The Turnaround Treasure Shop by Jennie Jones book blitz & giveaway

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Fall in love in Swallow’s Fall with

The Turnaround Treasure Shop

by bestselling Australian romance author Jennie Jones!

Introduction and Exclusive Excerpt

By Author Jennie Jones

Looking for a delightful, warm story about family and second-chance love? The Turnaround Treasure Shop follows the adventures of the heart for Lily Johnson. Everyone has the right to at least one dream coming true, and Lily is determined to achieve her goal on her own. But things are tough on the financial front and if she doesn’t take the chance offered to her by ex-Navy Captain Nick Barton, she might find that “one day” never comes.

The Turnaround Treasure Shop is book #4 in the bestselling Swallow’s Fall series. But each book in the series can be read alone and frequently are – Jennie’s had plenty of readers buy book #3 and then go back for books #1 and #2.

Jennie’s fictional town of Swallow’s Fall is set in a remote country area in the Australian Snowy Mountains and boasts 100 residents. Lots of them falling in love, some of them longing for dreams to come true, some of them scheming or creating mayhem with their matchmaking plans – but all of them leaving a mark on this small country town.

Jennie has a great rapport with her readers all over the world and recently asked them if they’d read a new series: Daughters of Swallow’s Fall – and the resounding answer was – Yes! But before that, the next book in this series (#5) The House at the End of the Street is releasing on July 27th.

Read on for the excerpt…

“Good morning.” Lily Johnson didn’t look at Nicholas Barton, instead skimming her smile in the direction of the top of his head and off it again as fast as politely possible. Not that he noticed.

“Morning, Lily,” he said, dark head bowed to the breakfast plate she’d put on the table in front of him.

He wore a dark green crewneck with a white T-shirt beneath, the sleeves of his sweater pushed up his arms, the way they always were. How he got through the Snowy Mountains climate without a coat, Lily didn’t know. Even summers weren’t exactly drenched in heat in this part of Australia, and autumn always had a nip in the air. He was hardly ever out of dark green or bark-brown colours. A throw-back to his armed-forces days, probably. The strong silent type — but not mean or standoffish — just reserved. Which suggested a caring nature, Lily had always thought.

She moved to an empty table next to him and picked up a cruet set and a tomato sauce bottle, reminding herself to tell the young girl who’d worked Saturday night’s restaurant shift that she needed to make sure every table was set for the next day before leaving work.

“There.” She fussed with the salt and pepper, and straightened the napkin holder. “Enjoy,” she said, wiping her hands onto her white apron and hoping the salutation sounded the way it did when she said it to every customer she served breakfast.

“Thanks,” he said, in the same low-toned, unruffled manner he’d used to thank her for his weekend breakfasts for the last year.

He picked up his knife and fork. His forearms were thick and toughened with muscle. Those muscles wouldn’t stop at his elbows, they’d go right up his arms to support his heavy-duty shoulders. It was all that muscle which probably kept his body temperature warmed.

He looked up, his hooded leaf-green eyes holding an enquiry. “Everything all right?”

Lily stumbled over her laugh. “Sorry. Daydreaming.” Ouch. Daydreaming about Nick was taboo, and she didn’t want him knowing any of her taboo thoughts.

She turned for the kitchen of Kookaburra’s Hotel, and fanned her blazing face. Nicholas Barton made her tremble. He’d been making her tremble for 12 months and no matter how hard she tried to put the moment behind her, the recollection of the awkward position she’d put him in at last years’ Easter Bunny Ball fried her brain every time she saw him. Like a splash of hot oil on the scalp.

This year’s Ball was happening in two weeks’ time. Would he remember last year’s and stay clear? Or had he wiped the incident from his memory the way she wiped her hands on her apron? He was too much of a gentleman to have referred to it since, but sometimes Lily had the sense that behind his unflappable exterior, there was a zing of anticipation in the air between them. That was the bit that made Lily tremble.

Fatalistic, long divorced and doing her best to give her children a good life, Lily Johnson works two jobs in her hometown of Swallow’s Fall, saving every spare cent for the day she can lease the empty corner shop on Main Street. She longs to open it as Turnaround Treasures, a second-hand shop bursting with rescued country curios — but there aren’t enough spare cents and Lily’s dream is slipping away.

Ex-Navy diver Nick Barton arrived in Swallow’s Fall a year ago to quietly reunite himself with civvy life. Recognising an instant attraction to Lily, Nick backed away fast. Given his track record of an unhappy ex-wife and the baggage that comes with a Special Forces career, Nick doesn’t think he stands a chance with shy, reserved Lily. He can’t be with her – but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t see her.

Lily has spent her whole life cheerfully giving to others. When Nick offers her the ultimate chance for a turnaround, will Lily’s fear of being ‘second hand’ ruin the opportunity of forever love for both of them?

