“Why are you here?” Lilith asked. “You’ve already got your life seal.”
“I have more questions for Istulo.” She continued to stare at the disk.
Lilith sighed. “My name is Lilith. What’s your name?”
Her shoulders relaxed slightly. A hint of a smile broke out on her face. Her upturned nose wiggled. “She-Aba. I was born here in the Black Land. Both my parents arrived from Atlantis fourteen years ago yesterday. My mother gave birth to me the next day.”
Lilith perked up. “That would make today your birthday!”
She-Aba beamed. “Yes. That’s why I’m here. For my birthday last year, I had my life reading done by Istulo. But recently, there’s been a hiccup in my plans. It’s like my life seal rearranged itself, and now I’m confused. I’m here for a reaffirmation.”
“What’s the problem?”
She-Aba traced her life seal with the tip of her perfectly shaped fingernail. “My lifetime occupation was supposed to be to design clothing for the people of the various positions in the court and temples.”
Lilith smirked. “That makes perfect sense.”
“I know, right? So why, all of a sudden, would my life seal change from designing clothing to something completely different?”
Lilith arched a fair brow. “How different?”
“Well, instead of clothing people in lavish robes and gowns for others to appreciate, the seal suggests that I’ll be doing the opposite by covering up and hiding the truth. I don’t understand it at all. I thought my life was all planned out for me.”
“I thought mine was too, until my country blew up and slid into the ocean,” Lilith muttered.
“Hey, look at the bright side, at least your hair isn’t red like mine.”
Lilith eyed She-Aba carefully. “What’s wrong with red hair? My uncle has red hair and it suits him fine.”
She-Aba moved in closer. “If you haven’t noticed already, there aren’t many redheads around here. The natives think red is magical, and anyone with red hair is considered a freak of nature.”
“That’s ridiculous!” Lilith said loud enough to cause an echo down the marble hallway. “Is that the reason why those artists were rude to you? Because you have red hair?”
“Red is a very powerful color,” a raspy voice said from behind both girls.
Lilith and She-Aba jumped. They slowly turned to find Istulo hovering over them.
Wearing the same white gown and orichalcum headband Lilith saw her dressed in before, Istulo nodded slightly before she said, “Red represents the essence of life—if we are drained of blood, we are drained of energy. The people of the Black Land understand this, and therefore red is reserved only for their gods and goddesses.”
Lilith giggled. “Don’t tell She-Aba that, she’ll think she’s a goddess.”

What is the hardest part of your job? What is the most rewarding?
One of the greatest challenges of being in command is, paradoxically, not to command. When I see that one of my pilots has guided themselves to exceed any prior definitions of personal excellence, then I know I have achieved what I set out to do.
When not working, how do you spend your time?
My top priorities are my husband and my child.
If money was no object and you had 3 weeks of vacation what would you do with your time?
My husband likes to fish. I would take him to the best trout stream on the planet, which may well be the one that runs through his parents’ Montana ranch. I would be sure to bring a good book. Perhaps several…he does enjoy his fishing.

FRISK ME // The Playlist
I know so many authors that like to write in complete silence. I also know so many writers who thrive on the hustle and bustle and “people noise” of working at Starbucks.
Me? I’m neither of these. When I’m working on a story, it’s all about the music. If I’m stuck on a scene, almost always the problem is that I don’t have the write song!
For some reason, this reliance on the right music was never so important as with writing FRISK ME. I’d be completely paralyzed until I had my theme song for the day!! So know that the list below wasn’t hastily thrown together. No no. This list took me HOURS of careful deliberation. Even now, I’ll hear one of these songs and not only do I immediately think of the scene, I can recall exactly where I was sitting when I wrote the scene?! Fact: The power of music is CREEPY. Also, awesome.
The songs start off pretty upbeat and intense, and then mellow out as the romance develops and gets sexy

My thoughts:
This book was pretty good grabbing you from the first page until the very end. Fast paced and romance that will keep you wanting the fan. You can’t beat some good cowboys. Lone Rider is book 2 of her Montana Hamiltons Series, it’s a spin off from her Beartooth Mountain Series.
Bo goes to the mountains to clear her head and that’s when things start to snow ball. Thank god Jace is looking for her. Jace knows deep down in his heart that in spite of rumors, there is no way that Bo took the missing money, but he needs to bring her down from the Crazies for her to prove it.
A great story to fall into and this book will keep you smiling.

