3 Steps to Building A Successful Business

There is actually a blueprint for growing a successful business, and it depends on doing the correct step at the right time. Building a successful business requires optimal alignment of three key pieces – strategy, a growth system, and growth authority. By following these three steps, in the correct order, you can reach success in building your business.

Develop A Strategy

The first step in building your business is critical; it’s strategy. Without developing a strategic plan for getting from point A to point B, you will wander around wasting valuable time and energy. To begin this process, you must envision your destination and know where you are right now – your starting point. When you know where you are and have a clear vision of where you want to be, you can develop a strategy to reach your goals.

Design A Growth System

Designing a growth system is the second step to business building success. Service providers, coaches, consultants – anyone in the service industry – often get caught in the trap of offering multiple services without designing a cohesive system. When this happens, tons of ideas and information get thrown at your customers and prospects, hoping that something will stick. When your services are scattered all over the place, it is overwhelming and keeps your business from the successful alignment that would allow you to reach your target audience. By designing a growth system, you are building an umbrella over your offer so that all the services you provide fit in one place and make sense, bringing continuity to your offer.

Build Your Growth Authority

Lastly, the third step is building your growth authority. If you want to improve your expert status and become a dominant force in your industry, the goal is never to be the best-kept secret; the goal is to reveal yourself as an authority and expose who you are to the world.

If you need assistance mastering this alignment, I created a Mastermind that will provide you with the blueprints we have created and give you the pieces you need to begin aligning for success. By using what we have created, you can follow a weekly plan that will take you step by step through the process with two pieces of content and 50 touchpoints every week. If you are interested in this, go to uncoverysession.com and let me know what is going on in your business. I would be more than happy to help you develop your plan and assist you in aligning for success.

At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you successfully build your business by developing a strategy, designing a growth system, and building authority – the three elements you need for success. Top 10 Characteristics of Entrepreneur

Finding success as an entrepreneur requires developing specific characteristics that allow you to focus on your goals and challenges to reach your vision. By developing these ten traits of successful entrepreneurs, you will have the tools to achieve your goals and experience success.

Mindset

Having the right mindset is vital to success because it allows you to focus on your goals and challenges and continue to push through. To succeed as an entrepreneur, this is the number one attribute you must possess; you must believe that you can and will succeed.

Tenacity

It takes drive to dive into what needs to be done and keep pushing forward step by step. Perseverance and tenacity are vital because you must stay the course when obstacles happen along the way. No matter the vision or the courage it took to step in, determination is critical to success because it allows you to finish the process.

Courage

Courage is the audacity to never give up. When you encounter inevitable setbacks, courage gives you the strength to push on through your fear. Courage does not mean that you don’t feel fear; it means you recognize the fear and do it anyway. The trick to overriding your old programming is acknowledging the fear and doing it anyway.

Strategic Thinking

Strategy is the plan that helps you reach a specific goal. When you develop strategic thinking, you can determine the steps you need to take to achieve your goals. Thinking strategically is essential to your success because it allows you to break your plan into specific action steps that will lead you to success. Don’t be afraid of strategy – it leads to results.

Reframing

Reframing is a concept that very few people talk about, yet it can impact success more than any other concept. It is the ability to walk into any situation, especially the negative ones, and find a way to turn it into a positive. People with a reframing mindset consider the problems and the challenges and see the potential for greatness in the situation with a “wouldn’t it be great if…” response to obstacles, which is critical to success.

Discipline and Focus

Discipline and focus go hand in hand because it allows you to follow through with what you say you will do. Often, people always ask me how I manage to get everything accomplished. How did I not give up when so many devastating things were happening to me? The answer is straightforward. I was laser-focused on what I wanted to do and refused to permit myself to wallow in my misfortune. Before I sold my business to Bill Gates, I trudged through ten challenging years and found myself in over $135,000 of debt. The only way to succeed is to discipline your thoughts and habits. Stop avoiding the things you know you need to do. It is that simple. Now is the time to embrace action.

