Exploring “The Ick” With Your Partner – Helpful or Hurtful?

definition of the ick blogilates

Ah, yet another TikTok ‘trend’ is floating around. There’s so many, who can keep up? This one’s about telling your partner why they give you “the ick.”

“The ick” — a term that originated in the 90’s TV show “Ally McBeal” — is when someone does something that annoys you, makes you feel uncomfortable, or turns you off.

Social media personalities have been posting videos with their significant others (sometimes using funny voices, which is another trend) to share what makes their so-called beloved “icky.” Here’s an example of a couple sharing what annoys them about each other.

At first, it seems humorous, but is critiquing your partner on social media a good idea? How can it affect your relationship? Relationship therapists and experts weigh in.

Keep it in the sheets

“I think this trend is toxic, unhealthy, humiliating and will cause a lot of resentment within the relationship,” says relationship expert and podcast host Melanie Verstraete. “You’re ‘airing your dirty laundry’ so to speak, for the whole world to see.”

This is personal between the couple in the relationship and should stay that way, she adds. “This may start off as funny or entertaining, like a joke, but can lead to long term grudges, resentment, and feelings of betrayal.”

Plus, it’s humiliating. “Being in a romantic relationship is a very intimate and raw space where you are opening yourself up to that other person to a part of you that most will never know,” says Verstraete. “It’s vulnerable. A person could feel very exposed and embarrassed by displaying these ‘icks’ for the entire world to see.”

Jaime Bronstein, Licensed Relationship Therapist, and author, says authenticity is important in any relationship, “so trends like these can cause insecurity in a relationship as people might start to walk on eggshells and feel they can’t be their authentic selves if they are worried that they are causing the ‘ick.’ No one wants their significant other to be repulsed by them.”

the ick trend tiktok airing dirty laundry quote melanie verstraeteNot for the sensitive

Certified life coach and relationship expert Maya Tyler says love languages play a crucial role in situations like this.

“My love language is to hear words of affirmation,” she explains. “In turn, that means the way to HURT me the most is through words of condemnation. Judgmental words like an “ick list” would hurt people like me, especially coming from a significant other who’s had time to make a list that picks at my weaknesses and blind spots created from hard-fought trust and vulnerability.”

Overall? “It’s a no for me.”

How to ‘get over it’

If you and your partner decide to do this exercise (privately, we hope!) or get into a deep conversation about each other’s pet peeves, Tyler advises picking and choosing your battles.

“Healthy relationships are about the work of building a team, not easy demolition. Ask yourself:  Is this a nit-pick or a deal breaker? Is this a discussion in which I’ve prepared a sensitive but clear and fair argument they will be receptive to, or is this a random peeve that I’m using to build a case for my conditional loss/lack of interest?”

If you’re upset, for example, that your partner says it’s annoying when you’re hangry, it’s OK to take the comment personally. In fact, “I hate when people use the phrase ‘don’t take it personally,” says Tyler. “Sharing what you hate about someone, is, by definition, a personal attack! Of course, they will be hurt! Especially if the delivery is not carefully crafted with that person’s feelings in mind.”

What you can realistically do as the recipient is to prepare yourself, advises Tyler. “Try not to be defensive, even though you may be offended. Decide if you’re interested in what you might be like as a person without these ‘ick’ traits, and if so, try to be open-minded to change. If not, this is going to be an argument, so buckle up buttercup!”

teachable moment schitts creekThe best approach

“I think if the TikTok trend was something more endearing, like listing little things that bothered you about your significant other but you find them cute, it could be less detrimental to a relationship,” says Bronstein. “I believe that sharing how you feel in a constructive manner and not using the word ‘ick’ could work better for couples.”

Yes, it’s healthy to address pet peeves about your partner; however, it’s essential to address them in a kind manner. “Use compassion and empathy when delivering a message about something that is bothering you about the other person. It’s always nice to start the conversation with, “I love you; however, there are some things I want to express that are bothering me…”’

Adds Bronstein: “Listen to what your partner has to say, and if the requests seem reasonable, then you can alter your behavior to avoid your partner getting “icked” by you.”

You can calmly thank your partner for bringing the items to your attention, “and then you can feel free to express any “icks” that you have about them. Having a sense of humor in a relationship can be quite beneficial, and if a couple truly loves each other, they will see these things as minuscule in the scheme of things and can move on from them.”