What is Bo Hamilton up to these days?
Bo has been under a lot of stress. We don’t find out why until LONE RIDER.
Without giving away too much, what’s your favorite scene in the book?
Ever cuddled up with someone you love in a makeshift shelter in a snowstorm? That’s all I can say about that.
What type of lover is Jace?
That’s pretty personal. He is the kind of man who takes making love seriously. He is the kind of man who will always be there for the woman he loves – even for a woman who broke his heart.
Where would Jace and Bo run away to elope?
Hawaii
How far in advance do you plan out your stories?
Seconds. Seriously. I’m a seat of the pants writer. I never know what is going to happen until I put my fingers on the keyboard. It’s very exciting for me – and terrifying.
Did you do a character sketch of the sisters before you started this series?
Nope. It’s that seat of the pants thing. But I did have a sense of each of them.
If you could choose any literary heroine that is most like Bo, who would it be?
Scarlett O’Hara. Like Scarlett, Bo is strong and determined. She passed up a chance at happiness with the man who promised her undying love. But unlike Scarlett, Bo won’t make that mistake twice.
Has the Hamilton family dynamic changed since the last book?
Definitely. Little did the Hamiltons know just how many secrets there were in their family. As each secret comes out, the family grows closer.
Can you give us any hints for upcoming characters/suspenseful scenes?

What are you working on next?
The next book in the series is LUCKY SHOT (December). Kat, the prickly sister who speaks her mind, will meet her match in Max, a reporter/photographer who will bring her out of her shell.
In HARD RAIN (March), Harper and Brody McTavish finally get a chance for romance – unless the secret between their families drives them apart.
In the next two books after that, sisters Cassidy and Ainsley will get their chance for happiness with mystery men – and the biggest secret – their mother Sarah – will be solved.
LONE RIDER EXCERPT
A few months ago, his sister had gotten out of jail and gone to work for Bo. He’d been surprised she’d given Emily a chance. He’d had to readjust his opinion of Bo—but only a little. Now this.
“There has to be an explanation,” he said, even though he knew firsthand that Bo often acted impulsively. She did whatever she wanted, damn the world. But now his little sister was part of that world. How could she leave Emily and the rest of the staff at the foundation to face this alone?
“I sure hope everything is all right,” his sister said. “Bo is so sweet.”
Sweet wasn’t a word he would have used to describe her. Sexy in a cowgirl way, yes, since most of the time she dressed in jeans, boots and a Western shirt—all of which accented her very nice curves. Her long, sandy-blond hair was often pulled up in a ponytail or wrestled into a braid that hung over one shoulder. Since her wide green eyes didn’t need makeup to give her that girl-next-door look, she seldom wore it.
“I can’t believe she wouldn’t show up. Something must have happened,” Emily said loyally.
He couldn’t help being skeptical based on Bo’s history. But given Em’s concern, he didn’t want to add his own kindling to the fire.
“Jace, I just have this bad feeling. You’re the best tracker in these parts. I know it’s a lot to ask, but would you go find her?”
He almost laughed. Given the bad blood between him and Bo? “I’m the last person—”
“I’m really worried about her. I know she wouldn’t run off.”
Jace wished he knew that. “Look, if you’re really that concerned, maybe you should call the sheriff. He can get search and rescue—”
“No,” Emily cried. “No one knows what’s going on over at the foundation. We have to keep this quiet. That’s why you have to go.”
He’d never been able to deny his little sister anything, but this was asking too much.
“Please, Jace.”
He swore silently. Maybe he’d get lucky and Bo would return before he even got saddled up. “If you’re that worried…” He got to his feet and reached for his hat, telling himself it shouldn’t take him long to find Bo if she’d gone up into the Crazies, as the Crazy Mountains were known locally. He’d grown up in those mountains. His father had been an avid hunter who’d taught him everything about mountain survival.
If Bo had gone rogue with the foundation’s funds… He hated to think what that would do not only to Emily’s job but also to her recovery. She idolized her boss. So did Josie, who was allowed the run of the foundation office.
But finding Bo was one thing. Bringing her back to face the music might be another. He started to say as much to Emily, but she cut him off.
“Oh, Jace, thank you so much. If anyone can find her, it’s you.”
He smiled at his sister as he set his Stetson firmly on his head and made her a promise. “I’ll find Bo Hamilton and bring her back.” One way or the other.

“What do you know about Grandy’s place?” he asked.
Gem’s eyebrows shot up. “The lonely homestead?”
“Why d’you call it that?”
She shrugged. “It’s been empty since he died. Most people just call it the house at the end of the street. What’s it to you anyway?”
“This and that.”
Gem’s exasperation bubbled, overwhelming the original idea of coming out here to calmly persuade him to leave town. ‘This and that,’ she parroted. “Is that all you’ve got? Why don’t you want anyone to know what you’ve been doing?”
The way he bowed his head and studied the ground, his broad shoulders slumped in some kind of despair, caused Gem some remorse.
“Are you in trouble, Josh?” she asked in a whisper. Maybe that’s why he was so evasive. Maybe he’d made a big mistake in life. Maybe he’d been in prison. No, wait—he had a tan.
He smiled at her, the skin creasing around his eyes. A little more depth to the crinkles now, suggesting that he’d done a lot of smiling over the years. That he’d enjoyed himself.
“No. I’m not in trouble.” He seemed to come out of his reverie. He lifted a hand and swept it through her hair, brushing it back from her forehead. “Not the way you’re thinking.”
Gem stilled. The gesture was one she remembered from their best-friend days of long ago, but there had been nothing more than friendship in it then—this touch spoke of everything undealt with and unsaid between them since their moment this afternoon.