Curiosity

Curiosity is the difference between shooting down ideas you have preconceived notions about versus approaching an idea with a “tell me more about that” attitude. Because we are wired to like to listen to people and ideas that we already believe in, it can result in losing out on valuable information because we never even consider alternatives. The entire idea of being an entrepreneur, a business owner, or a founder is for you to allow new ideas and concepts to come in and approach them with curiosity so you can learn more and reach more people. Using curiosity shapes your perception from good or bad to an appreciation for the process.

Failing Fast

Failure is inevitable and, rather than being feared, should be embraced as a growth opportunity to help you reach your goals even faster. When we realize that the quicker we fail, the more likely we are to experience success, the fear of failure can be dispelled and viewed from a growth perspective. When you shift your mindset this way, failure becomes a roadmap that works as a guide to the paths you should and should not take. The faster you fail, the more prominent the correct way becomes.

Detachment

Detachment is the skill that allows you to embrace the reality that everything is not really about you. Yes, your name is on it; your money is in it; your name is on the door; you came up with the idea – but you have to have a healthy distance of detachment, which is why it is vital to design systems that make your business broader than just you. When it becomes a system, you can begin to speak about what you do as a third-party entity — It’s no longer me, me, me, but rather a business that is larger than just you.

Passion

One of the most powerful motivators for success is found in the fiery passion that burns inside you. Passion is essential because it comes from your heart and gives you a reason to get up every morning and make your goals a reality. Entrepreneurs without passion and purpose will rarely experience success because it’s the fuel for everything you do.

At the Growth Architect, we want to help you break through with the tools you need to find success in your business. If you want to hear more about developing the mindset and tools needed to find success as an entrepreneur, then watch my video.

How To Grow A Business

Does it ever seem like growing a business from an idea to success is a mystery filled with never ending to-do lists and hundreds of action items with no consistent, sequential steps to follow to transform your passion into profits? The truth is, there is a proven process that takes the guesswork out of successfully growing your business — I know because I started a business, developed it, and sold it for millions of dollars to Bill Gates. I call it my 5 Star Success Blueprint, and I have used it to help hundreds of companies grow, build, and scale their businesses. This step-by-step process evaluates specific business components and ensures that each piece is in order and properly aligned to take you to that next level.

Know Your Ideas and Audience

The first step to growing your business begins by evaluating your idea to ensure it is clear and precisely articulates what you are doing. It is critical to communicate exactly how what you have to offer helps them with what they need and provides a solution. Once you set the idea, you must understand your audience, your ideal avatar, and why you are the right person to make this offer — what makes you uniquely qualified. These differentiating factors allow you to solve problems for your clients, and everything is built on this part of your business.

If this is where you are, I recommend starting with my Airtight Avatar. This is a foundational piece I give away for free to help you nail down the first piece of your blueprint. The downloadable guide will allow you to uncover exactly who you are targeting, and once you know your audience, you can take the following steps in your business strategy.

Perfect Your Offer

Once you have clearly defined your idea and target audience, you continue building your business by perfecting your offer. Without step one nailed down, this step cannot happen because it is based on the direct relationship of your ability to solve a problem for the people you are serving. You must perfect how you deliver your offer to your clients; it must be in a language that speaks to them – designed around how you can solve their problem.

Build the Systems

With your idea, audience, and offer established, you continue building your business by developing your system. Often, this is the step in building a business that many people think is optional and can be overlooked – it can’t. Without systematizing your business and putting processes and procedures in place, you cannot grow because you have based everything on yourself. When this happens, and you build everything around you, allowing others to be part of the process is impossible because you have nothing to hand over to them. If you choose to do everything yourself, you will eventually run out of time and drive yourself crazy trying to do everything alone. So building a system is a vital part of growing a successful business. Do not skip it because it seems overwhelming or something you can do without. It can be simple and concise when it is thought through properly.

