Five Days, Five Photos – Day 1
Just beyond the sign post
Where I belong, what I want
Traded Azaleas for sage brush
Persimmons for prickly pear
Cockroaches for scorpions
Everything stifling, to dry air
I finally made it to nothing
Happy to live in the nowhere
None of them will find me
If any of them care to know
My escape to high desert
Unfettered view everywhere
I was invited by Holly of A Heartafire to join in the Five Days, Five Photos challenge. Thanks, Holly!
The rules are as follows: “Post a photo each day for five c...
The Ghost
Left with a shadow
A see-through ghost
Of someone I knew
Ages ago, another life
They must have been great
If memory could serve
Enough to live another
No more a hologram
Of what used to be
Something to touch
To touch me
I’ll keep the haunt
If only you’ll stay
Search through the pieces
Find another way
To feel more than I see
More than this vapor
No less than free

Raven’s Lore
I light wherever I may, you stare as if my prey
The beast to take you, a creature to glare
As the story goes, I am to greet you
Judge you, steal you, hide you, damn you
I tell you, the lines seldom bare me true
For I am a simple fowl, black as my down
Myth and fairy tale paint me in a darker coat
Your stories lie in envy, and in cretinous fear
For to fly from your advance, must be exacting
Elusive you make me, scarce you will see me
When you find me on the perimeter fence
Fear may grip you,...
Serenade
Sing to me, a song to soothe
The song you’ve been waiting to write
The words you keep inside
I know they’re in there
Make the words reflect what I see in your eyes
I hear them already
I’ve been listening
A serenade might do the trick
Even though I know how it sounds
I want to hear it from your mouth
I’ll watch the way the notes spill
Like cool water on my head on the hottest day
Quenching the power of the cruel sun
I’ll sing it with you
A serenade like love, like perfect
As long as the tune...

Music Theme – Our Father In Heaven
Madeline chose our theme for this week. My dad is still alive. He called me yesterday morning from Colorado to tell me about the sun rising over the LaPlata mountains. He is the one responsible for my fairy tale upbringing in the Rockies. I would even venture to say that those mountains remind him of watching me learn to be fearless in the midst of something so big.
He watched me rapel for the first time. I think he might have been more afraid than I was. He taught me to ski. His nickname is...

Katarina
Oh, Katarina, tell me again
What more I can give
That you don’t already have
You sought the finest linens
Statues from forbidden lands
I found it all and painted them
But my service left demands
So I cry out in song
Plead between each note
Sing, “Oh Katarina, how you bleed me dry”
“Oh Katarina, my art does make you high”
Another day pounces
But not like you
A new song is in order,
All I have turned blue
Katarina, fill me
My song will only play
On the wisps of your whims
The trail of gold fle...

A Poem About A Muse
Take good care of your muse
She is human, believe it true
Never let her thirst for a thing
Feed her as if your regal queen
If she catches cold and dies
Your future in the afterlife
Hope against hope and more
She might come back to life
When she breathes again
You’ll swear it can’t be true
So put your face to hers
Feel life’s breath imbued
Though she is living again
Looks and moves the same
Put away your temptation
To play every old game
Death will have changed her
In many subtle, quiet ways
...
