Get it now

Teddy Hamilton and Victoria Mei knocked this one out of the park!

Bristol is four feet nine inches of creativity and energy, and former Navy SEAL Rocky is impressed with her from the moment he meets her!

What I love most about a jungle or ocean rescue is that the woman can be out of her element, but not a pain in the butt. (Well, unless her name is Julie...remember that scene in Protecting Fiona? lol) I write these scenes the way I would like to act if I was ever in that kind of situation. I'm not sure that would be the case, but since this is fiction, I can imagine, right?

But seriously, I can't imagine being hurt and alone in the woods and what I'd do...but I'd like to think I'd act like Bristol does in this case (and the hot guy coming to my rescue isn't a bad thought either! HA!)

But there's more to this book than just the rescue in the woods. Bristol is an artist, and feels isolated because of her profession and the money she makes. And then there's the guy who is obsessed with her (and it's NOT Rocky...well it is, but not in the same way).

Anyway, if you're an audio person, you can get this one NOW. And if you're an ebook person, no worries, this one will be out in less than a week! (and if you ordered a paperback or hardback from my website, they're already on the way to you! It's not too late though, you can still order a signed copy from my online store now and I'll get it in the mail tomorrow for you!)

If you haven't checked out the first chapter on my website, you can still do that while you're waiting for the ebook to drop next week! Read and Listen on!

Don't miss out

Bristol and Rocky are coming!

To get you ready, this week I've got the first chapter up on my website for you!
And....it's a LONG chapter! I didn't realize until I was copying it over. Whew! You get lots of goodness in that chapter! But then again, the book itself is almost 100,000 words! That's a long book. Lots of things happen in this one...starting with the rescue in the forest (I mean, that's what the Eagle Point Search & Rescue team does...rescue people in the woods! HA!)

And...a reminder that the Audio version comes out NEXT WEEK! I can't believe it's already almost here. It's crazy how fast this year is passing.

If you haven't started this series yet (Starts with Searching for Lilly, then Elsie, and now Bristol), please do! I can tell some of you aren't as excited about this one as some of my others but even though the heroes aren't current military, they're still protective and a little alpha and the women are just as strong and down-to-earth as in my other books. :)

I love this time of year. I can open the windows, let in the crisp air, sleep under piles of blankets and not sweat to death and everything just seems cleaner with the cooler air. I am definitely someone who would rather be chilly than hot. (I mean, I don't love snow, but I can handle being INSIDE and looking at it outside. Driving in it is a different story! HA!)

As we approach the holiday season...be kind. To yourself and to others. Give people the benefit of the doubt and please, please, please, be gracious to those who work in retail or the service industry (food servers, hotel workers, emergency services, etc). These are difficult jobs at any time, but especially in November and December. We're all trying to make enough money to eat, pay rent, and give our families a happy holiday.

Read on!

You're going to want to read this...

Searching for Bristol will be here before we know it!
Only 2 weeks before the audio is live and 3 before the ebook is here! EEK!

I wanted to share an except below. This book STARTS with a rescue in the forest (which you all know I love). Bristol has gotten lost and Rocky heads out to see if he can find her...which of course he does! Bristol is tough, Rocky is strong yet vulnerable...my favorite combination!

The audio of this one comes out on Nov 8th and I've got the signed paperbacks and hardbacks in my online store that I'll send out around the 8th as well. I've got some books and swag on sale and new long sleeve and v-neck t-shirts in as well. I try to keep a bunch of new stuff in there for all of you.

Also, I do a holiday card giveaway every year. You have no obligation other than giving me your address so I can send you a card. It's not an exchange, just a little thank you from me to you. If you want to sign up, you can do so by clicking HERE.

As always, thank you for being loyal readers. I appreciate each and every one of you! Read on!

Get this month's freebie!

Thank you all for the kind words about Finding Carly which came out last week! I always appreciate each and every one of you who picks up a copy of my books. It's such a compliment and I'll never take you for granted.

Before we get into teasing about Searching for Bristol next week, (which comes out in LESS THAN A MONTH! EEK) I wanted to talk about something that I get a fair number of emails about.

