So, like, will there be dicks in onta's comic?? I'm going to read it either way I just want to know if there will be dicks.
There’s a sex scene but I don’t think it’ll be full on porn like some of his other stuff. It’s mostly a character story.
Fantagraphics is having a 20% off sale. What should I get?
Dave Cooper’s Ripple is really good. It’s about an artist’s affair with his weird looking model. It’s a little creepy but amazingly well made and one of Cooper’s best.
Julia Gfrörer’s stuff is all fantastic. Lots of creepy horror stuff
Anything by Jason is really good. (but the stuff he didn’t write less so)– it’s a simple art style but with surprising depth.
I like Love and Rockets a lot (the Early Jamie stuff if you haven’t read it, is a great place to start)
and Hate is great.(also good to start with the Early Seattle stuff) Grunge era bitter dude humor.
Simon Hanselmann’s stuff is a lot of fun– Witch Owl and cat roomates doing drugs and being jerks.
Elenor Davis book of shorts is rad stuff . I love how she does Sci fi.
And this Flapper art book is really cool
Wandering Son is a nicely drawn manga about some transgender kids.
I’m soooper excited about them putting out Liz Suburbia’s Sacred Heart
But yeah, they have lots of great stuff.
Preaching Prophet (part 1)
Note: Prophet has unusual issue numbering, due to following on from the original ‘90s Rob Liefeld series, which ended on #20. This series therefore begins on issue #21 (ending on #45) but can be considered entirely separate for readers in general and for the purpose of this blog; so whenever I…
Great review! You should also mention Joseph Bergin’s Coloring. It really is what brings together all the different artist’s styles together. With out that unifying tone I doubt Prophet would be what it is.

Does the smaller-than life statue of the golem guy from Prophet in Liefeld's garage have a dong just behind you? Does he have a rock-dong in the comics?
It’s called Badcock

it’s been more than a year since simon-roy, royalboiler and i visited Rob Liefeld. how our lives changed that day.
So uh, what's the story behind getting that pretty dang erotic guest art from that artist named Onta in prophet #4?
Soo in Prophet we have a class of clones called Parabalani jons– that are grown to take care of the warrior Prophets. One of them named Greenknife ends up joining the story.
I’d met Fangdangler, who is a local cartoonist who sometimes works with Onta. He introduced me. I’d seen Onta (and his other name Doxy) work around and was impressed with what he does. plus I liked the idea of an artist who does gay porn comics drawing the sexy sex clones in Prophet.
Onta is also doing some comics in the Island magazine I’m working on– he’s doing a Marty Pride parade story. (getting a furry gay comic in at Image, with better art than dammed near everything else on sheves is what I’m all about–bwahahaha)

How do I know if the comics I'm making are even worthwhile? I mean, if I'm just gonna end up as another Brian Michael Bendis then what's the point, y'know?
I think deciding if they’re worth your time is up to you. I suspect that Bendis has a nice life and probably is doing what he enjoys. Which seems perfectly valid to me.
Just because I don’t personally enjoy someone’s work or see why they do what they do doesn’t mean I think they’re wasting their life– and even if I did it wouldn’t matter because it’s their own life.

Here’s a Prophet commission that me Farel and Simon did this last weekend. It’s always fun drawing with those guys. We need to do something like this with Giannis and Joseph tooo.