Don’t be such an open book

Social media is a great way to share your life with the world, but, do you really NEED to share your life with the world? A little privacy can go a long way.

For starters, “the ‘ick’ in the show Ally McBeal was used for guys Ally didn’t want to date anymore, but these are couples on TikTok that could potentially stay together; therefore, it’s not helpful for the relationship,” summarizes Bronstein. Since the term is being used in the wrong context lately, what’s the point of posting the ick game online? Are the views worth it?

As Tyler explains, “If you’re looking for a train wreck, watch your favorite attention-seeking couple on social media spill all their marital secrets online! Social media isn’t the trophy case people think it is; it’s a glass house. It’s fragile and often broken by the people inside trying too hard to please the people outside it.”

She adds: “I can’t even count how many times ‘keeping it real’ has gone horribly wrong, on camera – and is STILL uploaded for likes and shares. If embarrassing your partner with info or secrets about your private life is your thing, good luck with that. It’s not for me!”

Creamy Dairy Free Eggnog With Almond Milk

Hey guys!

Did you know that December 24th is National Eggnog Day?! I looove eggnog, but prefer to make my own because:

1. Sometimes the bottled stuff is just too sweet
2. The kind made from dairy usually makes me bloated, which no one wants to deal with during the holidays! And dairy makes me break out!

I DID discover recently that I love Trader Joe’s O’ Nog (it’s made with oat milk!), but I also stick to my tried and true homemade dairy free eggnog recipe that I’ve been making for years – you might remember me posting this like TEN years ago (what?!).

Since this recipe is still a fave, I decided to revive it a little with fresh pics and some tips I’ve picked up while making it over the years.

Let’s make dairy free eggnog!

dairy free eggnog in a glass blogilates holiday drink christmas almond milk

The secret to creamy almond eggnog

Almond milk may not be as creamy as dairy milk, but let me tell you – this eggnog is still super creamy. The key is blending everything together for a minute or two to kind of froth it up! I’ve been using MALK Almond Milk lately, which I find froths really well. But I’ve used a lot of brands since I’ve been making them and I’ve never had issues!

After everything is blended, you’ll simmer it over the stove for about 15 minutes to cook the egg. Two things:

Make sure you STIR constantly while this is cooking. Don’t walk away!Don’t let it boil!

I’ve read on other recipes that you want the eggnog to cook to 180 degrees F, and then simmer for around 15 minutes.

After it’s been cooked, the rest of the magic happens in the fridge! Your eggnog will thicken overnight and be ready to drink the next morning. YUM.

Winter Gems: The Mockneck Sweatshirt I Knew I Needed

The POPFLEX Uptown Mockneck Sweatshirt reviewed in this article is from a Blogilates sister brand, but all opinions are honest and my own. Scout’s honor!

kennedy hill popflex uptown mockneck sweatshirt review

I am a through-and-through California girl, so every time winter comes around, I’m doing the math for how many layers of crop tops will equal a warm outfit. (The answer has yet to be found.) My initial plan this season was to be in a tropical location by the time December reared its frosty head, but since I’m still stateside, I needed a go-to sweater that met the following qualifications.

1. I’m at the point in my fashion journey where I value quality over quantity, so the item had to be durably made with comfortable materials.

2. I travel often, so I needed something versatile enough to easily slip into any version of my wardrobe.

3. To help me stick to a minimalist closet, I only buy items that I really, really want. If I can walk away from it at a store without looking back romantically, I don’t get it.

This was the mission, and the POPFLEX Uptown Mockneck Sweatshirt chose to accept it.

popflex review packaging sustainable cassey ho tag details small stunning First Impressions

I’ve had my eyes on this sweater ever since it dropped a few weeks ago. It’s athleisure but still looks more elevated than the gym. It’s a minimalist design but has subtle details that give it character. This is what I saw from the photos, but before I could judge it in person, POPFLEX packaging stole my eye. The product bags are sustainably made and biodegrade in 180 days (which we love), but the best touch was the tags.

Many brands provide eco-friendly packaging nowadays, but I’ve never seen clothing tags that replaced the usual sizes (small, medium, etc.) with compliments. S stands for stunning, and the large leggings I also ordered were L for limitless. It’s such a cute, Cassey touch that I loved experiencing.

