve got influence and power
Do not rest on your laurels in your ivory tower
Do not think, “I have made it!” as you sit in your splendor
Keep the thoughts in your heart innocent and tender
And remember the good that you said you would do
The rights you would wrong and the charities tooNow I’ve heard it said that people change with great power
That they think less of others and their outlook becomes dour
But I think that power just shows who you ar...

What a Pandemic Taught Me about School
Oh what a season the pandemic has brought!
School life has not turned out like any had thought.
No dances, no prom, no big get-togethers,
No fancy parades, no hats with big feathers.
Out with tradition, but there was still graduation.
We still send out the grads with much adoration.
Yes, school life was changed. What is remote learning?
Can you believe, that for the classroom we’re yearning?
Even though we still love our sisters and brothers,
We can’t spend each minute with our fathe...

A Strong Gag Reflex
A friend of mine recently posted on Facebook, “Good thing I have a strong ‘gag’ reflex on this one.”
I recently wrote about running gags that I use in my blog. I should have known that my friend and faithful reader, Marc, would post something appropriate on my Facebook page. He actually told me about it before I read it. Apparently, he wanted me to laugh twice at the same joke. And I did. In fact, I smile when I think of some of the comments he has made over the years.
(I could probably wr...

AFK LOL
I am not AFK at the moment. After all, how can you be Away From the Keyboard if you are typing? LOL.
I am not much of a meme guy. In fact, I often need to be reminded what a meme is. And for those of you who would like a decent definition of MEME, you can just look it up on the internet and see that it is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation. Memes are like genes. Kinda sorta. The more a meme hits home with people, the more it spreads.
It might seem like memes a...

BTW [1]
Have you ever noticed that you start using words or phrases that your friends use? Me neither. But I know others do.
(If you thought that I was going to do a blog post about LOL, BTW, AFK, and the like, you were probably surprised by the first line. After all, it might be a fairly entertaining blog post. But it would surely be abbreviated. So maybe I will save it for another time.)
I thought about phrases I have picked up on over the years when I posted my blog one morning. Actually, I wa...

Wrong Way, Feldman
I want to walk (or run) the wrong way down a one-way aisle.
There are direction arrows just about everywhere you go now. They tell you which way you are supposed to go through the supermarket. They tell you which way to go through the department store. They tell you which way to go down the hall of your school. And of course, they tell you to make sure you are six feet apart from everybody else.
I see these one way and social distancing signs every day at our school. (They have actually di...

Are You Following Me?
Supposedly, you can turn social media friends and followers into blog or vlog followers. I wish I knew how.
When I read the title of this blog post, I think of some paranoid person on the street furtively looking over his or her shoulder to see if that person in the trench coat is still there. Following at a distance. Following with a menacing look. Or I think of a person turning to face purported follower to ask, “Are you following me?” Either of those might be blog posts that others woul...

Running Gags
I may or may not have written about running gags before, but I am going to write about some of mine now.
If you read my blog post about thinking it strange that people read my writing, you came across the following parenthetical paragraph:
(By the way, if you have not been reading my blog for very long, you might not recognize the running gag. I have talked about real and imaginary readers since almost the beginning of my blog. So when I mention readers, I keep the running gag going. I suppo...

No More Crocodile Tears
He no longer weeps those crocodile tears
The insincere sorrow that he showed through the years
He felt compassion as his empathy grew
Though he walked not a mile in his neighbors’ shoes. It used to be that deep compassion he feigned
When he saw the homeless sleeping out in the rain
Yes he could shed crocodile tears on demand
For the plight of another he did not understand. But then it did happen, he had a change of heart
Although some just thought that he was playing a part
Someone had g...
