Today's Van Villiams/GREEN HORNET Tribute

Unlike other fandoms, I came to appreciate the Green Hornet as a young adult. My official entry was via Now Comics in the 1990s (thanks, Ron!), then a boxed set of cassettes of the original radio shows...and then, finally, a local television station playing the 1960's series with Van Williams.

In light of Mr. Williams' passing, I thought it might be good to not only talk about his work...but show you. His performance as Britt Reid/the Green Hornet is almost pitch-perfect: it never seems tongue...

Catching Up From the Past Month

DSCN1353

I have to admit, I'm only now starting to recover from the past month's activities. I'm proud to say that last weekend's charity auction at Chicago TARDIS raised over $2,400 - despite lower attendance than previous years, that is a really impressive number. I couldn't have done it without the help of many of my fellow staffers, and the generosity of so many people...

...and it's something that keeps me from being totally cynical about the current political situation. Thankfully, I'm doing some...

Review: Steve Bellinger's THE CHRONOCAR

[image error] [image error]
(Note: this review originally appeared in Goodreads; a complimentary copy was provided for review)

To be honest, I started The Chronocar [image error] shortly before the election...and couldn't quite get into it. Traveling back and forth downtown the next day I managed to read it through both trips on the Midway Orange Line.

Steve Bellinger's The Chronocar[image error] is a really good, brisk science fiction novel about time travel...but its focus is on the African-American experience. When Tony, a student at IIT, disco...

Moving Towards OK

I know, I know....yes, it happened. And things are not all right.

Not since November 8th.

And it's not just the I-think-the-wrong-guy-got-in mentality, it's the gloating. And the flat-out hostility.

(Thankfully, Bully did a great job of posting both the negative and positive).

And yes, I have a dog in this fight - I've been one of those "hidden Americans" who has been struggling day-to-day. I've felt disempowered, but with Trump's election...it feels even more so.

But in the words of a great song...

Today's Motivational Song of the Moment

As some of the dust clears workwise (settling into small scale projects and Chicago TARDIS planning), this is the one song that's consistently playing in my household...and yes, you can guess the reason why...

My Reaction To Last Night's Election Results

(Originally posted on Facebook)

First, I am just as saddened and downhearted as many others about the election results. Yes, the people have spoken...but they've spoken out of fear of the "other."

And I apologize. Because somebody has to.

So for those of you who are the "other" - in terms of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, or many of the "other" categories who are feeling unsure....I will work harder to be a better ally.

Because again, somebody has to.

And to paraphrase one of my f...

Taking A Breather from Blogging.....

With all that's happening in my life (and things only getting more critical), I need to step back and take a breather.

Normally, this time of year I'm gearing up for NaBloPoMo....but right now, I need to take care of myself and follow advice I was given in my younger days:

You can have anything you want, you just can't have everything you want.

So at this point, I'm stepping away from this blog for awhile....

No, I'm not ending it. Nor am I threatening to quit - I just want one less thing to worr...

Caregiver, Care for Thyself!

Sunrise - 61st & Pulaski 01
So far, October has not been a good month.

As many of you know, I've been working towards building a small freelance practice. I had even gone to the point of getting small business consulting in order to refine my business skills. But then, several things happened.

One was that Mom had been in and out of the hospital for various issues. That meant setting the work search aside to take care of matters. My small business counselor seemed focused more on having me go through pointless exerci...

More Good Reasons for An Animated DOOM PATROL....

Things have been busy (will write more later this week), but for now, a follow-up to a past Doom Patrol post....

(No, I'm not forgetting any....there are only three videos in the series. Blame DC for wonky numbering)++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
