Dull Boy by Sarah Cross

So a month or so ago, someone asked me when I was doing my monthly book giveaway. 'Uh,' I said, with my usual quick wit. 'I don't think I... do I do that?'

I looked back, and saw that I do it pretty often. And it struck me as a nice sort of idea, for this year anyway. Aside from in June, when I will clearly be much too insane to use the post office, but I have a plan to make up for that in July.

So to kick off my May giveaway of Dull Boy by Sarah Cross, I have to explain something about superhero

I Wish I Could Say the Countdown Has Eaten My Brain...

But the truth is, I've always been like this.

This weekend we were hosting the leaving party for Chiara, co-inhabitant of the Cherry Bomb and my best friend since we were eight: as I understand it, she has been appointed Queen of Slovenia and thus has to go administer her new land.

Happily for my sanity the Durham Lass is moving into the Cherry Bomb and so I will not be left totally desolate, but still, let that be a lesson to us all not to follow brilliant bilingual green-eyed girls home from th

May Cookie

This is quite a big week for me, you guys. I made a momentous decision yesterday.

Now Theophania the Dell and I, we had a good run. You know how it is - we met when I was in college, it was all very comfortable, we moved around a lot together, and it came to a natural end.

Then came Hamnet the Toshiba. I can admit it now: from the start, we had a lot of problems. He wasn't what you'd call reliable. All my friends hated him.

FRIENDS: Dump the loser. He lies to you. Go mac!
SARAH: No, he can change! I

The Dark Retributinator

I went home yesterday for my brother Saul's birthday. I was checked at the door to make sure I'd brought sweets from the Cherry Bomb bakery, but since my heart was pure and my hands were full of chocolate-dipped gingerbread men, they let me in.

Once in, we all ate Mama's famous and traditional call to the Chinese takeaway, Rory showed me his latest Poker Champion youtube video (Someone used the words 'Irish James Bond.' It wasn't me. That's all I'm saying) and then it was time for presents.

Saul,

Yes Virginia, You Can Have a Review

First things first: I was delighted to get some awesome pictures from Tokyo.

Firstly, how amazing does Tokyo look? I really want to go. Plus, interior art! And a list of chracters I am so hoping someone will tell me about! Japanese people apparently cover their books with paper, which is a) interesting and b) makes me feel as if my book must be Very Racy Indeed. ;)

Secondly, how awesome are you guys? I feel like I am doing a little international tour with my book via the internet, seeing it in al

A Graphic Post

Since I have recently been grumbling about telling stories with pictures, I thought I would... tell some stories with pictures in them! People were so kind as to ask how my signing in London went.

Photobucket

SARAH: Oh my goodness, is that my book? Is it real? Can I touch it?
S&S LADY (one moment after picture was taken): Are you here to steal - oh, it's Sarah.
SARAH: ... I may be here to steal.

Photobucket

I was sure nobody would show up to my signing, but then there was a queue! And a little poster of the book - and lo

London, baby!

So I am in London for the London Book Fair, and my most fabulous agent Kristin Nelson suggested I come early so we could have a Quintessentially British Day Out. 'Sounds like fun,' I said, and came early.

I arrived at my hotel behind a young couple holding hands. The lady at the desk gave them a bright look.

HOTEL LADY: I am so sorry, you cannot be permitted to stay here. The hotel is broken.
COUPLE: Uh...
SARAH: !!
HOTEL LADY: We'll call a taxi to take you to a different hotel.
SARAH: Um, I also hav

You are all getting copies of Damsel! Please email me at sarahreesbrennan@gmail.com to collect your fabulous prize.

Also happy Easter to everyone else! I know you like movie parodies, so I wrote you one. This parody requires a slight preliminary explanation, however.

Shockingly enough, it was a grey and rainy day in Dublin when it happened. Chiara, Jennet Wilde and I were not our usual chipper girlish selves, as we had been up late at a house

Pictures, and Free Books

There has never been a proverb I agree with less than 'A picture is worth a thousand words.'

I'm sure it's true for some people. It's just not true for me. I mean, I love some pictures: my recent flailing and dancing about my covers may have tipped some people off about that. I have a favourite artist. (Monet.) But words just mean a lot more to me. I glance at pictures. I dwell on words. If I see something really beautiful, my first reaction is to think about how I'd describe it if I was writing
