Careening Around the Cotswolds: A Writer's Tale

So ladies and gentlemen of the audience, it so happens that I organised a trip to the Cotswolds. Not for my own idle pleasure, of course! In order to research! Just a nice, peaceful research trip, accompanied only by my trusty notebook with its pink plastic flower bookmark, into the nice, peaceful countryside. What could go wrong?

Habitual readers of this blog will not be surprised to hear: ALMOST EVERYTHING.

That, of course, is a lie. My flight was completely uneventful. Then I was on some tra...

... Wednesday... Links

I realise I usually do my links posts on Friday, but I realised I had quite a few links to post, so today works instead!

An interview with Travis Pearson, in which I distribute spoilers like candy, talk a little about writing Sin's point of view, and my Ill-Fated Archery Research

I didn't actually write this one, but Kelley Armstrong answers a ton of questions about our Smart Chicks tour here.

Speaking of the Smart Chicks tour, I am also on the Smart Chicks blog, holding a Smart Chicks Fiesta - ...

Adventures in Floridia (Or, Sarah Loves Books Some More, Again)

Ah, Florida. Land of glorious sunshine.

It's kind of cruel that I was born and bred in Ireland, Land of 363 Days of Rain, when I love sunshine so much.

It may also have been kind of cruel of me to woo my roommates Karen Healey and R.J. Anderson out into the glorious light of day when they find the endless beautiful golden sunshine oppressive (I don't understand this - are they vampires in their souls?) but I feel no shame. I bribed R.J. Anderson with the third book of the Demon's Lexicon tril...

Off to Florida, Hold the Fort! Also: Demons in the Holy Land!

Currently I am packing to go to Florida, about which I have already blogged!

My methods of packing: race about the house in a wildly disorganised fashion, with a set of heels in one hand and my passport in the other. On more than one occasion, have tipped a drawer into a bag and announced, 'I'll see what I'm wearing when I get there!'

Anyway! Nervous about Florida, but hopeful that there will be people there who will wish to talk to me about my books. And books in general! (But especially mine,...

Friday Links!

It is time for one of those posts that are full of links, to show what I have been doing in my dangerous forays around the internet!

As part of the Smart Chicks tour, we're doing a blog, and here is my first post there: How I Stopped Worrying And Learned To Love the Undead.

I have also been kindly hosted for a guest post on the Goblin Market.

I have a story in a new anthology, Kiss Me Deadly, coming out in late July/early August, and we just saw our first blog review for it.

We also have a Kiss M...

The US thought it was free of me for the summer...

But that is not to be!

I am going to be a guest at Infinitus 2010, a gigantic Harry Potter convention being held in Orlando, Florida from July 15-18. I'll be on a panel for Friday's Keynote Luncheon with Naomi Novik, RJ Anderson, Ali Wilgus and Karen Healey, discussing Becoming a Professional Writer Lady.

And my scheduling looks somewhat like this.

FRIDAY Noon - Our Fancy Luncheon, in the Pacifica 6 Room, where everyone else will talk intelligently and I will blither about my Life Experiences. ...

Caught In A Transformative Romance

So I was grumbling to people, as I do, about books. And at one point I was saying 'Oh, how can someone want Character A and Character B to get together?' And I was answered: 'Well, they're attractive, and get on well...' To which I: 'But surely that's not enough?'

Obviously it is enough in real life, at least initially. But just as I demand little more from life than a comfy chair and a delicious drink and an excellent book, I would not be thrilled by a book about someone in a comfy chair with...

Werewolves and Zombies and Vampire Addicts, Oh My

Recently, I realised that I am a vampire addict. But that was a deeply shameful moment, and as such requires its own blog post.

Right now, I wanted to blog about two books about Supernatural Creatures I am not addicted to, but keep sort of gently swaying away from and then back to. To wit: zombies and werewolves. I want to love them. I always want to find my ideal zombie or werewolf book.

And I have found many excellent ones! Carrie Ryan's dystopic zombie series starting with The Forest of...

Covenanting in the United Kingdom

The sad fact of the matter is this: you never meet the vast majority of your fans. For reasons of geography, among others!

This means that getting to meet the fans you do meet is very exciting. I always feel like I must talk very fast and give them all the information they could possibly wish about my books! I also feel that I should share the experience of what authoring involves which is not writing, but going out and meeting people.

Being a writer is very strange in that way, as it does mean...

DEMONS I HAVE CONSIDERED STEALING

Internet, now that I am done rewriting Demon's Lexicon 3, I owe you blogging! And I have many ideas for posts I wish to write, but during my UK tour, otherwise known as 'Rediscovering Six AM With Scott Westerfeld (It Sucks, But He's Pretty Nice)', alas I have no time. However the lovely Saundra Mitchell asked me if she could do a guest blog to promote the paperback release of her most excellent book Shadowed Summer (summary: a practical lady, a family secret, a boy being used for his ouija...
