Are you a feminist?

Yes, but I’m often wary of dudes proclaiming that they’re feminists because it’s a movement that’s not about dudes.

My politics are aligned with a lot of feminist ideas in the same way that they line up with black rights and gay or trans rights. With all of these movements I’m an advocate, but I don’t think that’s the same as being the focus or at the center of a movement.

have you read Murakami's "the strange library", it reminded me of Roald Dahl in the best way. my only criticism was I wish it was published in some kind of format which school kids might actually see it. instead it's a fancy experimental Chip Kidd art book

I haven’t yet. I’ve only flipped through it,

I do wish it was illustrated rather than the zoomed in Chip Kidd clip art style. I liked Kidd’s designs on IQ84 and 

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage.– but both fit the book and didn’t do that zoomed in thing he does on many books.

I think about that accessibility in relation to a lot of artists whose work I like –like how they only put out Moebius books for billionaire old men and not teenagers who would flip at the influence. 

The Japanese edition of Strange Library has a cooler look to it I think.

This is one of those sequences that really only makes sense if you’ve read the previous chapter. The man with the can in the bottom panel is Nikopol and the god he’s dreaming about in the previous two panels is Horus, who has possessed an astronaut and is about to kill the whole crew around him. Probably the best part of this are the minute changes between the two panels - most subtly the shading that indicates that this is a different view of the same scene.

The creature I’m married to (who I usually only refer to as my wife when I’m trying to sound like a real adult) seems to respect me as an autonomous being capable of making my own decisions about what I watch.

Ideally I don’t wanna objectify anyone. I’m certainly aware that there can be issues in both the making and viewing of porn, but I think it’s worth respecting the decisions of people who choose to make porn for a living. And without claiming to be the final judge of which is which, I think it’s worth pointing out that sexualization and objectification aren’t the same thing, and somebody can be sexual, or perform sex, without inviting objectification.

I was aiming to approach those recent sketcbook pages very purposefully– Marian pointed out how I would often have sketchbook pages with just a random pelvis drawn on a page where the rest of it wasn’t trying to be sexual – so for the week or two I’ve been seeing what happens If I draw that stuff intentionally– trying to leave it off of other sketchbook pages, or not make it just some automatic thing.

How I show women in my work is something I’m still working on. I like drawing naked ladies, & they often look really similar, but I do want to make sure that every women i put in my work isn’t in service of some sexual so and so.

I haven’t read Airboy yet. I found a picture of the office my pal Shannon took but really it’s just me and Simon Roy in front of a window.

Would you ever consider doing what you did for Adventure Time for any other shows?

If I had infinite time & the opportunity I would do a Rick and Morty. That show is the best.
