“Drakon’s Prize” by Moira Callahan
Being the Alpha of a misfit clan of Dragons comes with its share of troubles. When the supernatural Council comes to Drakon Blackwood with yet another false claim against his clan he knows it’s time to make someone pay. Preferably with their life.
Allegra Hanson doesn’t work for the Council, and yet she’s been roped into assisting them in their investigation into the Blackwood clan’s supposed activities. Against her better judgment she goes to the clan’s lands to do what she can. What she never planned on was her visceral reaction to the Alpha.
The Blackwood clan land is valuable. Not for its location, but for what lies beneath the earth’s surface. Many will do anything to get it, one will stop at nothing, and is willing to kill Drakon’s woman to get it. Allegra is his, and there’s no way Drakon will lose the most precious prize of all.
“Tiger’s Mate” by April Zyon
Streak politics, and differences in opinions forced Kurt Owens to choose his own path. While it may be outside of the law in many regards he sees it as ensuring justice for the true victims of crimes when the system fails them. It’s his way of seeing the guilty pay, and keeping his own inner beast in check with the violence, and blood it craves.
Everyone thinks having a super power would be great. Alexa Harold would beg to differ. She’s been cursed to see ghosts, the dead not yet having gone to their final resting place, or judgment, or wherever they belong. They track her down, and harass her until she’s ready to go mad. Learning early in life what she needs to avoid has been the only saving grace in keeping her sanity intact.
Then she sees a man who couldn’t possibly be real. It was just her luck that such a prime specimen would in fact be deceased. Only he isn’t, and he’s taking notice of her. With a little temptation, some mystery, and a taunt he leaves her wanting more.
Kurt never thought he’d find his mate outside of the streak, or streak functions. While those of a supernatural inclination aren’t exactly rare, they have had to be careful and keep their population down. Alexa is the woman for him the only one he could ever want or need. And when her life is put in danger by his own past Kurt won’t stop until everyone understands to get to this tiger’s mate, they’ll have to get through him.
“Dark Heart” by Elyzabeth M. VaLey
The world is changing. Vampires are coming out and they’re not remotely similar to the sensual Hollywood portrait made of them. Little by little, Shifters are being unmasked and integration is waning. Panic is spreading. The government is losing control. Private agencies, such as SOA struggle to find a solution, but as the darkness grows, can one even exist?
Ten years ago, Daryl Jones lost his pack to a group of demon vampires. Since then, he not only lost his will to battle for good, his life has become a spiral of drinking, fighting and fucking anything in sight. In his opinion, a pretty perfect existence. Until, he meets the new SOA representative sent to convince him to go back to the lab. With mile long legs, a tight little ass and a smile to kill for, when she offers him a bargain, how can he possibly refuse?
Silvia Adams, has one mission: convince Daryl Jones to work for SOA again. The agency needs him to get back into the lab and help develop a serum to neutralize the growing number of vampires. She knew it wouldn’t be easy task, but with her job on the line, she’ll do anything it takes, including, bargaining with the shifter and surrendering to her deepest desires. Only problem is, she might have bartered for more than she can handle.
“Resisting His Mate” by Lynn Burke
Warrick Keaton eludes a forced pairing with one of his kind. No one is going to choose his mate for him, not when he wants nothing to do with being tied down to a woman. He never expects fate to intervene in the form of a freezing, barely alive female. With his independence in jeopardy, Warrick fights his inner hawk’s desire to stake a claim on her.
Clare Byron longs to escape her domineering ex-husband, a jealous bear shifter determined to keep her prisoner. She seizes the opportunity to run and lands in the arms of another alpha—exactly what she doesn’t want or need.
For Warrick, Clare is everything he’s ever wanted in a mate and all that he’s run from.
For Clare, Warrick is freedom in a way she never dreamed possible—the one man who will own her heart yet give her wings to fly.
