| Amusing, but much too close to the things that it is parodying. | |

"A Blast from the Past
Number me among the many who read this book in grade school back in the late 60's or 70's and the name stuck with me through the years. Later as an adult, I returned to this book to read it anew and experience the magic again. Yes," Read more of this review » |

Classic adventure tale, page turner with plenty of thrills and excitement. BBC Sunday evening fare, though a little moralistic it bears up Surprisingly well. |

Pure gruesome fun. Bleeding-edge technology satire meets alien horror in a Vantablack-dark comedy. A self-obsessed trillionaire tech bro (interests include AI, space travel and self-driving cars) faces a momentous decision when an emissary from an ali ...more |

| An unusual and impeccably British take on the afterlife. | |

Solid 1920 ripping yarn , racist from end to end. The solid ex-military hero treking to find a lost city of white men in the Gobi desert (against the resistance of the evil Chinese) is fairly stock; he can beat any four Asians in a fist fight as a mat ...more |

answered a question about
The Ghost:
Pretty much all of them. Some so bad I wanted to throw the book across the room (the bit where the deceased ghostwriter leaves a pointless 'clue' in chapter heading for no earthly reason) |

“There is a story about a traveller chased by a tiger to the edge of an abyss. The man took hold of a vine and started to climb down when he saw an angry dragon at the bottom of the abyss, and when he looked up, the tiger was lashing its tail above. As he hung on, a mouse started to gnaw away at the vine he was clinging to. The man was ready for death when he noticed a wild strawberry growing next to him, so he plucked it. It was the sweetest he had ever tasted.”

“...magic is madness. That's almost the definition of it. The ordinary mind, the sane mind, revolts at the thought of doing the impossible...”