Focus On Your Team

Your people matter, and growing your business requires you to focus on your team. You can automate as much as possible to save money, but at some point, you will need others to carry out essential tasks. Finding the right people will be built out in developing your systems, but once you have them, you must consider how you support them. Your team is vital to your success and allows you to effectively serve your clients, customers, or patients.

Evaluate Leadership

Lastly, you must evaluate your leadership. Anyone that leads an organization must be able to lead the team – the team that operates the system, the system that supports the offer and provides a solution for your clients. Leadership cannot be overlooked because it will impact every aspect of the company.

At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you develop a business strategy that will give you the tools you need for success in building your business. If you want to learn more about building and growing your business, then watch my video, and contact me if you want me to lead you through the 5 Star Success Blueprint.

How To Be Taken More Seriously

Have you ever wondered how to be taken more seriously and viewed as an authority in your work? By learning a few practical strategies and reframing ideas, you can show up and be taken seriously in any situation.

Know Your Personality

When you want to be taken seriously, typically, you are looking for others to see and hear your contributions. The first step toward accomplishing this goal is to understand your personality. I recommend taking a personality assessment to grasp your strengths and what makes you tick. Myers-Briggs is my “go-to” because it allows you to learn about yourself and other personalities. When you know if you are an introvert or an extrovert, whether you are ruled by emotions, feelings, thinking, or intuition, you begin to develop self-awareness that can impact your success. By knowing who you are and how you are perceived, you can adjust your strategy and show up the way you want to be viewed.

Develop Strategies That Work for Who You Are

Once you have studied the data on the components of your personality that make you unique, you are ready to create a strategy that works for you. For example, if you know you are an introvert in a room full of extroverted people who tend to rule the room, you must develop a plan for being heard. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos was masterful at overcoming this problem. He gave each person in the room a handout and didn’t allow anyone to speak until they had all read the information. This leveled the playing field because everyone operated from the same data set.

By developing a strategy like this, an introvert lets everyone encounter the message they wanted them to hear, allowing them to establish authority within the group. This is just one example of how you develop strategies based on your personality. Extroverts will most likely approach a meeting entirely differently – the key is finding a way to be seen and heard that works for who you are.

Be Prepared for Curveballs

Be prepared for someone to throw a curveball and try to rattle you – this is an effective strategy that others will use to keep you off balance and for them to gain authority. If you are falling for their plan to throw you off – that is on you. When they use a strategy to make you look unprepared and foolish, they are really trying to make you feel inferior, stumble, and pull back so they can take the top spot. It is up to you to keep this from happening, and I have some fantastic tricks for dealing with these tricky situations.

My number one favorite tip for dealing with people like this is to pause, say “hmmm,” – laugh, say “okay,” and move on and completely ignore what they said. This works because if you give it fire, you just lost. Ignore it, and let it go. The other option is to say, “That is an interesting point, let’s put it in the parking lot, and I will discuss it with you later,” and move on. Either way, you do not allow the person trying to throw you off to accomplish their goal.

Stay In Control

The most critical part of being taken seriously is always being in charge; stay in control. If you want to be taken seriously as a leader, whether you’re an entrepreneur, a business owner, a founder, or a startup, the most important thing you can do is always stay in control. Whether you like it or not, you are in control of the conversation and how other people make you feel is on you – it’s not on them. They only win if you let them succeed.

At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you develop a plan to give you the strategies you need to build authority and be taken seriously. If you want to learn more about how to be taken more seriously, watch my video, and contact me when you are ready to develop your growth strategy!

Where Do You Belong?

The one constant over the past three years has been change, and lots of it. You made it through the first hard pivot – isolation, then some odd “new normal,” and now you may be realizing that there is a new pivotal moment right in front of you, forcing you to evaluate where you belong now. Do you want to continue doing the things you’re doing? Should you venture out and try something new? Where do you belong? Feelings of uncertainty and an unclear picture of the future can create anxiety and make decision-making even more difficult. The first step to finding a sense of belonging requires taking a hard look at where you are right now and determining what needs to change.