“Alpha’s Vixen” by Jocelyn Dex
Dax is overwhelmed by desire when he catches the white fox trespassing on his land, and that totally pisses him off. He refuses to mate, no matter how much the fox inside him wants it, Dax definitely does not.
Opal is instantly enamored with the menacing black fox, but isn’t surprised when he chases her away—no one ever wants her, the freak-of-nature albino.
When theft and violence bring them together again, will they give in to passion, or will their hang-ups force them apart?
“Always Midnight” by Ashlynn Monroe
Taryne Michael is all her younger brother Travys has ever had for stability. When fifteen-year-old Trav doesn’t come home after he fights with her she spends the next week searching for him. He finally comes home he’s not the same boy who slammed the door the night he left. Something is very wrong and when she discovers he’s been transformed into a werewolf she’s at a loss as to what to do. The violent, angry boy isn’t the little brother she knows how to deal with. Teenage hormones are nothing compared to the animalistic young man emerging from the boy she’d raised.
Ax Greyson is a lone wolf, an alpha without a pack. He enforces laws non-shifters don’t know about. Celo Valley, is a place where two species co-reside. The werewolves keep the humans blind to their existence by being careful. Someone isn’t following the rules. Someone is killing, with no regard for secrets. When killing the woman seems like the only way to keep his people’s secret until Ax’s instincts find another way.
Mate…the word is the only thing that can scare a man like Ax.
“Becoming His Mate” by Harper Shaddock

The mating bond cannot be denied, no matter what the consequences, and they might well kill.
“Discarded Pup” by Angelique Voisen
Betrayed by his beta and abandoned by his pack, Cole Reyes wasted the last ten years of his life rotting behind bars. A cage is no place for a wolf, and wounds left open, fester. Cole has zero tolerance for mercy. The time Cole spent in prison didn’t just bleed out all the decency he once possessed. It broke him. Made him hard and unforgiving. Cole’s vengeance starts now, beginning with his beta’s new toy.
“Yellow Eyes” by Gale Stanley
The brutal war between shifters and humans is over, but each side still sees the other as a threat. The only thing they can agree on, is that they can’t agree. Humans live east of the bridge, shifters live west. Camden is a halfbreed, the product of a rape that happened during the war. Neither side wants him, but he lives with his human mother. The night she dies, Camden goes west looking for revenge. He knows he won’t find his father, and he’ll probably get himself killed, but he doesn’t care. As long as he takes a shifter with him, he’ll die happy.
Wyat is alpha of the pack living in the west. He’s a warrior who believes in separation of the races. Then on the night of the full moon, he discovers a half-breed hiding in the alley. The man’s scent makes him burn with lust, and against his better judgement, he takes him home—and discovers that sleeping with the enemy might just lead to a better future.
“Destined” by L.D. Blakeley
Caleb Stokes has had a shit night. Too bad catching his boyfriend in flagrante delicto with the club DJ isn’t the worst thing he’ll witness before the night is through. Marick Gevrees has no time for romance. He has even less time for a tipsy twink looking for a man to fill some Daddy fetish. But what the hell is he supposed to do when said twink wanders headlong into the middle of a bloody vendetta that could result in the exposure of his clan?
“Trouble” by James Cox
Tremarc is sleeping his way through the entire Bear Shifter Clan. He’s sent to the moon, under the colonized dome to stay out of trouble. When he meets sexy alpha Lyon and his mated human, Quinn his life takes a sharp turn that may just find him his happy ending or get him kicked out of yet another bear shifter clan.
“Outlaw Wolf” by Elizabeth Monvey
Dekker ran away from his pack in an order to protect his lover and Alpha, Grey, when he overheard two higher ranked wolves talk about killing him.
When Grey finds him six months later, Dekker tries to convince the man he loves to go away. But Grey won’t take no and as the two talk it out, their mutual attraction overwhelms them.
In desperation, Dekker renounces Grey as his Alpha. But when another force tries to punish Dekker by silencing him forever, Grey must choose which stand he’ll take…being the alpha for all his pack, or being the man Dekker needs, even if it means breaking the rules.

