Hurry Up!
I suppose you fell from a branch. Your situation appears hopeless, but then again, maybe it was on purpose. There are no leaves on the boardwalk, only the hot sun. Can’t you move a little faster? It seems like with so many legs you could get back to the trees before danger approaches.
I was invited by Lisa of Underground Energy to join in the Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge: “Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-ficti...

Slow Poison
The dose I swallow is more
And less than slow poison
The burnt match sticking,
Clinging to every sense
Consuming my being
Regurgitating it out
Soul desperately hanging
Between life and death
So again I reach down
Begging the underground
Asking for small favors
That don’t do the trick
Tell me the better way
A promise you can break
Make it all true for now
Relive what’s got me bent
Seeking truth within
Disgusted by what I find
Screaming remnants of sin
I pray for mercy again
Written with The M...
The Sun Again
Every minute past dusk resists
Resolve crumbling to the calls
All that’s left is a weak will to fight
Just as the darkness claims a win
Tenacity steals the fear of night
The sun rises and takes me in

My Halo
This love is no more than a far cry
A snake bitten clanging charm
Bane of the delicate dreamer
A mean case of the dirty blues
No warnings to fare the weather
No intervention for the jumper
This version is a memoir out of print
Every scar healed and forgotten
A peace you ‘ll never understand
The invisible begging to be seen
A nuance asking to be made clear
A playground too vast to measure
The book we wrote reads more freely
The entangled bond I’ll not fight
Timely news when it’s all come d...
Aztec Temple
Stumbling upon the perimeter of the temple, I knew this was the end. The end of a non-existent trail, one I have been cutting out of the jungle at a pace these gods might envy.
I felt the presence, both immediately and abruptly, as if it were a weight placed on my very conscience. Pressing all that I am into what the force would have me become; what I am not.
By the time I shook the feeling, I reached a poison fountain. What looks like fresh water is a perfectly deadly concoction of death....

The Poetess
I wonder where you’ll take me today
.
I know you could make it great
Unless you’re not feeling well
Or can’t tell where it’s coming from
Will you point me to the inside
Or distract me with the outside
Can the arrangement hold me
Repelling, pushing or pulling
I wonder if you will define me
She has done it all before today
So I’m thinking there’s more
Her light among elegant rivulets,
The story stirred by her darkness
As if her life were bound to it
.
I wonder where you’re taking me
...To Grow Their Wings
New Orleans
New Orleans
Vampires and voodoo
Spirits reside behind
Either one will leave you
Drunk and nowhere to hide
There are back alleys
Shaded recesses beside
The streets that take you
Where Spanish moss resides
Lost in the merriment
Cares tossed aside
The moment they find you
Legends no more inside
Only seek to steal a soul
Bite or prick alike
Either way you disappear
Missing behind the lights
I was invited by Lisa of Underground Energy to join in the Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge: “Post a ph...

Walkaways
Did you think my thorns were blunted?
Maybe the petals confused your senses
The accidental allure of my very nature
I am an invitation without an address
Sent to everyone and absolutely no one
Save for the daring walk away souls
Sealed with the crimson wax of my stamp
A seal that keeps my sleepy desire at bay
Slowly carved with tools, the shape an A
One symbol to draw all conclusions
Distracted from simplicity’s yearning
Did you notice my heart is burning?
If the heart were feral, unable to...
