Bestseller Nr. 1
Bei Amazon war "Die Vergessenen Astronauten" gestern als "Bestseller Nr. 1" in der Abteilung "Luft- und Raumfahrt" ausgewiesen - vor Felix Baumgartner auf Platz 4! Heute hat es mit Baumgartners Buch die Plätze getauscht. Wie hast du das denn gemacht, Felix? *grins*
Yesterday, the German edition of "The Forgotten Astronauts" was "bestseller no. 1" in Amazon's "Aviation & Spaceflight" section - surpassing the book of Austrian parachute-jumper Felix Baumgartner on rank 4. Today, the order of both books was reversed. How did you do that, Felix? *g*

Der Romanike-Zyklus nun bei Codex Regius - The Romanike Series is now a daughter of Codex Regius
Unsere beiden Schwesterblogs www.corpus-sacrum.de und www.opus-gemini.de sind nun bei Codex Regius untergeschlüpft. Die soeben erschienenen englischsprachigen Druckausgaben beider Hälften des Romanike-Zyklus laufen nun offiziell unter der Codex-Regius-Marke als Pseudonym und Verlag. Das drückt sich auch auf den neuen Umschlagbildern aus.
Bleibt, Amazon zu überzeugen, dass es "Corpus Sacrum" heißt und nicht "Corpvs ..."

Die Vergessenen Astronauten in Farbe
Seit dem 45. Jahrestag von Apollo 11 hat der Verkauf dieser kleinen Broschüre stark angezogen. Ich habe deshalb heute eine mehrfarbige Sonderausgabe der "Vergessenen Astronauten" zum Druck bei Createspace freigegeben. Der Preis ist entsprechend höher - dafür kann ich nichts: Createspace setzt bei der Preisgestaltung einen Mindestbetrag an, der die Druckkosten deckt und wahrscheinlich auch eine Gewinnmarge enthält -, aber wie ich mich anhand der "Horsemen of Mars" überzeugen konnte, ist die Druckqualität auch erheblich besser. Die alte Schwarzweißausgabe bleibt aber auch weiterhin erhältlich!
Die erfolgreiche Ankunft der Marssonden Maven und MOM werden wir auf unsere Art feiern: Freut euch auf die erweiterte deutsche Ausgabe der "Reiter des Mars" mit voller Farbbebilderung im Herbst 2014!

Zum 45. Jahrestag von Apollo 11 - About the 45th anniversary of Apollo 11
In diesen Tagen, da wir das 45. Jubiläum der ersten Mondlandung von Neill Armstrong und Edwin/Buzz Aldrin begehen, kommt die Frage wieder hoch, ob wir, die das Ereignis live am Fernsehschirm erlebt haben - ich war damals 4 Jahre alt und bin damit wohl einer der jüngsten Menschen auf der Welt, die sich noch an die nachmitternächtliche Übertragung erinnern können -, auch noch die erste bemannte Marslandung erleben werden. Damals, um 1970, wurde sie für 1980 anvisiert. Und dann immer weiter nach hinten verschoben. Als wir 2000 "Die Reiter des Mars" erstmals in Druckausgabe veröffentlichten, gingen wir von einer Landung 2017 aus. Auch das erwies sich als viel zu optimistisch. Unsere Kernaussage von damals gilt allerdings unverändert: Wir brauchen Menschen auf dem Mars, denn unsere Hände, unsere Hirne können unendlich Vieles dort erreichen, was Roboter auf kleinen Rädern nicht zuwege bringen.
Der 45. Jahrestag sollte uns aber auch innehalten und noch einmal der "Vergessenen Astronauten" gedenken lassen, die sich hoffnungsvoll den härtesten Auswahl- und Trainingsverfahren auf dem Weg zum Mond unterzogen, ausgewählt wurden, doch ihn nie erreichten. Elliot See, Charles Bassett und ihre gescheiterten Kollegen wurden unverdient von der Geschichte übergangen, die nur den Triumph von Armstrong und Aldrin feiern wollte. Sie sollten nicht wieder vergessen werden.
These days, as we commemorate the 45th anniversary of the first moon landing by Neil Armstrong and Edwin/Buzz Aldrin, the question pops up again whether we who have seen the event live on the telly - I was then 4 years old and may be one of the youngest on earth who have a vivid memory of the broadcast long after midnight CET - will also yet witness the first manned landing on Mars. At that time, around 1970, it was targeted for 1980. And then postponed. And postponed again. And again. When we published the first printed edition of "Horsemen of Mars" in 2000, we assumed a landing date in 2017. Even that proved to be far too optimistic. Our main statement of the time, however, applies unchanged: we need humans on Mars, because our hands, our minds can achieve infinitely many things there that are beyond the scope of robots on small wheels.
But at this 45th anniversary, we should also stop for a moment and commemorate as well the "Forgotten Astronauts" again who full of hope underwent the hardest selection and training procedures on the way to the moon, and they were selected, and never reached it. Elliot See, Charles Bassett and their failed colleagues were undeservedly ignored by history that only wanted to celebrate the triumph of Armstrong and Aldrin. They should not be forgotten again.

Apollo 11 - Live im deutschen Radio - Live on German radio
Ich habe heute drei Videosequenzen hochgeladen, die seltene Tondokumente von Apollo 11 enthalten. Mein Vater ließ damals am Radio ein Tonband mitlaufen, während wir die Mondmission im Fernsehen sahen, und zeichnete Teile der Übertragungen des Südwestfunks und von RIAS Berlin auf. Seine Bandaufzeichnung von 1969 ist durch Umkopieren und späteres Digitalisieren nahezu vollständig erhalten. Da ich diese Mitschnitte weder auf Youtube, Dailymotion noch den Webseiten der betreffenden Radiosender entdecken konnte, stelle ich sie hiermit zu Informationszwecken kostenlos zur Verfügung:

I uploaded three video files today that contain rare audio documents of Apollo 11. My father taped the radio while we were watching the lunar landing mission on TV and recorded some transmissions of the German radio channels Südwestfunk and RIAS Berlin. Thanks to later copying and digitalisation, his recording of 1969 is almost completely preserved. Since I could not discover these recordings on Youtube, Dailymotion or the websites of the relevant radio stations, I provide them here for educational purposes.

Word of God
Die anhaltend guten Verkaufszahlen unserer kleinen Broschüre "Die Vergessenen Astronauten", "The Forgotten Astronauts" haben mich bewogen, nun noch eine Ausgabe mit Farbbildern anzubieten (vorerst auf Englisch, Deutsch folgt demnächst!) Sie hat zur besseren Unterscheidung ein neues Umschlagsbild und ein geändertes Layout sowie ein neues Vorwort. Dazu kommen zwei Bilder, die es in der Schwarzweißversion nicht gibt.Ein Leser fragte, wer eigentlich Dr. Gravelines Rausschmiss aus dem Astronautenteam betrieben habe. Bisher kann ich nur dazu sagen, dass das ein hohes Tier bei der NASA oder in Washington gewesen sein muss. Damals hatten Astronauten nun mal glücklich verheiratet mit süßen kleinen Kinderlein zu sein.

It includes a few minor error corrections in the texts, an altered layout, a new cover and a new preface, plus two additional images not found in the b/w version!Someone asked for the nature of "Word of God" who insisted on Dr Graveline's quick expulsion from the astronaut team. Well, for the time being I cannot tell more about it than that this was either someone high up in NASA or in the Washington administration. At that time, astronauts had to be happily married with cute little children, you know.