Porter Brothers Trilogy #1
Jamie Begley
Releasing Fall 2015
Young Ink Press

The Porter
Brother’s were raised to live and die by Three Rules
One, a Porter stands his ground
Two, a Porter leaves no enemy standing
Three…
Sutton Creech was a cheat and a liar. Tate Porter had found that
out when he was eighteen, and he had no intention of letting her make a fool
out of him again. He didn’t care how much pain he saw in her eyes or how old
memories tugged at his unforgiving heart until, the night a hidden secret is
revealed and everything Tate had believed about their past is shattered,
proving he had let the woman he loved get away.
Between trying to protect his family and running their pot growing
business, Tate doesn’t have time to play the “Nice Guy”. He’d just
have to remember the most important rule his father had given them: A
Porter always keeps what’s his.

“I
was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their
way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever
known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and
education.
Taking
after my mother, I’ve always love to cook, and became pretty good if I do say
so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through
many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love
the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.
For
now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children who
both graduated this year from college. My daughter does my book covers, and my
son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.
Currently
I am writing five series of books- The Last Riders, The VIP Room, Predators MC,
Biker Bitches, and The Dark Souls.
All
my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and
the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.”

Zed, The Next Dovetail Cove Novel by Jason McIntyre & Giveaway
Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Zed by Jason McIntyre!
It’s the waning dog days of August, 1975 and Tom Mason’s in Dovetail Cove for the last few weeks of his summer job at the group home. His boss and the home’s owner is Karen Banatyne, one of the wealthiest folks in town. It seems like she’s got it in for Tom; she’s the only one standing in his way as he scrimps for a new camera.
But Karen has her own problems. A regulatory agency might cut off her funding, plus her hubby hasn’t been seen in a few weeks, and she’s not saying why. Most ominous of all, it seems as though something’s hiding in the hot spring north of the main beach and one of Karen’s ‘houseguests’ is about to come face to face with evil. Tom is too.
Author Interview
What has inspired you to become a writer?
Inspiration to tell stories came early. I was the kid in the fourth and fifth grade sneakily reading Stephen King novels at 800 pages apiece behind my propped-up math text book. At eight, I was the editor of a short-lived school paper and we didn’t have enough content to fill the back page. I went home and hauled out my Mom’s old IBM typewriter to begin an epic serial about two young girls who are abducted by aliens in their backyard. I knew I had something when the other kids begged to know what would happen in part two. Alas, the teacher who managed the newspaper project got a transfer and part two of the saga never made it out. I guess, in a way, I’ve been writing towards the end of that tale ever since.
How do you come up with your characters and how do you make them so interesting?
I start in a very visual way. Without even closing my eyes, I can clearly see what’s happening and, as I noodle around on the ‘what’ of a story, I eventually start to form a visceral view of the ‘who’ in the tale. The people inside that vision have to become real to me, even before I start the first sentence. If they don’t then I don’t care about them. I have to care, or else I never haul them out of trouble. And, really, isn’t that what makes fiction great? Dumping someone you care about into a heap of worry and then methodically traipsing them out of said trouble in a believable and satisfying way.
My biggest conundrum is when a dazzling or lovely person gets in a trap and they aren’t pulled out in time. It’s the biggest challenge for me — I can’t save everyone and, sometimes, a character I adore needs to die so that things keep chugging for the whole story. Forgive me, readers. I will kill again.
What makes your stories and books different than other books you have read? Everyone has their own style, what is yours?
I mix and match genres, influences and types of stories. One major thrust of my writing life is to never repeat the same kind of book twice. I want to push myself to unearth new and different pieces of myself as I tell stories. So while a book like ZED has companion books that have a flow between them, there are nearly a dozen different genres represented among them. One might be a coming-of-age paranormal while the next might be a murder mystery and then I may discover that the next works best as a straight-ahead horror. There’s noir and crime books and even a western. Now, do they all look exactly like their home genres suggest? Not at a glance. They use the tropes from each genre but usually in a new mix. They meld into something that, I guess, looks and reads like a Jason McIntyre novel. Hopefully, readers enjoy the journey through all the different places I like to play. Oh, and I hope they get scared and a little upset along the way.
