Do you think your style would translate well into horror?
I’ve written some horror stuff but I think I have a need for comfort in my stuff. I’m too into having characters & situations that I want to spend time with. It’s all a big fluffy comforter inside of the good ship papasan on a sea of hot chocolate
but yeah, that said I think some of my favorite horror cartoonists are pretty cartoony. (Emily Carroll &
Junji Ito– are my favorite horror dudes in comics)
maybe someday, but man those 2 are too good.
I've been making comics for a few years now, but I feel like I'm painfully slow at it. Do you have any advice for how I could speed up my process?
I’m not a big advocate of speeding things up for the sake of speeding them up. Sometimes your best work takes time. but that said, I feel like it’s important to sometimes forgive yourself and move on. I’d rather challenge myself than make perfect pages.
I spent a lot of my teens and 20′s thinking that I needed to get faster. & then when I stopped worrying about that and found the speed I liked to work best I just had a better time with drawing comics.
It might be worth doing a side comic where you draw in a more simple style –just for the fun of it. I tried a thing once where I would have one detailed panel per page and then the other ones would be more simple (I did the 1st Warheads porn like that)– games with yourself like that can be fun I think.
