Is there any hope of seeing you at Thought Bubble this year? I nearly saw you at TB'13 but you had to go to a panel. It was really cool seeing people in front getting a good chunk of time, seeing you actually give a shit about fans instead of just moving p

Man, I hope I can make it. I should be making the rounds to push 8house and Island if anything. I had such a blast the year I was at Thought Bubble and the people who run it are awesome.

And thanks sooo much for the nice words. I was really impressed by the people I met at that show.(I’m reading a book now, FROSTED by J.E. Cole who I met that year)  I had too much to talk about with them! but yeahh, unfortunately that is bad for lines.

Another random assortment of sketches from reference. It’s my new favourite thing, so gird your loins.

MARIAN SKETCHES. I would marry her and kiss her on her hissing face. (did!)

I've noticed in more than one of your sketchbook posts there's (what appears to be) a guy with (what appears to be) scars that closely resemble those you might have after a mastectomy. Is that the case? Sorry if this is too personal or inappropriate a ques

I do draw some scarred chests. I draw myself with a scar too sometimes (I got a nut removed because of cancer –that they pulled out just under my belly)

It’s a little captain Harlock or maybe just tied into showing that someone has been through something, either cancer, bad dude war, or changing their body to better fit their mind~-all of that.

It’s always an attempt to draw people that seem like real people, scars and body hair. I should draw more body types though hmmm. I wanna be Sophie Campbell when I grow up

hooooly shit, Brandon. Joe shared this thing by Moebius and it was ridiculously detailed. Crosshatching to the extreme, fuck. It's gotta be hard looking up to this guy, especially if you're tangled in that web of comparing yourself to him. Is it difficult?

When I look at what Moebius draws I feel like he makes it seem more possible to draw. Michael

Kaluta
once told me that Moebius, is an artist that teaches you how to draw by looking at his work. Some of his best stuff is just simple pretty lines.

I think a lot of what made him great wasn’t any crazy detail but the constancy of quality and longevity he had. A lot of artists have about a 5 to 15 year window of their best work—  I think Moebius made his best work from the 70′s until his death.

There’s certainly artists that make things seem more difficult through their work. Shirow’s layouts are on another level. kim jung gi and Terada make sketchbooks feel like the Olympics.

The little bit I worked on movies made me not enjoy them as much, but that’s because the process seems less fun. The process in comics is part of what I love about it. Listening to audio books while drawing things that crack me up. I even like scanning— maybe because it feels like working but isn’t

In the end Moebius was Moebius and we all just have to carve our own spaces in our work. I don’t worry about it, I can only do what I do, the work is in making sure that it is fun.