Once I moved onto the actual sweater, the sand color was exactly what I wanted (there’s also black), and the material felt nice and thick in my hands. It was also heavier than I expected, which I took as a sign that POPFLEX splurged on some lux-level material.

kennedy hill wearing popflex uptown mockneck sweatshirt sand The Test Drive

I had a girls’ trip to Joshua Tree where the temperature drops to the 40s, so I decided our Saturday night bar crawl was the perfect opportunity to take the sweater for a spin. Typically when I get ready, I do my hair first and then get dressed. The second step in that process was when I learned the mock neck has very little stretch. I’m assuming that’s how they get the neck detail to keep its structure over time, but it made it difficult to pull the sweater over my thick, curly hair. I made it work, but I definitely made a note that I’d need to put on the sweater first to avoid any frizz.

Once it was on, the cropped length/oversized combo struck the perfect silhouette. The sweater was also much warmer than I thought it was going to be thanks to the fabric’s cozy finish. At a certain point in the night, I even got a bit sweaty while in a semi-crowded restaurant, which is when I was happy the mock neck’s slit let me air out a bit. I also tend to feel a bit suffocated in turtlenecks, so the slit gave me a similar look without making me feel too restricted.

One caveat

A caveat to the sweater’s insulation though is that the slit in the mock neck lets cool air in, so my neck and upper chest got pretty chilly while I was outside. I feel like adding a scarf would ruin the point of the neckline, so if I wanted to wear this for a long period of time in the cold, I’d have to wear a thin turtleneck underneath to get better coverage. (Note: I didn’t wear a bra or undershirt with this, so that could’ve also helped.)

Another tidbit on the mock neck (I have so many!) is that since it’s not totally structured, I felt it folding forward or shifting out of place throughout the night. I’d fix it when I caught it, but I think adding a button closure could be a nice touch for those who want to make sure it stays in place throughout the night. I didn’t have access to an iron during this trip, but ironing it with starch might also give it more support.

Things to Love

– Oversized design, including the perfectly puffed sleeves
– Neutral sand color matches everything
– Cropped length falls beautifully
– Mock neck slit prevents overheating
– Mock neck slit detail is just cute
– Fabric is thick and cozy
– Insulates heat to keep you warm

Things to Improve On

– Lack of stretch in the neckline: If you have thick hair or just did your makeup, you’ll have to carefully put the sweater on.
– Mock neck integrity: The neck will fold/shift, possibly ending up in awkward positions.
– Mock neck slit: This can’t be your only line of defense in really cold weather because of the open neck.

Final Thoughts: The Uptown Mockneck Sweatshirt

POPFLEX’s Uptown Mockneck Sweatshirt isn’t perfect, but for my needs, it understood the assignment and then some. It’s thick enough to keep me warm; the neutral color fits into any version of my wardrobe, and its streetwear aesthetic suits my understated yet elevated style. I don’t plan on going anywhere so cold that I need to layer up with this, but I’m going to keep playing with the mock neck so I can keep it exactly where I want it. Unfortunately, just yelling “stay!” isn’t cutting it.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich That Helped Me Start My First Business!

Hey guys!

Storytime!

It all started in 7th grade. I decided to make my own candy with a mixture of Halloween chocolate that I couldn’t eat (bc I’m a supertaster and chocolate tastes sooo bitter to me!). When I took this candy to school, I was just trying to repurpose the candy. But… my friends actually LIKED it!

So I made more and started selling it – 3 balls for 25 cents.

I didn’t even know WHAT a business was when I made my first sale. I just knew it was fun.

Here I am mixing Halloween chocolate together to make my own candy! Eventually, I decided to turn this little project into an official business and…

Cooplex Cookies & Candies was born!

cassey ho cooplex cookie and candy business high school entrepreneurial journey

By the time I got into high school, my menu had expanded to include cookies and my best-seller, The Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich.

People went CRAZY over theses – they were really addicting! Kinda makes sense that people called them Cassey’s Crack Cookies…and the way money and cookies used to exchange between classes makes this name feel even more appropriate.

The demand was so high that my mom even helped me make cookies every night between homework, tennis practice, and other activities. Looking back, it really bonded us together! She was a cake decorator so that’s where my baking and artistic skills come from ❤

Here is Jackelyn posing with me in a backyard photoshoot so the school yearbook could do a story on Cooplex! My mom was the photographer of course!

But eventually, the school shut my business down.