Why are your books not in Kindle Unlimited? I wish you'd put your books in KU. I can't afford to buy your books. I'm on a fixed income and can't buy books. I've already read your free books, can't you make something else free? It's been a while since you've done that.

I get it. Who doesn't want stuff for free? I know I love me a good deal and discount, especially in today's economy. BUT, you may not know this (or you may not care), but in order for a book to be in Amazon's KU program, it is not allowed to be on ANY OTHER BOOK PLATFORM. That includes libraries. So in order for me to put my books in kindle unlimited, I have to deny all my readers on Apple, Kobo, Google Play, Barnes and Noble, and those who borrow them from their local library, a chance to read it.

And I just don't want to do that.
Before you email an author and ask for free stuff, think about the money you spend on crap all the time. I took notice this week...I spent $20 at Chick Fil'A when I could've gone home and made my lunch. I bought a drink at the gas station when I was there for $3.99, I picked up some of the candy in the impulse aisle at the grocery store that was at least $10. I bought a greeting card with SEVEN freaking words for $7.99. Were any of those things necessary? Not really. I could've bought NINE of my books instead of all that crap.
All I'm saying is that I don't think my books are TOO expensive. You get around 100,000 words for five bucks. Some of you read really fast, but generally that's hours of entertainment. AND you have the book forever to re-read if you want. Yes, if you're just starting out with my books it can be daunting to see how many books are in my backlist and that could get pricey, BUT...you can ALWAYS request them from your library....in digital or paperback form. They're there for your enjoyment (and yes, I get paid when libraries buy my books).

I don't mean to be preachy, but since I get asked this question all the time, I figured I'd address how it feels to be on the receiving end of it. You wouldn't go to your favorite restaurant and tell the owner that you LOVE his food, but it's just too expensive and can you have it for free? So you tell me that enjoy my stories, but not enough to actually PAY for them?

I love what I do, but my books pay my bills. I do put books on sale a lot (like Finding Lexie is currently FREE for a short time in the US, AU, UK and CA (not on Amazon unfortunately in Canada as Amazon refused to price match it when I asked...they are the only vendor who won't let authors change our prices to free, we have to email them and beg them to do it, we're at their mercy). I also have FOUR books that are completely free for anyone, anytime, on ALL the book platforms. I don't have to do that, but I do because I want to encourage people to try me out.

ANYWAY, my point is...I'm not going to say I'll never put my books in KU, because this market is constantly changing, but I DO have 16 of them in that program right now. SIXTEEEN! Plus the 4 I have for free. That's TWENTY of my books you can read for "Free." If you truly love my stories, or any author's stories, save those pennies, forgo that expensive drink, don't eat out one night, so you can splurge on something that won't rot your teeth. :)

All right, enough of that. Along with Finding Lexie being free on all the book platforms in a few countries, I have another book by one of my author friends that is FREE. Aurora Rose Reynolds has generously allowed me to share with you the link to her book, Wide Open Spaces. I love Aurora's books, she's the queen of the BOOM...or her hero instantly knowing a woman is "his." Check it out!

Next week, I'm back fast and furious with teasers for Searching for Bristol. I've got an except and the first chapter ready for you. I love this one because it starts out with a jungle rescue! And you guys KNOW how much I love those! :) Bristol is a firecracker and she and Rocky are perfect for each other...as long as whoever wants to keep them apart doesn't succeed!

Remember to be kind out there. It's a tough world!

That moment your life changes.
That moment that changes your life.
That moment you love someone more than you love yourself.
That was the moment we gave our son up for adoption and the moment I was left bare. A wide-open space that would forever be empty.
There are moments that define you as a person, moments that prove just how strong you are, moments you push yourself to keep going forward when all you really want to do is give up. It was in one of those moments when I reached out and found him waiting for me.

When Shelby Calder left home fifteen years ago, she never planned on returning to the Alaskan town she left behind. But after the death of her grandfather and a bitter divorce, she hopes going home will be a fresh start for her and her ten-year-old son.