Realize You Are Hardwired for Safety

Whether you realize it or not, we are all hardwired through our subconscious programming to seek safety. You may argue that nothing is safe, so this is an elusive endeavor, but we still seek safety as human beings. Predictability is a form of safety and comfort – you get up at the same time, follow the same routine, eat similar meals, and drive the same routes – that reliability creates feelings of safety and security. Changes in your life, whether forced or chosen, create discomfort.

When the discomfort gets too intense, and your sense of safety and security is threatened too much, you reach a place where something has to change. When this happens, it is natural to begin questioning where you belong, especially when it involves your job. I believe a significant aspect of the “great resignation” is that many things in life are not changeable – literally, the only thing that a lot of people have control over right now is where they work. You may not be able to change many areas in your life – family, partners, relationships, residence – but you have control over employment; it is the easiest place to make a shift, and many are making it.

Know Where You Want To Be

If this is where you find yourself, I challenge you at this moment in your journey to pause and evaluate what it means to you to achieve your ultimate goal in your career or life. Where is it that you even want to go? The answers to these questions matter because they are the key to finding where you belong. When you reach clarity on what your end goal looks like, making decisions that make you feel like you belong becomes exponentially easier. A clear picture of what you are working toward allows you to find communities where you belong and where you can push toward your goals.

You Are Never Helpless

The message here is that you are not helpless – you are never helpless – you always have choices. If you feel like you don’t belong or are in a place where you really need to reinvent yourself and do something different, start with a firm understanding of your end goal. First, set your mind clearly on the prize and the direction you want to go. With a strong sense of your starting point and your desired future, you can begin deliberately – with actionable insights and steps – to actually move toward your goal. And that is what creates the sense of belonging; when you know where you’re going and recognize that you are taking the steps needed to get there, it creates that sense of safety. This sense of belonging and security is based on you creating that feeling within yourself – you controlling your future – and it is no longer determined by anything external.

At the Growth Architect, your growth is at the height of importance, and our goal is to help you reach your full potential. If you want to learn more about making decisions about change and belongingness, watch my video on discovering where you belong.

3 Essential Framework Elements for Building Authority

If you want to improve your expert status and become a dominant force in your industry, you must learn to establish a framework for building authority. The goal is never to be the best-kept secret; the goal is to reveal yourself as an authority and expose your brilliance to the world. To do this, mindset, strategy, and a commitment to growth are essential to becoming an authority and growing your influence.

Mindset Matters

Before taking a single step toward authority, your mindset must clearly focus on what you want to achieve. Reaching authority is impossible without a goal that is visible in your mind and a strong belief that reaching that goal is possible. The ability to envision where you want to be is an essential piece of the authority framework because it is what keeps you focused and walking down the path to outcomes. Once you know your goal and can see yourself in that role, you are ready for the steps to get you there.

Develop Your Strategy

Strategy is always critical; without it, you will simply wander around and waste time and energy. To begin this process, you must envision your destination and know where you are right now – your starting point. When you know where you are and can see where you want to be, that is when you design a strategy to get there.

The strategies you build are essential to developing a roadmap – a blueprint for building your authority. Trying to build any structure without a plan – a blueprint – is almost impossible. When you create a blueprint for a house, you don’t need to know every single detail inside the finished home – colors, decor, furnishings – the blueprint is not for that; it is for creating a sound structure designed for what you need. Think about strategy from that same perspective. It will be the framework that provides a strong foundation and format for the goals you want to achieve. Once you develop your strategy, you will have the freedom and flexibility to create the details that reflect you.

Commit to Growth

Without a commitment to growth, you will never move forward. A growth mindset and a growth strategy are critical to reaching your vision. Along this path, you will encounter areas that stretch you and require an exit from your comfort zone, which is a requirement for reaching your goals. You will be forced to figure out how to do things you may never have done before – How do you get in front of people? How do you get your message out? How do you create lead generation? Are you doing LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, SEO, TikTok, Clubhouse, ads, etc.? Just listing all of these components can create anxiety, right? You don’t need to do it all at once, which is why strategy is so essential; it identifies the elements you actually need to do to get from where you are to where you want to be.