Do you plan on writing any other genres?
Future genres include something that no one who’s read my work will believe. I want to write a romance novel and a deeply historical fiction that is true to an extremely ancient time period. As always, I want to have fun with what I write, and produce something unique that interests readers, but pushes me into new territory.
Anything else you would like to discuss about you as a writer?
ZED is part of a mosaic novel. The only other writer I know who’s written this kind of a work is George RR Martin. His mosaic comprised of books written by a dozen different writers all working within one world and telling stories about the same characters.
DOVETAIL COVE works in a similar way. The characters flow in an out of the background of several books and the island setting is the same place, spanning a decade in the history of one place that has a succulent past and a lurid present. The difference between Martin’s mosaic and this one is that I’m writing all the pieces myself. Each DOVETAIL book stands on its own, with a distinct beginning, middle and end. But if you read more of them, the pieces of a much larger puzzle begin to fall into place. At present, ZED marks the fourth of ten books to be released. Others available now are BLED, SHED and DREAD. Look for new ones in 2015 and 2016.
Getting to Know the Author as a Person
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I travel as much as I can and spend time with my crazy kiddos. Readers and friends from social media will likely remember all the posts about the nutty things my kids say. I won’t even mention my wife here. She has her own cult following among my Facebook and Twitter feeds.
I have built a lovely studio in my home and use it to write music, paint when I’m able and, yes, nap profusely when the spirit is not moving me otherwise.
What relaxes you when you need to unwind?
Creation of every sort is about the most relaxing thing I can imagine doing. I adore many forms of music and art and, when I’m in the middle of drafting a new book, it’s the greatest escape from life’s stresses. I peel back the page and transport to an entirely new place as I write. The process of uncovering a story is food for my soul.
What are your favorite foods?
I have always loved to travel and try new experiences and dishes wherever I go. Lately, I’ve been on a jag for Eggs Benedict and have been trying that in as many countries and cities as I can. Now, of course, lots of places don’t have that so I’ve broadened it to ordering eggs prepared in whatever style is most prevalent in the place I’m visiting. It’s really interesting to discover the different cooking methods — not to mention the different kinds of birds’ and lizards’ eggs that have been brought to my table!
Have you ever had any paranormal experiences?
I’ve had what I call ‘inconclusive’ paranormal experiences. Things have happened that, even after intense scrutiny, a rational person might not be able to form a judgment as to whether it was explicable by science or by para-science. Rest assured, all strangeness in my world (paranormal or just odd and intriguing) eventually finds its way into a story or two. Writing, I’ve discovered, has really become my own form of torture, er, I mean self-therapy. I write to understand the events of the world, of people and of my own life.
Tell us anything you would like your readers to know about Jason McIntyre.
I once shared a bottle of expensive red wine with a homeless man. The throat infection I developed the following week nearly put me in the hospital and my health insurance had lapsed so I couldn’t get a scrip for antibiotics. I went through six tubes of topical Polysporin. Yep, I gargled the stuff five times a day until I could see straight again.
Character Interview
Record: 1974-03452
Subject: Zeke
Date: August 31, 1974
Type: psychological assessment
Method: audio cassette recording
Interviewer’s notes: Zeke seems to be of below average intelligence. My understanding is that he’ll be given comprehensive intelligence and psychological tests upon admittance to a local group home care facility. – CF
Zeke, can you tell me how you feel about your family, now that you’re an adult?
I got me no memory of my Mama. My Daddy, he and I didn’t get along so good. Now we have some good times. He lets me work with him. Least he used to. Now that Chief Birkhead come and get me and start doing his talks with me, I don’t know. I might never do the work with my Daddy again. That might be sad.