I was called into the office, got in trouble, and had to stop selling my cookies and candies. Cooplex’s time came to an end. I was so bummed, but what I didn’t realize at the time were how many valuable lessons I had learned!

Of course I couldn’t share this story with you without recreating the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich!

THE FILLING

Is there such a thing as an “entrepreneurial gene”?

As I was filming the video to retell my story, I realized something – My business ideas have always come from solving a problem. Back in the day it was because I had too much chocolate and didn’t know what to do with it. These days, it’s because I hate cameltoe and I wanted a pair of leggings that could get rid of it (and much much more).

There were some interesting businesses in between Cooplex and POPFLEX (wait just realized I really like “lex’s” -weird!) and each one helped me solve an issue I had at the time. I guess my businesses are like expressions of my life chapters.

WAIT. It’s like when T-Swift writes a song to emote her feelings, except…I start businesses. OMG. So many realizations happening!

I feel so lucky that I get to marry my passion with my career – I simply could not imagine my life any other way!

Do you wanna hear about my other random businesses one of these days?!

4 Stunning Non-Alcoholic Drink Recipes for the Holidays

*This article may contain referral links for products we love, and all opinions are our own. Blogilates.com earns a small commission from these links, at no additional cost to you.

Holiday party season has arrived and we are IN IT. If you’re hosting anytime soon, a beverage that your guests will rave over is a must.

No worries if alcohol isn’t your thing – holiday mocktails are just as beautiful and fun to sip on! And if you are serving “adult” beverages, it never hurts to offer a non-alcoholic beverage option for anyone exploring sober curiosity or not drinking alcohol for any reason.

These mocktails are stunning and tasty, without being over the top – looking at you, TikTok viral cocktail in an ornament. If you love that vibe but wonder if people really have time to host and create a drink so extra, they DO, but you don’t have to!

Serve these non-alcoholic drinks at your holiday party.

Promise the WOW-factor will still be there (and you won’t be washing or wasting ornaments).

Pomegranate Ginger Paloma

A traditional Paloma is made with tequila, grapefruit juice, lime, and sparkling water. This non-alcoholic holiday drink uses non-alcoholic tequila (I used Ritual Zero Proof), and adds an element of cheer with pomegranate juice and ginger beer in place of the sparkling water.

This bevvie is not only stunning, but I love the subtle spice that the ginger beer brings. It balances out the sweetness and literally adds a sparkle to your drink.

The espresso martini has become one of my favorite drinks, but I have to admit that until now, I’d never tried a non-alcoholic version. Typically this martini uses vodka, but I decided to replace it with Ritual Zero-Proof’s Gin Alternative. Then I added a little Torani peppermint syrup and a splash of heavy cream – this is optional, and you can totally use a dairy-free alternative.

When I tested this recipe, I learned that shaking the mixture is key to getting that luscious layer of foam at the top. Just brew your espresso over ice in a heat-safe mason jar so it’s already chilled, add your other ingredients, and shake away.

This one is warm and soothing – perfect for serving after a day spent in the snow, or around a fire. I also love sipping on this non-alcoholic drink for a…um…different kind of holiday – a sick day, spent battling a scratchy throat. A hot toddy is the perfect way to find some relief.

To remove the alcohol without sacrificing the flavor depth, I used Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey. It’s hard to explain, but this whiskey alternative is the key to adding that layer of warmth that alcohol usually brings. You’ll believe me when you try it!

Oh and please don’t be intimidated by the spiced simple syrup! It’s really easy to throw together and simmer on your stove. Bonus – it will make your house smell amazing.

Mules are one of the most refreshing drinks out there. I’ve never tolerated vodka well though – even the thought of it makes me gag. This was sad when I discovered I love espresso martinis, and equally sad as I’ve avoided mules for my entire life.

UNTIL NOW.

Because not only did I master a non-alcoholic espresso martini, but I also crafted a mule with a fall/holiday twist…without vodka.

So, a traditional mule is vodka, ginger beer, and lime with lots of ice. To make this more holiday-friendly,  I used Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey. Not only does the whiskey add a warmer flavor to this non-alcoholic drink recipe, but it adds exactly what the drink needed to take this from “why not just drink a soda” to a true cocktail alternative.

I also added apple juice! If you’re wondering if cider would work too, the answer is YES.

