mysteries of cross-posting

Crossposted at www.sarahreesbrennan.com/blog

I am investigating the mysteries of cross-posting: pray ignore this blog post.

Or use it to command me to DO YOUR WILL. \'more parodies.\' \'more online short stories.\' \'more interpretative dance.\'

I am off to New York tomorrow: when I return I will SEE your COMMANDS.

This Is the Maddest Merriest Day Of All the Glad New Year

So it is my birthday - another step towards fabulous old-lady sleuthdom! Last year I spent my birthday with my best friend in Japan, this year I spend it in New England Chez Black. I have good luck with birthdays.

The Smart Chicks tour was lots of fun, and to everyone who came: thank you! I now miss the other Smart Chicks authors, though. So many stories! So many excellent people! I do feel this picture sums up my behaviour on the tour however.

Caroline: Cocky much? Damon: Very much. Or, Sarah and the Vampire Diaries, A Love Story

So when I was sixteen, I was crazy in love with these books about vampires.

I feel pretty ahead of my time with this experience! (Or thinking of Anne Rice, maybe not.)

The books in question were by L.J. Smith. (My favourites are Daughters of Darkness and Dark Visions.)

So when it was announced that they were making a TV show from L.J. Smith's The Vampire Diaries, obviously I said 'I am there, there will bells on, sign me and the bells up.'

When I was at Comic Con, they had a special showing of t...

Title, Title, Who's Got A Title?

Me! I do!

You see, the third book in the Demon's Lexicon trilogy used to have a title, but then my editor (The Wise and Lovely Karen) said 'Well, but after my wise and lovely edits, the title no longer fits.'

'That's true,' I said, and wrote out a list of titles.

'Hmmm...' said TW&LK. 'Let me think about it.'

The time went on. I transitioned from casual, dignified inquired to piteous scritching at My Lovely Editor's door. 'Can I be titled yet?' I implored.

And as time passed, it emerged I had a cl...

Mystery! Murder! (Get Your Mystery and Murder Here...)

I love mysteries. I love twist endings (as long as they're well set up). I love twisty plots, the more complicated the better. And I love people solving crime.

So crime novels, they appeal to me! But not ones with lovingly described murders of women that go on and on until you're like 'Uh - am I meant to be enjoying this?' I feel you have to be careful, with crime novels! But there are some I love.

The Lord Peter Wimsey novels by Dorothy L. Sayers

I discovered, six years ago and to my horror whi...

A Picture, Worth Quite A Few Words Indeed

I am always excited to show a new cover! And in this case I was extra excited, because oooh, iconic. (I like people covers too, but iconic covers are more unusual for me!) And it is always fun to think about the different markets in different countries for the same book.

Demon's Lexicon will be published in the Ukraine by Bohdan publishing house in late September/early October.

I hope you like the cover in all its flamey demonic iconic glory! No...

Being A Writer On the Internet (Complicated! Augh, So Complicated!)

Thanks to y'all for the very thoughtful response to yesterday's post! It got mentioned on the Publisher's Weekly blog, so I am currently feeling famous.

However, I am now going to witter at you again, because some of the response in my comments and elsewhere made me think I was unclear. Or possibly, I just wrote A LOT and people began to skim. (This is understandable. I often write excessively long things. My editor weeps with you!)

So, a couple of things I wish to clarify.

1. Many other people ...

Being A Writer And A Reader On the Internet

So, I love reading books. This is probably not going to come as a huge shock to anyone. I also love writing books. Again... not breaking news...

Recently on the internet, I saw someone being skeptical about my online book reviews (I also write non-online book reviews, but that is neither here nor there, as this post is about the internet!), because they were always positive. Said person, obviously not a fan of mine, so probably does not read this journal! However, if there are fans of mine who...

What You Up To, Rees Brennan?

Well, currently I am doing my final edits on Demon's Lexicon 3, otherwise known as The Demon's Desperate Quest For A Title. This round of edits is fairly light (Demon's Covenant got two very very in-depth rounds of edits, but I ascribe that to Ally Carter's great truth, The Second Book Always Kills You) but it is a little strange to be writing the end of the story for these characters. I've never written any characters for so much time, and never loved any so much: I hope everyone will think ...