What do you want from life?
To keep my truck, wash it, and have it nice fer always. I only got a me few scratches and I buffed them out. I’d like to find a purty lady who maybe doesn’t care that my thinker bottle is cracked and don’t work so good no more.
If you were granted three wishes, what would you ask for?
Like a genie in a bottle? I saw that on a tv show once. I Dream a Genie. Let’s see. A shiny bufferin’ machine. For my truck you know. A new poker stick so’s I can reach way down deep into the sewers. For when I’m on duty and the trash pick up on Main street.
And maybe, I dunno, maybe I’d like to take a train trip one day. I member going on the little loco-mota when I’s a boy. We got one on the island, you know. Lotsa people don’t know that but we do. It was fun. That big smoke stack going way up and making that big smoke in the air. It was fun and I’d like to get me on a train like that again.
What three things would you take to a Desert Island?
I dunno, I already live on an island. Dovetail Cove and a bit north of town is the only place I ever been. Hard question. Can I skip it?
In your relationship with others, how are you different with family than you are with friends? Why?
I ain’t never different with nobody. Same Zeke alla time. I hate when people give those fake smiles, you know? Or when they lie to you and you know they lyin but you can’t figure out what to say so that the lie is seen. Fakeness is hard. Same Zeke always. Scout’s honour.
How do you fall in love? At first sight? Over a long period?
Zeke, can you answer? How do you fall in love? Does it take a long time or happen all at once?
I bin in love a couple times you know. I like it when purty girls laugh. They sound so nice and when I make em laugh, that’s the best, you know. My Dad says I’m not supposed to talk about bein in love. Guys like Zeke, he says, guys like us, we don’t get to do that.
What parts of loving come easy for you? Hard?
Hard? Like you mean when dem girls do their laughing and my private parts get—
No. Kay. Nevermind. I like the talking parts but I’m not so good at them. Making purty girls feel safe – I can do that real good. Really, Mister, if you’re gonna keep asking about lovey-dovey stuff, you gots ta talk to my Dad. He says I’m not supposed to talk about this. I got in trouble a couple times now. Chief said.
and when I make em laugh, that’s the best, you know. My Dad says I’m not supposed to talk about bein in love. Guys like Zeke, he says, guys like us, we don’t get to do that.

How do you decide if you can trust someone? Experience with others? With this person? First impressions? Intuition? Do you test the person somehow? Or are you just generally disposed to trust or not to trust?
Trust? I don’t know. What do you mean, trust?
Oh, I don’t know Zeke, I guess I mean, how do you know someone isn’t lying to you?
I never really think about it. Don’t all Mommies and Daddies teach their little ones to tell the truth? Mine did. I always do. Everyone should.
When you walk into a room, what do you notice first? Second?
I was real good at re-doin floors. All kinds of floors. Tile and wood, polish and rug. I like to see how good a floor is and then I think about how I could do it better.
When you walk into a room, what do you expect people to notice about you?
Nobody should look at Zeke. My Daddy told me I ain’t supposed to look at nobody so maybe they shouldna look at me.
Describe yourself to me.
Me? I’m strong for my size. I can lift two of me, and I’m real good at looking after Main Street.
Did you turn out the way you expected? The way your parents predicted?
When I was a kid I got hurt real bad. My thinker took to leaking and I don’t imagine anyone knew I was gonna be like I am. But I can still get by. I do okay.
What really moves you, or touches you to the soul?
Daddy says we ain’t got no souls. But if I had to say, I’d tell you. Purty girls. When they laugh. That’s what touches Zeke’s soul.
What’s the one thing you have always wanted to do but didn’t/couldn’t/wouldn’t? What would happen if you did do it?
My Dad says I’m not supposed to say.
What do you consider are your strengths?
My arms. My back is pretty strong too.
What do you consider are your weaknesses?