The Ultimate List of Travel Gifts for Your Wanderlust Bestie

*These travel gifts for women may contain referral links for products we love, and all opinions are our own. Blogilates.com earns a small commission from these links, at no additional cost to you.

blogilates gift guide travel gifts for women

We all have that friend. The friend who literally spent a quarter of a summer in Europe to study abroad… and it’s become their entire personality for the last decade.

Well, here is the gift guide just for them, to remind them of how deep their wanderlust runs… while also allowing them to subtly flex how well-traveled they are. Ha.

Sass aside, here is a great gift guide for any gal in your life who is always jet-setting (or wishing they were).

Let’s dig in!

The MVP list of travel gifts for women Daybird Tinted Moisturizer travel gifts for women 1.For the low-maintenance one

Daybird

I once read an article about how much makeup dries out your face when you’re on a plane, and ever since I just slather on the moisturizer and nothing more, no matter the state of my skin or appearance.

However, that recently changed when I discovered Daybird. It gives you that BB coverage I love, but also has skincare in it. That’s what we call a win, win. And let’s just say if they had a 6-pack of these I’d be buying it – its my favorite thing in my make-up bag right now (whether i’m travelling or not!).

Shop Daybird
popflex belladonna duffle travel gifts for women 2.For the active traveler

POPFLEX Duffle

Look no further than this duffle. It’s the perfect under-the-seat personal item that still manages to fit everything✨.

It has pockets for easy organization (love!), a compartment at the bottom for shoes (great for dirty shoes after your trip) and the best feature of all… a secret yoga mat holder in the front! Literally perfect for their next yoga retreat.

Shop on POPFLEX
monos carry-on luggage travel gifts for women 3.For the aesthetic one

Monos Carry-On

Maybe a little more pricey, but the neutral and subtle tones of this suitcase really make it a great choice for that hard-to-buy traveller on your list. You really can’t go wrong.

I love how compact it is! I’ve always been a “will this carry-on actually fit in the overhead compartment” size girl, but this one really is perfect for your shorter weekend trips. On our recent trip to Marfa, my 2-year-old claimed this one as her own, and managed to pack it full (yes there were two halloween costumes that made the cut).

Shop Monos
gravette mini boost portable charger travel gift for women 4.For the one always needing a charge

MiniBoost Charger

I am not kidding you when I say this is my new travel must-have. There is something so reassuring about having a backup charger.

Gone are the days when i’m stressfully ordering an Uber and memorizing the license plate with 2% battery. There are of course many options of these on the market, but Gravette is my go-to. Their packaging is also so elevated for that gifting moment. It’s like unboxing An apple product. It’s a great gift – if I’m on your list, I can’t have enough of these.

Shop Gravette
trouvaille color in mug travel gift 5.For the one flexing their travel history

Trouvaille Color In Mug

I love this one. It’s also so versatile with any age. Adults love it, kids love it, and it’s something they can see every day that will remind them of you.

Shop on Uncommon Goods
fernweh editions creme brulee scented soy candle travel gifts for women 6.For the one who went to France once

Crème Brûlée Scented Soy Candle

They say nothing brings you back to a place than the smell of something. Well, Fernweh Editions candles will bring your friend back to their study abroad trip to Paris, for better or worse. I love the Crème Brûlée one, but they also have a full France edition set complete with a champagne scented one and dark chocolate (yum!).

Shop Fernweh Editions
vagabond heart travel stickers gift guide 7.For the one who collects momentos

Vagabond Travel Stickers

You know those people who have stickers from like 27 different countries on their bottle as a subtle nod to how well cultured they are. Well this, this is for them! I love these because they are also great stocking stuffers.

Shop Vagabond Heart
popflex cloud hoodie heather grey travel gifts for women 8.For the one who values comfort > everything

POPFLEX Cloud Hoodie

Literally the only hoodie you need. It’s the coziest addition for any trip, and I can also unzip it and use it as a blanket for me or my little one. Also while we’re here can we just talk about how different plane temperatures are? One flight can have you sweating, the next can have you wishing you brought your winter puffer.

Shop on POPFLEX
bling sting kit travel gifts for women 9.For the one who always needs a safety pin

Bling Sting First Aid Kit

I adore Bling Sting. It’s like a gift, but also this may save your friends life one day. And this, this is literally the most glam first aid kit ever, and I always have one in my purse and I want another one for my car. Its compact yet comes with 72 items from bandages, and alcohol pads to safety pins (I always need these and never have them!). Other honorable mentions were their Bling Sting Pepper Spray and Glammer.