At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you develop a plan to give you the growth map you need to build authority. If you want to learn more about building your authority, download my free guide, 3 Essential Framework Elements to Grow Your Authority, watch my video, and contact me when you are ready to develop your growth strategy!

One Strategy That Will Improve Your Self-Care

Self-care is a concept that can seem unnecessary, but it is actually quite crucial to success. The role self-care plays can often be overlooked until a setback requires you to slow down. When setbacks happen – an illness, a job loss, whatever it is – there is one important strategy to implement that will change your perspective and lead to growth.

Setbacks Never Happen At Convenient Times

Life is filled with unexpected setbacks that seem to come out of nowhere. The truth is, they often occur at the worst times when you literally do not have the time to stop and adjust, and you certainly don’t have time to “self-care,” but the truth is, you don’t have a choice. You may break an arm, like I did, or have a health scare or diagnosis that is more serious. Maybe, when stress begins to pile up, your body reacts with nagging issues that pop up at the worst times, like migraines or fever blisters. Your body is telling you that you must slow down, but how can you find a way to make self-care a priority in your busy life? It requires a shift in mindset.

Look For The Gift

When setbacks happen in your life, the most important thing you can do is look for the gift. Human nature will have you do the complete opposite of this; you will begin to question why things have happened and view everything negatively. It is human to have these thoughts and questions – Why is this happening to me? What have I done to deserve this? Why am I so unlucky? When you begin to dwell on these negative thoughts and questions, you can start to feel alone and singled out with unfair treatment – at that moment, you have reached the time to pause and look for the blessing in disguise. This setback that happened when you absolutely did not have time for it may just be a massive wake-up call to change your direction and learn to take care of yourself – the jolt you needed to let you know you must begin taking care of yourself and focus on self-care. When you stop viewing the setback as a curse and start to view it as a gift, you can begin to transform how you do life.

Time and Space Allow for Ingenuity

To begin the process of finding the gift amid a setback, you must assess your world – what is going on around you? Maybe you are working crazy hours, sucking up every minute of your life. If this is the case, which it was for me, I didn’t realize it until I couldn’t do as much as I usually did. I couldn’t drive myself as hard as I had become accustomed to, and I required more rest. What I found in this time of rest — that I would have typically seen as a waste of time — was that by resting, I opened up new channels of information.

The paradox of self-care is that you don’t have time for it but don’t have time not to do it. When you fill every single minute with – Go, Go, Go – you miss the most critical moments that allow you to actually find success. Not only are you missing your life and perhaps the lives of those around you, but you are also missing out on productive thought patterns. The sweet stuff happens in the space between work and an idea. It is actually in the resting moment when productive ideas come to mind. Rarely will a fantastic idea come to you in times of stress and obsessive work patterns.

Resist Judging The Experience

When it comes to self-care, the most important thing you can do is resist the temptation to judge the experience. Don’t travel down the rabbit hole of “why me?” or “poor me.” Embrace the moment with one of my favorite tools – curiosity. Go look for the gift. Dig in and figure out the amazing things you can take away from this unexpected experience.

At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you develop strategies that will give you the tools you need for success. If you want to learn more about how to find self-care opportunities in setbacks, watch my video and contact me when you are ready to create your growth strategy!

What A Strategist Can Do For Your Organization

What is a strategist? What does a strategist even do? How many strategies are there? Which one is the right one for me? These are all questions you need to be asking because of the critical role strategy plays in the success of your business; strategy must be mastered if you want to reach your goals. A skilled strategist can partner with you to develop a strategy that allows you to have a step-by-step plan for success while giving you a clear picture of areas that need to change.