Can’t lift much with my pinky fingers. Or my baby toes. They’re the weakest, I bet.
What is one physical attribute you are proud of?
Physical what? I told you about my nice truck, right?
What one physical attribute would you change?
What do you consider are your weaknesses?
Can’t lift much with my pinky fingers. Or my baby toes. They’re the weakest, I bet.
What is one physical attribute you are proud of?
Physical what? I told you about my nice truck, right?
What one physical attribute would you change?
I put two new tires on the back when I saved up enough. I’d change out the front ones if I could afford to.
What do you consider your special talent?
I always do what I say I’m gonna. No one has to guess. Zeke always comes through.
What do you wish your special talent was?
Maybe if I could patch up my thinker. I can see the words. I know what I’m supposed to do and say, but it pours out before the words come to my mouth. Maybe like sand. Or water. If I could patch up m’ thinker, tha’d be good.
What are you most proud of about your life?
You keep asking me that same questions! I told you about my truck, din’t I?
Is there anything you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t done? What would happen if you did it?
This question again. Where’s my Dad? Did he make you ask this one? Trine ta trick me, maybe.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? Why?
I have to go now, okay? I should get back to my job with the town.
Describe your ideal mate.
Please Mister. Can’t we just let Zeke go back to work now…?
maybe.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? Why?
I have to go now, okay? I should get back to my job with the town.
Describe your ideal mate.
Please Mister. Can’t we just let Zeke go back to work now…?
What are you most afraid of?
Okay. I can’t talk to you anymore. Kay?
Zeke, what’s the most important thing in your life? What do you value most?
Come on, Mister, please, you have to let me go back. I’m gonna get in trouble. I can’t do no more of your questions right now.
How do you feel about your life right now? What, if anything, would you like to change?
Pleeaaase! Let me go!

Everyone loves romance. Does he like me? Is it real? Or is he just a lady killer – or, in the world of mysteries, a killer? Putting a little sexual tension in our crime fiction just feels natural.
But when do we take it further?
I’m not talking about sex exactly. Because my books, like the new “Code Grey” (Severn House), are cozies, my characters may spend the night with a sweetheart, and since my heroine and her friends are contemporary college students they do. But what they do during that night remains off the page.
What I am wondering about is whether real romance – the long-lasting kind – has any place in series mysteries. After the first blush of indecision and uncertainty is done, does a relationship add anything to the reader experience?
I’m of two minds. Which works, because I currently have two mystery series going. In my Pru Marlowe pet noir books, the heroine Pru is a bit of a bad girl. She’s got an ongoing liaison with a local cop, but she keeps him at arm’s length emotionally. She’s got too many secrets, and he’s too much of a boy scout for her to ever let him get too close – and she enjoys some steamy flirtations with men from her past, as well.
Dulcie Schwartz, the heroine of “Code Grey,” the ninth in this feline-filled academic series, is on the other end of the spectrum. While in the first few books of the series, she wasn’t sure what to make of Chris, the tall and lanky computer programmer who seemed to like her, by now they’re happily living together. He’s not as available as she would like – he tends to work overnights in the computer lab, which has led her at times to wonder if he is even purely human (this series does have a touch of the paranormal). But when Dulcie found out Chris could also hear the voice of Mr. Grey, the feline ghost who looks out for her, she relaxed. Whether or not her boyfriend is human, he’s kind – and he’s the one for her. And just maybe readers will warm to this kind of steady ongoing romance as well.
Clea Simon is the author of 18 mysteries in the Theda Krakow, DulcieSchwartz, and Pru Marlowe pet noir series. The latter two are ongoingand include her most recent books, Code Grey (Severn House) and Kittens Can Kill (Poisoned Pen Press). Taking up the Art of Letter Writing
In the Kingdom of Ismera, the setting of our novel, Unintended, letters play an important role both in politics and in romance. Letter writing is considered an artform in Ismera, where games are played with words and letters are often used as a means to veil or clarify one’s meaning. Our protagonist, Kenzie en Shareed learns the Ismeran art of letter writing the hard way, but thankfully you don’t have to!