Zach Watters has made a lot of mistakes in his life. But when he sees Shelby Calder, looking more beautiful than ever, standing outside her childhood home, he promises himself that letting her go won't be a mistake he ever makes again.

Some things never change and love is one of them.

Read Finding Carly now! 📚

It's release week!

Finding Carly is HERE! On all platforms in all forms...ebook, audio, paperback & hardback!

I love this story because...Hawaii, strong heroine (even when she doesn't think she is), a vulnerable hero (even though he's a Navy SEAL), and of course a happy ending and a bad guy getting what he deserves!

I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I do!

Happy reading!

Listen to Finding Carly now! 🎧

It's audio week for Finding Carly! You can get the audio book NOW, and the ebook next week. (And I've had people say it's not "fair" that the audio comes out first...but many MANY times books never have an audio made, so my impaired readers never get to read a book. Or it comes out months after the ebook. I just want to give my audio fan a small present with each release.

I just love this series...probably because I love Hawaii and miss it so much! lol I'm thrilled to be going back to Oahu and helping Carly with her anxiety over what her ex did (remember in Finding Lexie?!?). You do NOT have to read any other book to enjoy this one, BUT, as Carly's angst has been brewing since book 2, and there was that open-ended question of if her ex had an accomplice or not...it might be good to at least read Finding Lexie before this one. :)

I completed my last book signing event of the year last week. I did SIX this year. That's a lot. Honestly, I'm tired. Logically, events are hard because authors have to figure out how to get all our books there, try to guess how many we'll sell so we don't have too many left over, get ourselves and our assistants there, be "on" all weekend...it's just a lot. With that said, next year, right now, I only have 4 scheduled...2 US signings and ONE international one. Will I be adding more? Maybe. Will I cancel any? Maybe. Life is a bitch, as I know you all are aware, and sometimes that makes it really stressful and hard to go to the book signings. I'm not PLANNING on canceling anything, but...

I also put up the signup form for my holiday card giveaway. This isn't an exchange, it's just me sending you a little note to let you know how appreciative I am of YOU for reading my books. Sign ups will be through November (and if you can, please make a note that you already signed up so you don't do it several times (because I'll be sharing this form more than once). Last year I had someone "sign up" 15 times! lol). Click HERE to sign up.

Anyway, I hope you're all enjoying the fall weather (and the warmer weather returning if you're in Australia). Take care of yourself. Be kind. And enjoy listening to Finding Carly!

Where's your favorite place?

Every time I read an excerpt from Finding Carly or any of the other books in my SEAL Team Hawaii series, I miss Hawaii! It's one of my very favorite places! I don't know what it is about it, maybe it's the sun, maybe it's the weather that's not too hot or too cold, maybe it's the turtles or the food, or maybe it's the people I've been with when I've visited...but I simply love the state!

I've tried to bring in some of my favorite places, things to do, and places to eat in this series, but I'm sure I'm missing so many more. Anyway, The restaurant, Duke's, has a large part in this series. It's on Waikiki Beach, and maybe doesn't have the best good on the island, but I love the ambiance and I've had some amazing times there with friends, which is why I've highlighted it so many times. Anyway, I do make up some places in my books, but many others are real. :)

Next week I'll share the first chapter of Finding Carly, but this week I've got a teaser that I haven't showed anywhere else yet.

Also, as a note, I have a "sale" section on my online store, and I've put a bunch of stuff that's been sitting around in boxes that needs to be moved out so I can get new fun stuff! Take a look!

Have a wonderful week! I'll be in Louisville this week at the Readers on the River event. I'm still dealing with my eyes from the surgery I had a month or so ago and have to wear these awful UV blocking glasses. UGH! So that's a not-so-fun part, but I am looking forward to seeing readers and authors alike.

Be safe out there and read on!

Get a sneak peek of Finding Carly 👀

Is it fall yet? I keep waiting for the temps to drop here, and it hasn't really happened yet. But...it's coming! No matter what you like...(and no hate here, we all need more of what makes us happy in life)...pumpkin spice, Halloween decorations, heck, even putting up your Christmas tree in October...you go girl!

