Help An Author Out - Read and Review My Work

As many of you know, I have been quite prolific in writing tons of pulp fiction - so much so that not only do I have my own Amazon Author's page, but one of my stories was published within the past few weeks. But like many authors, I'm also responsible for marketing my work, and want to generate some buzz...and here's where I'm asking for your help.

It's simple: I'm asking that, if you are willing, to review any (or all) of my work online. Whether it's a blog post or an Amazon review, I would...

Mondays With Columbo: CANDIDATE FOR CRIME

Columbo  episodes work best through a variety of factors: a seemingly simple murder that has a major, unseen complication; opportunities for Columbo to interact in a world not his own; and most importantly, an engaging antagonist - one who can be either charming yet arrogant (like Jack Cassidy); willing to attempt some psychological manipulation (like Robert Culp); or have some sense of likability (like Clive Revill)

Columbo: Season 3's [image error] Candidate for Crime is one of the lesser...

Review: DOC SAVAGE - THE SINISTER SHADOW

Crossover and team-up books are standard in comics. It makes a certain amount of sense: having brightly colored heroes team up to take on large threats make really good illustrations. Making a similar team-up work in a pulp/prose format...might be trickier.

Doc Savage: The Sinister Shadow[image error] (available in softcover and Kindle) combines two of the best-known pulp characters in a really great novel....and which exceeds Dynamite Entertainment's Justice, Inc. comic from a few years back.

Now...

Happening Ten Years Time Ago

SojourninSTL-35 This was where I lived in St. Louis. Pretty cool, huh? Funny how the smallest things can lead to greater insights.

This past weekend, I spent some time in my yearly clean-up/organizing efforts - going through papers, tearing up and prepping for recycling, when I came across some old papers from my last job in St. Louis.

Ten years ago.

Ten years ago, I was working for a local nonprofit - a settlement house. (I'm not going to name names because...well, this post will be rather inflammatory, a...

Where Stories Come From: PULPTERNATIVE - Cowboy of the Dakotas

I'm a sucker for alternative history stories - everything from Harry Turtledove's How Few Remain [image error] to What If? series. Maybe it's all the Doctor Who I watched throughout my life, so when the chance came to write my own alternative history story for Pro Se's Pulpternative anthology, well....

...this was during my own dark night of the soul in 2013. So any effort I could make to escape my own existence - even through writing - would be worth it. (It also helped that this was only the thi...

Mondays With Columbo: BY DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT/IDENTITY CRISIS

Hard to believe that I haven't written a Columbo-themed blog post since late March....but now is a great time to make up for it. In the spirit of the Fourth of July, I thought I would review not one, but two Columbo episodes with similar themes (and that, in a strange way, relate to today's holiday) for our semi-regular Mondays with Columbo

(They're also notable for both featuring Patrick McGoohan, but I'm not sure that's coincidental)

Television in the late 1960s/early 1970s holds...

If It's Sunday, It Must Be a Blogaround

Well, things are perking up this Fourth of July weekend - I'm gearing up for a one week work assignment while putting another freelance project on hold; working on finishing a comic script and will be starting a short story due in August for later publication....

....not complaining, mind you, but things are keeping me active.

However, I'm not so busy as to avoid my usual monthly summary of other Internet goings on, mostly in an effort to keep my search rankings clean and, more importantly, pro...