Supplies
For the complete experience you will need a quill, ink, some quality parchment or stationary, an envelope, wax, and a wax seal. We picked up our quills from our local Chapters bookstore, but you can order them online if you need to, or just use a nice fountain pen. For paper and ink, I suggest looking in a craft supply store. Wax and wax seal may be more difficult, but again you can find most things online. Optionally, you can also include scrap paper for your rough draft and stamps to send your letters to their recipients in the real world!
Location
You’ll need a desk or at the very least a table to work on. The kitchen table will do in a pinch, but try to find somewhere quiet where you can concentrate and where your work surface is large enough that you don’t risk tipping your inkwell over and making a mess of things. If you do happen to spill ink or get it on your hands, I’ve found that hand sanitizer does a great job of getting rid of the evidence.
The rough draft
Unlike typing on a computer, you can’t easily fix mistakes with ink and with a quill pen blots are easy to make. Take your time and try writing out a rough draft first so you can work out what you want to say and how you want to say it. In the end, if you have little mistakes or things you’ve crossed out that’s okay. It adds character to your letter! But be aware that an Ismeran reading your letter can attribute meaning to even the smallest of things, so make sure your finished product doesn’t contain any unintentional messages!
Perfecting your handwriting
Practice makes perfect, so don’t worry if your first few letters don’t look as elegant as you imagined they would. The best way to fix this problem is to write more letters! When working on Unintended, Murandy and I wrote dozens of letters to each other which not only helped us improve our penmanship, but also helped us get into character and into the setting.
The finishing touches
You’re almost ready to send your letter! This is where the envelope and wax seal come in. Since you’ve spent so much effort on making the contents of your letter look good, you’ll want to do the same with the packaging. Address your envelope first, then turn it over and seal it with melted wax. You really don’t need very much of it and you also don’t need to press really hard with the seal either. If you don’t have a wax seal, you can always close the letter with a sticker or decorate with stamp. Failing that, skip the envelope entirely, roll it like a scroll and tie with a ribbon… only in that case, I wouldn’t try sending it through the postal system.
Read an Excerpt:
The rolling hills and grasslands of Ismera were strange to her in the
beginning. Now, after nearly a month of riding through them, they had begun to
seem commonplace. What the High Clan Chief’s daughter was not prepared for,
however, were the high turrets of the palace she was headed towards and the
sprawling city of Ismer that surrounded it. Even more surprising than all that
was the fanfare that greeted her when at last she reached the city’s
high-walled gate.
A handsome man atop a white horse rode boldly out to greet her, without
so much as a weapon drawn or a friend to watch his back.
They are much more trusting here of strangers than they are back at
home, she noted. Unless, it’s only that they don’t consider me a stranger.
Mackenzie en Shareed of Haldoram straightened her back, instinctively
preparing herself to make a good impression. She felt her breath catch in her
throat as he came closer and she realized that the man before her, with his
sunny hair, tanned skin and bright blue eyes could be none other than the man
she’d ridden all the way here to marry. She felt her usually flawlessly tanned
skin flush an uncomfortable shade of red as she watched him dismount and walk
the rest of the way to her side, a wide grin spreading across his face at the sight
of her.
I didn’t expect him to be so handsome. Kenzie found that as
much as she might want to, she couldn’t deny the pounding of her heart or the
fluttering in her stomach. I’m very fortunate to be attracted to him so
easily.
If he took notice of her discomfort he didn’t show it, bowing over her
hand and kissing it lightly. “Princess Mackenzie, let me be the first to
welcome you to the City of Ismer.”
Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves, Kenzie reached for the marriage
bracelet she’d woven herself for this very occasion. Unhooking it carefully
from her belt, she caught his hand before he could take it away and swiftly
wrapped the small, white-flowered wreath about his wrist, tying it with a
practiced motion.
