Ladies, You Are Awesome (Just Admit It, Quit Fronting)
I know it has been a while since I started waggling my arms around yelling 'Ladies in books! Let us SPEAK of them!' but today that time has rolled around again.
I am afraid I am also going to have to talk about my own book a lot, with spoilers! Which is not to say that I think I am the One True Feminist Icon for this age (sadly, far from it) or that my book is without any of the unconscious weird things that end up in everyone's books. But, I can speak for my own feelings in a way I cannot spe...

Cover Copy for The Demon's Covenant
Here is the UK cover copy for The Demon's Covenant, which I think I have put up in comments before but which I thought people might like to see!
Mae's life has spun out of control.
She's just learned that her brother Jamie is a magician and Nick, the boy she'd set her heart on, has an even darker secret.
Jamie has been meeting with the new leader of the Obsidian Circle, who is hell-bent on persuading
Jamie to join the magicians. When Mae calls on Nick and Alan to save her brother, the Circle s...

Well Played, 2010, Well Played
So when 2010 was rung in, my feeling was that this year would just have to be better than the last. It rang in very well, with a hairless cat in a tuxedo jacket and being a Cybills nominee!
Well 2010 I must commend you, you are holding up well thus far. In fact you are like a twinkly-eyed Santa Claus in January.
SANTA 2010: Ho ho ho, Sarah, have you been a good girl?
SARAH: Fair to middling.
SANTA 2010: Good enough! Let me see what I have for a fair to middling young lady...

The Best Couples in Books Ever!
I have loved many a fictional romance. Sometimes I love them because of how well they are done, sometimes I love them because I love one of the characters and like or can tolerate the other one.
Sometimes I love both the characters, and the way they get together.
I have chosen books in which the story's finished and the characters do get together: there are some couples I love but have not mentioned as they are NOT YET TOGETHER in ongoing serieseses...es (Kate and Curran in Ilona Andrews's Mag...

The First Cookie of the New Year
It is the tenth of January, my friends, and you know what the tenth means - a cookie! Since I am being driven down to Boston by the beautiful and terrible Holly Black in the morning, and thus we may end up joining a circus and getting eaten by tigers, I put up this cookie in the stilly hours of the night. (I hear internet reception inside tigers, not so good.)
As you all know, I pay careful attention to the wishes of my wise and lovely blog readers at all times! And people seemed to feel that...

The End of 2009!
'The end of 2009 already happened' you may justifiably and accusingly say unto me. True!
But the end of 2009 was exceedingly busy, so I only have the chance to tell you about it now.
Not busy in a GLAMOROUS way, let me hasten to assure you. Being glamorous is not really my style. I have just had piles of stuff to do! Also there was the Christmas Day Disaster.
So I awoke on Christmas Day alone in the Cherry Bomb, as my housemates Jennet Wilde the DJ and the Durham Lass the Dead Bodies and Old Stu...

2009 Television I Watched!
So as the year draws to a close, I thought I might talk about the television I have watched during it, and hear about other people's television. I have noticed that my year's viewing has a common theme - one of my favourite themes. Sensible Girls, and the Romantic Boys Who Love Them.
One thing I watched was the second season of Merlin. I have written up my thoughts on season one Merlin here.
MERLIN SEASON TWO

A Very Adventurous Christmas to You All!
I would be remiss in my author-ly duties if I did not point out to you that I was asked to do a Christmas post on some of my favourite things in one of my favourite book blogs, and that post is here.
I show myself to be a person of pretty low moral character, willing to commit murder for Megan Whalen Turner and everything.
I also talk about some of my favourite books of the past year and some in the year to come, and discuss the issue of reading books by people you know, which is something tha...

Great Joy! Pink Gorgeousness!
You will have to excuse me, you guys. It feels weird and awesome to have a cover for The Demon's Covenant to show you all. The new book, my brain is rejoicing. I get to have more than one! (My brain can be a little slow.)
Anyway, so: this is the UK cover for The Demon's Covenant. And I love eeet.
My publishers are so good, y'all. Because they are very kind to me, and because my UK covers are drawn and not photographic, I kept emailing them and saying 'Oh, could we have - could we change - coul...

Christmas Present!
So I worry about presents.
I used to worry about presents so much that I had to get them out of the way early. In the July sales, you would see little Sarah with her bowl haircut, solemnly shopping for Christmas presents. Had I waited for winter, I would have gone into a spiral of agony and self-doubt.
Much taller Sarah with much longer hair, i.e. me of the present day, does not have the organisational skills or the storage space to shop for Christmas presents in July. But I do generally spend...
