My poem ‘The toys of Chitrakoot’ featured in Stand (editor – Vahni Capildeo)

My poem ‘The toys of Chitrakoot’ features in Stand – the ecopoetics issue edited by Vahni Capildeo.

A memorable Diwali gift along with Vahni’s words of encouragement, to be cherished forever –

“These (poems) are stunning and it is so kind of you to let me read them for Stand. I wish we could publish them all. It’s truly been an honour to read your work. Your poems really are outstanding and we are lucky to have one for Stand.”

I like my mood swings from regional to international. Poetry seems to be imperceptible, as it permeates the blood-brain barrier of languages and geographies. The wild anarchy of this form.

My poem ‘Disquiet’ in Marathi, published in Ranangan!

My lamp is literature, so my Diwali is all about a poem ‘Disquiet’ from Four Degrees of Separation, that got aptly translated to Marathi by the ever-perceptive Sanket Mhatre.

This poem read in two languages at an effervescent gathering of Marathi poetry, which also happened to be celebrated poet Arun Mhatre’s birthday.

I am stoked with hangovers of this immersive evening in Upvan, listening to rich Marathi poetry, poem-songs and stories-before-poems, holding Ranangan.

Wishing you all a very Happy Diwali with your lamps of love, light, literature, and laughter!

Poetry at Rudyard Kipling’s house/ Sir J J Institute of Applied Art

In the leafy alcove of the courtyard of Rudyard Kipling’s house (Dean’s Bungalow) we immersed into reading, listening and viewing of strong and tender poems by Ulrike Almut Sandig in German, then its Hindi, Marathi and English translations, with poetry films interspersing.

Thanks to Jayashree Hari Joshi, Ila Joshi, Santosh Kshirsagar and Sanket Mhatre – dynamic curator this evening was a series of delight from the place, its environs, poems & their placement and the audience & students of the Sir J J Institute of Applied Art. Thank you!

The spirit of literature is inclusiveness.

My book review of Harekrishna Deka’s book (Indian Literature)

Glad to receive my copy of Sahitya Akademy’s Indian Literature and find my book review of ‘One Hundred Poems of Harekrishna Deka’ (Assamese, translated by Sadiqul Islam).

Read. Comment.

The journal smelled like a June Hindi textbook with rich prose and difficult words.

[And then a mango from Philippines told me of jagged seasons of Earth.]

A time-zoned/traveled mango.
