Sorry if this has already been answered but what's the reasoning behind Island? Is it for creators who can't manage to keep up with 1 issue/month, for shorter series and 1 shots, for stuff you wouldn't normally see in a comic book, creating a people who ma
I guess the short version is that I’m trying to put together what I would be most excited to read every month.
I don’t think the work in it will feel like anything else coming out monthly. The vast majority of the work is single creator. ( I think with the exception of Matt and Malachi’s story.) the creators who are in it who don’t draw are doing text pieces. (like Kelly Sue in #1)
A big part of what I like about the comics community is talking about other artists whose work I’m excited about– soo this is a chance for me to put a lot of that in one place. In a different scene than a lot of the creators in it might be seen in. – Like this will be the 1st time Michael Deforge or Onta are published by Image.
I have really high hopes for the book. When talking to Emma (Rios) the idea was to use it as a platform to really push ourselves.
I dunno if that sounds pompous, but right now at Image feels like the best opportunity that I’ve ever had to really see what we can do on a creative level. seems dumb to not try and push it.
(plus it’s a way to sell multiple issue length comics for cheaper than they would be if we published them by themselves– 112 pages no ads $7.99

A sweet longtime-in-the-making surprise today: got a copy of the super-underground panel-for-panel remake of FANTASTIC FOUR #9, for which I drew a page way back in 2008! Honored to be in there with the likes of Chester Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Jim Woodring, Noah Van Sciver, Ron Rege Jr., Carrie McNinch, Dustin Harbin, Brandon Graham, Anders Nilsen, James Kolchalka, and Nate McDonough.
I’m excited to see the final thing. Cool to be included among such impressive dudes.

Anne Ishii and Graham Kolbeins joined me and Brandon to talk about their Massive comic anthology; a collection of gay manga comics featuring a wide range of burly men. It’s a really interesting and important piece of work. Graham and Anne have brought together a diverse range of men doing very different but similar work in Japan. They also have the Massive Gay Apparel line, featuring a some sexy outfits and wares.
This week, they will be bringing Gengoroh Tagame to an event in New York and then as a featured artist at TCAF.
This one was a fun talk.