Anyway, Carly is coming! She and Jag will be here before we know it! Today I thought I'd give you a little glimpse into the two of them. I love how Carly is wounded, but she's not broken. And Jag has a pretty serious back-story...one which might surprise you. Enjoy the little excerpt below!

Also, I've got Finding Carly in my online store (hardback and paperback) if signed books are your thing. I also received my shipment of additional SEAL Team Hawaii and Tracked by Tex T-shirts! I also got some super cute Tracked by Tex stickers in as well, I have one on my car! Ha! (If only Tex really was out there tracking all of us!)

The audio of Finding Carly comes out on Oct 4th (the week before the ebook), and I'll mail the books from my store around then as well.

As always, thank you all for your kind notes and messages. Keep on being awesome. Life isn't easy, but it's so short and precious. Take care of yourself as well as your loved ones.

Open for this month's freebie!

It seems as if my newsletter last week resonated with a lot of people. I might not have responded to every email you guys sent me in reply, but I did read them all. (I'm the only one who reads my emails and messages!). As I said last week, it's not easy to always be kind, but when you can, please do!

Anyway, onward!

This week I have another free book for you! Kris Michaels is an amazing author and if you haven't started her Kings of Guardian series, now is your chance to do so for FREE. Book 1, Jacob is this month's free book given away exclusively to my newsletter subscribers!

Also, we're sneaking closer and closer to my next book release! Finding Carly is coming out in a few weeks. It's a part of my SEAL Team Hawaii series. Carly was abused by her boyfriend (who was killed in an earlier book in the series), but she's sick of feeling afraid. She's sure her ex had an accomplice, but she's ready to start living again...and Jag is more than ready to be there for her to lean on.

Interesting fun fact...this is the first book of mine that has the BAD GUY's point of view in the blurb! Cool, huh? Anyway, as usual, the audiobook is on preorder and will be live a week before the ebook.
I will also have autographed paperbacks and hardbacks available in my online store, but they aren't there yet! I'm waiting to get refills of my Tracked by Tex shirt as well as the SEAL Team Hawaii shirts in. But it will be soon! I've also got new Tracked by Tex stickers for your car, computer, notebook, or whatever else you want to stick them on (because who wouldn't want to be tracked by THE Tex?)

Anyway, thank you all for being awesome. Be kind to YOURSELVES as well as others. Your mental health is important!

Read on!

August 31, 2022

There's something important on my mind this week.

I'm taking a break this week to send something different.
There are no free books, no marketing my own stories.

I just want to take the time out to say BE KIND.
In today's world of toxic Tik Tok videos, social media where you can say whatever you want, road rage, and all the stress we're under...please, just take the time to be kind.
That might mean, scrolling past a post that you really really want to comment on and tell the poster they're an idiot.
It might mean, not saying what you really feel to a relative.
It might mean letting that jerk who raced by you on the Interstate while you patiently waited in the left lane, cut in front of you a mile down the road.

I find that I want to be around people less and less because they're just so mean and judgemental. It can be hard not to speak up, not to give someone the finger, not to them they're an idiot, not post that comment, but please, remember that everyone around you is human. Maybe their dog died that day and they're struggling to cope. Maybe they're a single parent that can't afford food. Maybe they're in the middle of the divorce. Maybe they're just jerks who think of nothing but themselves and don't care about anyone else.
But that doesn't mean you have to sink to their level.

So don't send that email. Don't post that comment. Don't yell at the waiter or waitress because your food was terrible and took forever to get there. Just be kind. Let it roll off your back.
Get lost in a favorite book, snuggle your furbaby, vent to your spouse or friend...whatever it takes, but please don't add to the toxicity that is so rampant in the world right now.

I'm still working on this myself. I'm not perfect, nor would I ever pretend to be.
Read on!

~Susan

PS: This email wasn't prompted by anyone being mean to me, or at least not any more than usual. As a "public figure" I get my share of nasty emails, but honestly, this newsletter is more a general statement. I've seen so much hatred and meanness lately and just wish people could live their lives with a little more forgiveness in their hearts.