Like this is literally a line from their packaging:

‘We believe in being a girl. We believe in sparkles, crying at the movies… eating a good majority of that pint of ice cream (ok, the whole thing).” I mean it’s like they are speaking to me.

Shop on Amazon
chasing paper art prints this must be the place travel gifts 10.For the one who loves art

Chasing Paper Prints

When I first stumbled across Chasing Paper, I loved how simple their designs were but they still spoke to me, you know? It’s also great for gift giving because no matter the receiver’s art preference they are likely to find a place in their home for these beauties.

I fell even more in love with this small business when I realized that they made them just for me after I ordered. I opted for no frame since that was going to tack on more time. And I 10/10 recommend them for the person on your list that has chronic wanderlust.

Shop Chasing Paper
mumi packing cubes travel gifts for women 11.For the one who is Type A

Mumi Packing Cubes

I’ve always aspired to be that traveler that uses packing cubes. You know that moment of shame when your bag is 10 lbs over the limit and you have to open it in front of everyone in line?

With these Mumi travel cubes you will hear a loud gasp of admiration from the crowd as you show your organized suitcase… and take out the 10 books you’re bringing on your trip that you won’t read a single one of. Your friend will thank you, trust me.

mommy and me gift guide blogilates

If you would have asked me 3 years ago pre-child that I would have been that mom that wants to match with her daughter, I would have laughed right in your face.

…but here we are, and that preconceived notion of how I would parent got chucked right out of the window along with my vision of my child never watching TV (Peppa Pig, who?) and only eating foraged 100% organic food from our garden.

And the truth is, it’s not like me and my little one match all the time, but an opportunity for a matching gift!?!

SIGN ME UP.

I was just looking for some things that would help me achieve this new found dream of mine, and truth is it was kind of hard to find. So I decided to roll my sleeves up and do some of the leg work for any of you who may be in the same boat.

Here is my ultimate list of mommy and me gifts

Emry (my 3-year-old) is really into jewelry now, and I gave it to her on her birthday and it may be one of my top 5 favorite moments.

Looking for the Best Gifts for Foodies? Say Less.

*This gift guide for foodies may contain referral links for products we love, and all opinions are our own. Blogilates.com earns a small commission from these links, at no additional cost to you.

The holidays are here, and idk about you, but I feel like I am racing to the finish for my gift shopping. Good news – food is always a great gift, especially if you have a foodie in your life.

But maybe gifting the same “classic” food items feels a little…boring? I feel that. As a self-proclaimed foodie myself, I’ve put a lot of time and effort into finding the best foodie gifts that your friend, family, coworker, or anyone will rave about.

Be warned though, you’ll be setting the bar HIGH for years to come.

Here are my picks for the best gifts for foodies oat haus granola butter gifts for foodies blogilates gift guide 1.Granola Butter

Oat Haus

Oat Haus Granola Butter is the world’s first oat-based spread. Think peanut butter but better, AND allergen-free. Some of the GB flavor options include Cookie Dough, Birthday Cake, Brownie Batter, and Coffee. You can enjoy them all in a lot of ways but I have to be honest – I always end up eating it straight out of the jar, with a spoon. Go ahead and gift a 3-pack with some variety, because the foodie receiving this gift is going to be obsessed.

15 Winning Gifts for People Who Like to Cook

*These gifts for people who like to cook may contain referral links for products we love, and all opinions are our own. Blogilates.com earns a small commission from these links, at no additional cost to you.

gift guide for people who like to cook blogilates cast iron skillet recipe box chopper pizza oven

Welcome to the ultimate gift guide for the loved one who spends a good chunk of their time in the kitchen. The one who scrolls FoodTok endlessly searching for new recipes (or maybe has a TikTok of their own!), and the one you call when you have zero clue how you should season your salmon.

Here are 15 gifts for people who like to cook.

Happy gifting!

1. This TikTok-viral kitchen tool

fullstar veggie chopper gifts for people who like to cook Fullstar Veggie Chopper - $33

If you haven’t seen this viral kitchen tool yet, be prepared to buy two – one as a gift and one for yourself. This veggie chopper is a major time saver for meal prep, and it’s super satisfying to watch. Seriously, I’ve spent wayyy too much time watching people on TikTok use this thing.