Know Your End Goals

Before you can craft a single piece of effective strategy, you must determine what you want to achieve. Then, you begin creating a plan to reach your ultimate goal with specific pieces of the plan to reach success. Without a clear picture of what you want to accomplish, it will be impossible to know the path to get there. This has to be nailed down before an organization can put a strategy into action. If you are just starting this process, I cannot stress how important it is to have a clear vision – every other component depends on this first step.

Evaluate Your Organization

A skilled strategist will allow you to evaluate your organization to determine areas of strength and weakness. At the Growth Architect, I incorporate my 5-Star Success Blueprint which provides a stencil to lay over an organization to find where changes need to occur. Our personalized strategy allows us to quickly diagnose areas within an organization where problems are stifling progress and then design a Success Blueprint that begins the path toward exponential results.

First, we assess the idea/vision for clarity. Second, we determine the viability of the offer/product/service. The third step focuses on the systems to determine if they are creating more work or helping accomplish goals. Fourth, we assess the team dynamics to establish if they are collaborating and communicating effectively. Lastly, we determine if the leader is involved, visible, transparent, and clear. By evaluating these five areas and creating a strategy to bring weak areas into alignment, we can dramatically amplify the organization’s growth.

By knowing which area to address, organizations can stop the cycle of repeatedly putting a band aid on the problem and achieve alignment in each vital area.

Align Your Organization for Success

Once all of these components are aligned, as a strategist, I help organizations construct a sound, working business strategy that will propel growth. Because business is dynamic, this is not a “one and done” process. You must consistently revisit and adjust as you experience growth and change for your strategy to continue to work. To do this, we apply the following Growth Architect process–

Uncover – Find the issuesGrowth System – Create your roadmapGrowth Strategy – Intentional implementationGrowth Authority – Scale your impact

The value of a well-crafted business strategy to the success of your business cannot be overstated. In this changing business environment, consider the benefits a strategist can bring to the success of your organization. At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you develop a business strategy that will give you the map you need for success. The Danger of an Inconsistent Attitude

Attitude is built on consistency and discipline, and you must create this in yourself before you can display it to others. Inconsistent behaviors – not following through on commitments, being unreliable – reveal to those around you that you are not trustworthy and don’t care. By learning to keep your promises to yourself, you build confidence and change how you and others perceive you.

Follow Through Matters

Few things are more frustrating than when people make promises and don’t follow through on their commitments. When this happens, it creates questions about trustworthiness and your ability to rely on that person. This can present itself in multiple ways – maybe they are consistently late, say they are coming and don’t show up, say they will bring something and don’t bring it, forget to do what they said they would do – you know this list; it’s always the same story. When people act this way, it leaves others feeling frustrated and unimportant. These inconsistent behaviors create an atmosphere of distrust, damaging all types of relationships.

Look In The Mirror

Have you ever paused to assess if you treat yourself this way? I challenge you to take an evaluative look in the mirror and really assess your relationship with yourself. What is it like? Do you make a to-do list and not follow through with it? Do you tell yourself you will accomplish a goal and never achieve it? If this is true, you have taught yourself to doubt your own word. When you make a promise to yourself, and you don’t do what you said you would do, you signal to yourself that you are not trustworthy and you are a person that does not keep your word.

This may not seem like a big issue, but actually, it is. When you say you are going to build your business, grow your authority and scale your impact, impact the world, crush sales, build a million-dollar business, and you don’t make your best effort to accomplish these goals, you erode your trust in yourself. This matters because your relationship with yourself is the building block for building relationships with other people. You must believe that your word matters and it is worth something.

Commit to a Daily Five

The best way to begin having a consistent attitude is to create a list of five things you must accomplish in a day – I call these the daily five. Before you go to bed or first thing in the morning, write down five items that you must accomplish during the day. I do not recommend writing down more than five items on this list, especially initially, because it can become overwhelming and keep you from experiencing success. These five things have now become a commitment to yourself; you will not end the day until you have accomplished these five things.