Chef Maurice and the Wrath of Grapes by J.A. Lang blog tour & review

Chef Maurice Book 2 Tour Banner

Chef Maurice and the Wrath of Grapes - Cover

In the rarefied world of wine collecting, murder isn’t exactly a barrel of laughs…

An invitation to dinner at the home of renowned wine collector Sir William Burton-Trent soon finds Chef Maurice in the middle of an all-too-real murder mystery party, when Sir William is found dead in his own wine cellar.

The guests are acting all innocent, but which one is only playing the part? The pushy Californian film director? The seductive French winemaker?

Or could it be, against all narrative decency, the butler who did it?

With the help of food critic friend Arthur Wordington-Smythe, a large kipper sandwich, and the newly formed Cochon Rouge Wine Appreciation Society, Chef Maurice must get to the bottom of matters before events turn decidedly sour

My thoughts:

This is the second book in the Chef Maurice Culinary Mysteries.  I have read the first as some of you maybe remember and this book is just as good.

Chef Maurice and Arthur find themselves on the trail of a murderer and wine thief .  Phone don’t work, it is snowy, the passages are hidden and even Hamilton the micro-pig makes an appearance along with a frozen goose on a harrowing public transport ride.  You got to love Hamilton the wonder pig.

Lucy and Patrick continue to their courtship as it were called which is nice and the characters from the last book are again placed in this one.

The author once again has done a wonderful job.  I am loving this series and the authors writing grabs you and pulls you into the mystery. You want to help Chef Maurice and Arthur.

Hearts Don’t Lie by Shirleen Davies spotlight & giveaway

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Description:

Mitch

MacLaren
has reasons for avoiding relationships, and in his

opinion, they’re pretty darn good. As the new president of RTC Bucking Bulls,

difficult challenges occur daily. He certainly doesn’t need another one in the

form of a fiery, blue-eyed, redhead.

Dana

Ballard’s
new job forces her to work with the one MacLaren who

can’t seem to get over himself and lighten up. Their verbal sparring is second

nature and entertaining until the night of Mitch’s departure when he surprises

her with a dare she doesn’t refuse.

With his assignment in Fire Mountain over, Mitch is

free to return to Montana and run the business his father helped start. The

glitch in his enthusiasm has to do with one irreversible mistake—the dare Dana

didn’t ignore. Now, for reasons that confound him, he just can’t let it go.

Working together is a circumstance neither wants,

but both must accept. As their attraction grows, so do the accidents and

strange illnesses of the animals RTC depends on to stay in business. Mitch’s

total focus should be on finding the reasons and people behind the incidents.

Instead, he finds himself torn between his unwanted desire for Dana and the

business which is his life.

Excerpt:

Red hair had never turned him

on, nor had outspoken women. He preferred brunettes with soft curves, warm

smiles, and open arms that knew when to let go. Mitch had the feeling if Dana

ever got her claws into a man, it would be all over except for the sounds of

surrender. From her description of Kell Corwin, she may have found someone to

keep her occupied for some time. The knowledge didn’t give him any comfort. He

moved toward her, taking the box off the hood of the truck and stowing it on

the seat next to him, then turned to look at her.

“Have a safe trip, handsome.”

Her blue eyes sparkled in the moonlight, although he could detect a look of

what? Melancholy…regret?

“No goodbye kiss?” he

half-teased.

Her gaze narrowed on his, her

lips set in a thin line as if she struggled with a decision. “Sure, why not.”

She rose up on her toes, placing what was meant to be a peck on his cheek.

In a quick move, Mitch

wrapped his hands around her arms, pulling her tight as he shifted, his mouth

finding hers. The kiss was demanding, coaxing, the intensity sucking all the

air from her lungs. She pulled her arms free, wrapping them around his neck,

drawing him down as their tongues collided, tangling, as if fighting for

dominance. He set his hands on her waist, dragging her closer, taking

everything he could as heat flared between them. Letting his hands roam up and

down her back and hips, he grabbed her shirt, intending to pull it free.

Instead, her moan snapped him out of his passion-induced trance. As quick as it

started, he set her aside, his breath ragged.

“That was some goodbye kiss,

lady.”

Hudson’s eyes flared. “Taunting me?” he asked. But he didn’t wait for an answer. Instead he lurched forward in a few powerful strides, palming the back of the couch with his free hand and leaping over it.

Shit.

With her heart pounding, Allie took off in the only available direction. When she reached the stairs, Hudson was right behind her, taking them two at a time. She gasped as his fingers grazed her hip before dropping to catch her ankle.

He yanked her down as he prowled up her body, his hips surging against her backside as he lowered his mouth to her ear. “I’ve caught you, baby.” He buried his hand in her hair and pulled her head to the side. She moaned when his lips found the spot on her neck that never failed to drive her wild. Pleasure shot through her as he sucked on the sensitive skin and she writhed beneath him. “Now, what shall I do to you?”

Allie’s lips parted on a raged breath. “Whatever you want.”