2. The skillet they’ll reach for daily

le creuset signature skillet gifts for people who like to cook

Le Creuset Signature Skillet - From $136

All cooks have heart eyes over a brand new skillet – especially this one by Le Creuset. The Signature Skillet comes in a variety of sizes and colors, but the best part is the enameled cast iron. This finish doesn’t require seasoning like traditional cast iron, and it’s easier to clean. This is the kind of pan that gets better over time, meaning it’s something your loved one will hold onto forever.

3. The solution to keeping herbs fresh prepara herb savor pod 2.0 with asparagus

Herb Savor Pro 2.0 - $30 (set of 3)

People who like to cook know the beauty of using fresh herbs in a recipe. This only problem is, sometimes it’s hard to keep herbs fresh.

Enter the Herb Savor. This BPA-free container is designed to keep herbs fresh longer, right inside your fridge door! I’ll add my personal experience here – I’ve had some rosemary in mine for over 2 weeks now, and she’s still super fresh. This is coming from someone who can’t keep a basil plant alive no matter what I do, so I’d call this a win.

4. A place to keep their recipes

Papier recipe journal gifts for people who love to cook

Papier Le Moderne Recipe Journal -$40

A recipe book might seem a little old school, but that’s kind of what I love about it. It’s overwhelming to have recipes saved on Instagram, in our screenshots, and on Pinterest boards that date back to 2012. By the time I remember where I saved that sheet pan meal recipe, my motivation to actually make it is long gone.

This makes a great gift for people who like to cook because it’s a place where they can keep their favorite recipes in one place. The recipes from their favorite food blogs and the ones they came up with on their own can all live here. Over the years, this recipe journal will become a keepsake.

If your foodie prefers recipe cards (bonus, easier to share recipes with you!), go for a cute recipe tin like this one.

5. An at-home masterclass

food la la french macaron masterclass gifts for people who love to cook blogilates

FOOD LA LA Macaron Baking Kit & Masterclass - $97

Everything about this gift is aesthetic, from the packaging to the end result: beautiful French macarons. This kit comes with everything you need to master the art of this stunning dessert, minus a few fresh ingredients you likely have in your kitchen anyways.

You can follow along with written instructions to make your macarons, or opt for the master class that you can access online. It even comes with edible paint and glitter, sprinkles, and beautiful gift boxes.

FOOD LA LA also has a Cooking Club with monthly recipes and a live masterclass (December’s class is tamales -YUM). Learn more about the Cooking Club here!

6. Pretty (and practical) food storage

porter seal tight bowls 16 oz

Porter Seal Tight Bowls, set of 2 - $45

There’s just something so satisfying about clean, matching food storage sets. These 16 oz bowls are glass, with a silicone sleeve for easy gripping. They’re also leak proof, and microwave and dishwasher safe. I love that the lids on these feel so sturdy – other brands I have are constantly cracking or popping off, which is no good if you’re taking food on-the-go.

7. An apron they’ll actually love to wear hedley and bennett denim apron gifts for people who like to cook

Hedley & Bennett Cedar Blue Denim Apron - $105

Hedley & Bennett is known for their high quality, aesthetic aprons (definitely gift this if the person who likes to cook in your life is also a content creator).

This apron is so cute, whoever you’re gifting this to won’t even want to take it off when they’re done cooking. They’ll look super put together even on the days they’re rushing around the kitchen to host a big meal. I’m in love with the denim (might even gift this one to myself), but there are a ton of solid color and pattern options for everyone.

8. A recipe book to level up Taco Tuesday

Siete table recipe book The Siete Table - $28

Created by the Garza family, Siete is known for their grain-free chips, tortillas, and other products you’ve likely seen in your grocery store. Their passion for food is no secret, and you’ll often find the team at headquarters cooking up a massive, delicious spread of Mexican-American food.

Lucky for those of us who don’t get to enjoy their HQ food parties (sad), Siete recently created a cookbook so we can enjoy their recipes at home. My favorite thing about this cookbook is how the recipes inspire me to broaden my cooking horizon. Every recipe, from chilaquiles to empanadas to vegan “chorizo” feels totally doable. The ingredient list is simple without being boring, and it truly feels like I was just handed down a family heirloom. If you gift this, your recipient will feel the same!