She could see in her husband-to-be’s eyes that he was confused, but she
didn’t have time to explain it to him now. That would come later, after they
were entwined together in their marriage bed. Right now, only the ritual
mattered.
I have to do this now, she affirmed silently. Once I enter this city of
theirs and am completely surrounded by Ismeran culture and politics it will be
too late to marry him in my own way, in front of my people and by our customs.
It’s the only way I will feel comfortable with his arrangement. I can marry him
in the Ismeran way afterwards.
The barest nod over her shoulder was enough to bring Seraphina over. Her
mentor and friend had accompanied her this far and now she played her part of
the wedding ceremony by bringing forth the wreath that Prince Kadrean would
place upon her head, sealing their arrangement and making them man and wife.
Aging Seraphina bowed before the Prince, despite the aching old bones
she always complained of, holding out the wreath before her in offering.
“Take it,” Seraphina urged him, her English much less accented than
Kenzie knew her own to be. “You must place it upon her head and say the words.”
Looking as confused as ever, the Prince took the woven white flowers and
did as instructed.
“What words, exactly?”
“I be bhur agus thu de agamsa,” Kenzie spoke in her native tongue,
making sure to properly enunciate each syllable so he could follow along.
“I be burr…” he began, trying his hardest to stumble through the words
that were foreign to him, “a Gus who de Gamsa.”
That’s good enough, I suppose… Kenzie frowned, regarding him. Though
I thought that being the heir to these lands, he would have some knowledge of
Gaelic.
“You may call me Kenzie,” she told him, dismissing her negative thoughts
with a smile, before leaning in to kiss him, as was customary.
Seraphina and the other clanspeople who’d made the journey with her
began to cheer, but their cheers were cut short when her new husband pulled
back from her in surprise. “Whoa! I don’t know what’s expected between two
strangers in the North, but here in the South it’s customary to save that kind
of greeting for your husband.”
“Yes?”
“Yes…” he agreed, searching her eyes as if to gauge how much of the
language she understood, “so I have a fiancée and you have a Prince who’s
waiting very anxiously to meet you up at the Palace.”
Kenzie suddenly felt ill and more than a little dizzy. “You are not
Prince Kadrean…?” The golden-haired stranger she’d just married wore a look of
concern mixed with confusion. “Then who are you?”
“Uh…” He cleared his throat, made a little uncomfortable by the stares
of the clanspeople. “Lord Garron D’Arbonne…at your service, Your Highness.”
An uncomfortable silence fell over them and the clansfolk, but Kenzie
couldn’t find it in her to break it or fill it with anything meaningful. Her
entire focus was on keeping herself from hyperventilating.
I just married this Garron D’Arbonne… Not the Prince; not my intended. Kenzie was in full
panic at the gravity of the error she had just committed. How can I fix
this?! The marriage bond is forever, never able to be undone… A man can
remarry, under certain circumstances, but can a woman? Would they even allow
such a thing?
My father will be so disappointed in me. He wanted this treaty between
our lands to work. I’ve only just arrived and I’ve already ruined it. What am I
going to do?!
“Well,” Garron cleared his throat again, “we should be going. I’m sure
Prince Kadrean is eager to meet you.”
Gesturing forward, her husband held out his arm for her.
No, I mustn’t think of him that way, she admonished herself. He is my
husband, but he’s right, I’m supposed to marry Prince Kadrean. There is a
treaty; our marriage is law. It must happen…

My thoughts:
Lady Mirabella Tirel decides she is not going to marry for Love as her heart has been broken. Her friends Giles, Lewin and Josephine all go with Mirabella for her last season in London. She is determined to find the right husband for herself. After making notes of pros and cons for 3 gentlemen. All three are discounted and by the time she knows who she really cares for it might be too late.
The descriptions the author gives of the dresses and the society you feel like you are along side the characters in the book. You can picture vividly the clothes as the author goes into great detail. I nice relaxing read.