Determined to make a new start, Carrie leaves Texas and heads to Palm Beach to pick up the pieces of her shattered and broken life. The last thing she expects is to find herself attracted to her first client at her new job–Brad Larson, who has proven himself time and time again to be caddish.

Alchemy’s Daughter by Mary Osborne, review / author interview / giveaway

About the book:

Alchemy's Daughter by Mary A. OsborneBook Details:Book TitleAlchemy’s Daughter by Mary A. Osborne

Category: YA and Adult Fiction, 288 pages

Genre: Historical fiction

Publisher: Lake Street Press

Published: May 2015

Available in:  Print only

Will send books: USA & Canada

Tour dates:  July 13 to 31, 2015

Content Rating: PG + M (Alchemy’s Daughter is a tale of midwifery during the Middle Ages, so there are some childbirth scenes in the book. However, the scenes are not overly graphic, and there is no mention of specific body parts and there is no profanity (other than when a character says, “My God!”)Book Description:In medieval San Gimignano, Italy, daughters of merchants are expected to marry. But Santina Pietra cares only for Calandrino, a brilliant young scholar who is preoccupied with his ancient alchemical texts.

Soon Santina meets Trotula, the village midwife, who might or might not be a “strega,” a witch. Trotula challenges her to forget Calandrino and become the woman she is meant to be. Some say she is a victim of the midwife’s spell, but Santina is determined to follow in Trotula’s footsteps even as calamities strike.

My thoughts:

This is a first time author for me.  I am so glad I got to read this fabulous book.

I could not put this book down the characters are so well written it is like they come to life. You will keep turning the pages to find out what happens with them.  The messages in the book will appeal to women and girls. The characters search for their callings in life, facing all odds and obstacles to pursue those callings.  The lives of woman back in the 1300’s Italy is really fascinating.  It was great to see Santina do something despite what her father thinks.

There is something for everyone here: romance, history, adventure and philosophy.  You will not want to put this book down.

“Behind the Scenes of Alchemy’s Daughter with Award-winning Author and RN, Mary A. Osborne”

Q: The heroine of Alchemy’s Daughter loves a scholar who is more or less unavailable to her. Would you classify this book as romance?

A: Alchemy’s Daughter is a love story, but Santina’s love interest does skip town early on in the book. So she has to find a way to cope with her broken heart. She and Calandrino develop a sort of epistolary romance, and the forced separation leads Santina to discover her interest in midwifery.

Q: Calandrino is smart, devout, handsome, and unattainable. Is he based on anyone you know?

A: Like almost all those you will meet in my books, Calandrino is a composite character. An author friend of mine inspired the pious, scholarly side of Calandrino. A darker character in the book, Taddeo, is an exaggerated version of one or two men I’ve known in the past—the type of man who wants a woman merely as an accessory and who is threatened by a woman’s intelligence and independent spirit.

Q: When Santina isn’t thinking about Calandrino, she’s busy learning how to be a midwife. The childbirth scenes in your book seem very accurate and believeable. How did you research childbirth and midwifery during the Middle Ages?

A: Multiple books and online sources on medieval history as well as contemporary sources on childbirth informed Alchemy’s Daughter. In my research, I was surprised to learn that there is evidence for the Caesarean section being performed as far back as the tenth century in Persia!

Q: You are a registered nurse as well as a writer. Do you have experience in the field of midwifery?

A: Not really, although I did have the opportunity to observe a Caesarean operation during nursing school. I do think my training as a home care nurse is reflected in my understanding of the midwives’ work, however. During the Middle Ages, midwives often did more than assist with deliveries. In rural areas, especially, people depended on the herbal remedies and healing skills of midwives for all sorts of ailments.

Q: Why did you choose medieval Italy as the setting for your book?

A: I love all things Italian, and I became fascinated with the medieval time period. Science hadn’t explained away so many of life’s mysteries. Medieval Italians were superstitious and feared the “evil eye.” People felt influenced by unseen forces, and there was the hint of magic at work in the world, just as there is a hint of magic in Alchemy’s Daughter.

Synopsis

The septuagenarian women of the Summer Ridge Bridge Club have gathered in secret late one July night to check skinny dipping off their bucket list. But as Francine observes, the jittery members seem more obsessed with body issues and elaborate preparations than actually stripping down and getting in the pool. A pungent smell emanating from the pool shed provides a perfect distraction. When a dead body flops out, it’s an answered prayer for Charlotte, since the first item on her list is to solve a murder.

Unfortunately for Charlotte and Francine, before they can discover who really killed the man, they must negotiate neighborhood tours of the crime scene, press coverage of their skinny dipping, an angry Homeowner’s Association, a disastrous appearance on Good Morning America, media offers sought by a hungry publicist, and a clever killer.

My review:

This is a new to me author and I have to say they are great.  The characters are a group of older ladies that are a hoot.  You are never too old to solve a mystery.  They have a list of things they want to do. One was not finding a dead body.  You will be grabbed from the first page with these ladies they keep you on your toes.  You will keep turing the pages to find out what these ladies go through.
