Today, England! Tomorrow, THE WORLD!

So, my internet, I have long promised you details of my Tour Through England. Well, next week is going to be a most excellent week.

This Sunday I will be meeting up with the lovely Scott Westerfeld and the lovelier Justine Larbalestier (sorry for impugning your loveliness there, Scott) and we will all travel about the land doing school visits and dinners with bloggers and being filmed and ALSO, doing events open to the public!

The Event That Is All Me - And Robert Downey Junior. On Film.

On Tue...

Hello Internet!

So my tour is concluded, and I am home!

Thus far most people seem to like Demon's Covenant, and the tour went off very well despite my amazing disaster-attracting abilities.

No, really. Picture this: Holly Black and I stop for a swift sandwich at a Greek restaurant. I touch - MERELY TOUCH - a Coke machine.

COKE MACHINE: *explodes into a fountain of water*
HOLLY: What did you do?!
RESTAURANT OWNERS: What did she do?!
SARAH: Merely touched it! Merely touched it!
FOUNTAIN: gushes on
SARAH: I am so sorry...

Demon's Covenant Officially Out Now!

Hooray hooray Demon's Covenant is out today!

And it is the time of year that I blither in other places, and then ask you to go look there! I have an interview up with songs and talking about brothers, a q&a with the Caster Girls and a post dedicated entirely to my Mae, Ms Normal in Paranormalandia.

Now to tell you all the things I have been doing LATELY, since I have emerged from my cave of edits to do fun things. In Ireland, I did an event with Patrick Ness (author of the zillionty-award-win...

Books Books Books!

May is not all about me-me-me and my-book's-coming-out. No!

There are other books coming out in May too. Really awesome books. So awesome one wonders why they had to come out in May and make me look bad.

Here is to my deadly foes, then...

White Cat by Holly Black

CASSEL: I come from a family of criminals, but as a Not Terrible Person, I am trying to go straight.
WORLD: Magic exists!
READERS: Yes, we have read fantasy books before.
WORLD: It has been illegal ever since Prohibition, which has created ...

French Cover for The Demon's Lexicon

The French edition of The Demon's Lexicon comes out in September, and I hope that France will like it! I got the opportunity to talk to my French editor at the Bologna book fair, and she was most excellent and lovely: we discussed the cover.

Now, that is always a tricky business - an author's involvement with covers ranges from 'saw it on amazon' to 'has sent many many emails and has had some of them paid attention to oh my gosh yay.' Nobody will ever know how the noble cover artist at Simon ...

The Very Last Cookie(s)

So, I did think that with the release of the second book I would be somewhat less crazy than I was with the release of the first.

That was completely untrue. I am so nervous! I have also taken to clinging to my blog like a security blanket.

SARAH: I must make another book recommendations post!
DURHAM LASS: Don't you have packages to send out?
SARAH: ... MAYBE. I haven't made a post about my FAMILY in a while. People may want an update!
DURHAM LASS: Sweet as it is for you to want to blacken your r...

Genre Is the Best! (speaking totally objectively)

So, this all starts with someone being awesome on the internet. Nora Roberts, to be precise. I saw her talking on romance review websites, and very much admired how she was always dignified and expressed opinions I agreed with calmly and clearly. (One day I will always be a poised classy lady on the internet. Right now it's more of a monkey at a teaparty.) Now, I'd tried a few Nora Roberts books, and wasn't sure about them, but given Nora Roberts's intense coolness, I was pretty sure it was j...

The Time Has Come to Talk of Many Things: Genre, The Internet & Stories

Okay, so I keep meaning to do a post on genre. But this is not that post, though it is related.

So, Diana Gabaldon has said she really hates fanfiction. Diana Gabaldon is the author of two serieses of books which I have read, one series about a time-travelling lady called Claire who meets a handsome Scotsman and has excellent adventures she gets through via her medical expertise and true love, and one series about an English gentleman soldier called Lord John who keeps stumbling into mysteries...

Mysterious Allure Is Mysterious To Me

So, [info:] karenhealey and I are editing our books. This obviously requires a large amount of chattering on the internet. About important literary things, and also pie.

[info:] karenhealey : (The names of the couple I think are true love in the Demon's Lexicon series) get each other on about fifty billion different levels of "each other"
[info:] sarahtales : that is why they are the OTP. ;)
[info:] sarahtales : Mark and Ellie (the hero and heroine of Guardian of the Dead) get each other
and in fact fall in love via the process ...

Praise for Demon's Covenant! Praise, delicious praise.

So Demon's Lexicon is out in paperback, and Demon's Covenant is coming out in three weeks. I am all over nerves!

But of course, there have to be gatekeepers of fiction. People who read advance copies, through being authors or reviewers or my awesome competition winners or book bloggers or... people who find advance copies lying handily in the street.

And I thought you guys might like to prepare yourselves for what to expect as follows. So, one author (two co-authors actually, because I am a che...