Build Confidence In Yourself

Your follow through is paramount; you must commit that you will accomplish the five things you placed on your list for the day. The list is now a commitment you have made to yourself – it is something you said that you are going to do, and you must accomplish it. When you learn to hold yourself accountable for your commitments, over time, the result becomes newfound confidence. Self-accountability actually creates a mindset that you can trust yourself to follow through with your obligations and see yourself as a person who holds yourself accountable for the work you said you would accomplish.

Start keeping your commitments to yourself. By doing this, it builds character, and character builds success. As the Growth Architect, I want to help you learn how to become more motivated, keep commitments, and hold yourself accountable to do what you said you would do. If you want to learn more about building your motivation, watch my video.

Vistage 2022 CEO Projections – What You Need To Know

The Vistage report for CEO predictions in 2022 reveals some critical areas that any business owner, podcast, coach, consultant, or service provider needs to know to go forward and build their business and a strategy to grow authority and scale impact. By understanding the business trends in the Vistage projections, it becomes evident that the future of business is based on strategy and the ability to establish yourself as the authority in your industry.

Know Areas Of Most Concern

One of the most pressing concerns for CEOs in our current work climate is rising labor costs. Most businesses have experienced a 30 to 35% in paying labor over the past two years, which is not a shock, but it is a substantial change. This, paired with a supply chain shortage, has 90% of CEOs worried about the increased costs their businesses have incurred.

CEOs are also concerned about hiring, recruiting, and sourcing employees, which leads to performance management in HR. They are aware they must change practices to attract and retain their talent and increase employee engagement to maintain their workforce, which is a massive shift. Lastly, the report indicated that CEOs are focused on market development, strategic planning, and growth. Every area on the list looks considerably different now than it did three years ago.

Manage Lasting Change

If you speak with service providers, coaches, consultants, and people in the service industry, they all indicate that their business has significantly changed in the past two years. In the beginning, everyone was hopeful that everything would snap back to normal, but it went on too long for that to be an option. It takes 30 to 90 days to change a habit, so when you stop and realize how long this change and disruption has lasted, you realize that it’s crossed multiple habit-changing timeframes, which means people have permanently changed their way of doing business. With this in mind, you can’t simply sit back and wait for it to go back to the way it used to be; that ship has sailed, and we are left with a new work environment.

Adjust Mission and Vision

When you understand that everything has shifted, that means that businesses must reevaluate their mission and vision to ensure they are relevant to the new market conditions. Without this adjustment, you will continue to work toward goals that may not even be relevant to what you can actually accomplish. You must be much more deliberate about what you do and the strategies you implement to reach your goals. This is a hard pivot – a hard shift for many leaders, but these adjustments are required.

Know Your Location – Plan Your Destination

You must know precisely where you are to be able to navigate these profound changes. I recommend an uncovery or discovery strategy, anything that will allow you to assess what is going on in your business accurately. If you are the owner, you are quite likely too attached to the outcome to evaluate your current situation accurately.

It is essential to know where you currently are and where you want to be in the future to begin the mapping process. To do this, it is necessary to take the plane to 30,000 feet and take a look at the terrain. This is not a time to look for details; the only goal is to determine where you are and where you want to land. Once this is determined, it is like making a flight plan from airport to airport to reach your destination. Without this vantage point and taking the time to plan the route, most people will do lots of backtracking and waste valuable time and energy getting where they want to be.

Work Your Strategy

Once you know where you are, where you want to be, and the steps to get there, you work your strategy. You build the system to consistently execute, which will build and grow your authority. To continue increasing your authority, you must have a system in place that consistently produces checks and balances, performance indicators, and clearly defined measures that initiate if you are on the right track. Strategy is critical for any business to establish authority in this changing environment.

If you want to establish yourself as the authority in your industry, you must be different, have your own unique language, and be crystal clear about what you are doing and the problems you’re solving. If you want people to buy from you – or work for you – strategy and willingness to adapt will be paramount to your success.

At the Growth Architect, my goal is to help you develop a business strategy that will give you the map you need for success. If you want to learn more about the Vistage CEO Prediction report, then watch my video, and contact me when you are ready to create your growth strategy!
