The Manuscript Found in Saragossa(AKAThe Saragossa Manuscript)is a deliciously meta frame story, written by Jan Potocki. The novel's interlocking structure has drawn comparisons to Arabian Nights, the Decameron, and may have even inspired a TheSimpsons episode.

Read about Bosch'sHaywain Triptych. My favorite interpretation is in viewing the main panels as a parallel to the tarot's seventh major arcana, the Chariot: where the leftmost panel represents the card displayed upright, as a symbol of progress; and the right panel is a representation of the reversed card, and immoral behavior.
