Serling Day Can Never Come Too Early....

As long time readers of this blog know, I've been suggesting Serling Day (on December 25th) as a way to avoid some of the more obnoxious aspects of the holiday.

So as we see Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations up for sale...you don't have to worry about Serling Day. Inspired by this recent article on Serling and screenwriting, here are some great videos of Serling discussing the art of writing.

(The entire series is worth watching on YouTube. You'll thank me later)

Your CHICAGO TARDIS Charity Auction Motivational Post

Well, now that the web site's been updated, here's the post that everyone's been waiting for...

....the official let's-kick-off-the- Chicago-TARDIS -charity-auction blog post.

Every year, I organize a charity auction at the largest Doctor Who convention in the midwest to benefit Northern Illinois Food Bank. Although we do hold a food drive, the bulk of our efforts go towards raising funds for the Food Bank, which serves organizations in the western suburbs.

How can you support us? Here are a few i...

On STAR TREK'S 50th Anniversary

I'll be honest, I'm having a bit of a hard time with this, but not for the reasons you may think.

Fifty years ago today, Star Trek made its television debut. It's a show that I literally grew up with...and which was the only other thing (besides Sherlock Holmes) that bound us.

Late yesterday, I was asked to appear on WBEZ's Morning Shift to discuss life lessons from Star Trek on its 50th anniversary. (You can listen - and watch a nice video recap - via this link). Although it fel...

UPDATE: DOCTOR WHO: Power of the Daleks Brouhaha

Remember, a few days ago, when I wrote on this very blog:
First, let me just say - I am hoping I'm wrong. If I'm proven wrong, and we do get a fully animated (or even recovered episodes plus animated reconstructions) of Doctor Who: Power of the Daleks, I will gladly eat crow.
(I hear it's especially tasty on rye bread with mustard)
Well, I'm taking recipe suggestions for crow, based on both this press item from BBC America and this trailer:

Never have I been more pleased to be wrong in my...

The Doctor Who POWER OF THE DALEKS Brouhaha

Copyright BBC WorldwideTo think that this all began with a YouTube upload.
About two weeks ago, a YouTube user uploaded a file they titled Power of the Daleks - Mystery Animation. Yes, I watched it before it was pulled for ownership reasons. (Screencaps are from various other YouTube users, and if asked, I will pull them from this post).
The animation was intriguing - two minutes from episode three I believe, much of it heavily rotoscoped based on existing telesnaps and footage. (Unfortun...

Tonight's Nightmare Fuel

This 1990s-era Canadian public service announcement....scares me.

Seriously.

(Although cold beet soup is rather awesome)

Finally Saw BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE on DVD....

You would think that a premise like this wouldn't be easy to mess up, but somehow, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is one of the messiest, most frustrating movies released this year.

Sad thing is, beneath it all, there are some underlying ideas that would make Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice a truly great movie.

Note: I saw the "regular" version and not the Expanded 3 Hour Version. It's what the Chicago Public Library had available, and I wasn't going to complain. Plus,...

Happy Birthday, Jack Kirby!

Yes, the King himself would have been 99 today.

And if he saw what was going on....I'm not sure he'd approve.

Enjoy these graphics from past posts....and catch all of you later.

Your Friday Online Wrap-Up

Transitions, transitions....most of my time has been spent writing, searching for freelance work (followed up on some leads, but if you know someone who might hire me, check me out on Linked In). But that hasn't kept me from keeping busy...or making changes....

As you may be aware, I've stepped down from the board of the Chicago Nerd Social Club. Much of it is due to personal commitments (mostly Mom), but in all honesty - it was time for me to step down. After five years of service, sometimes...
