The Cowgirl Ropes A Billionaire by Cora Seton

Bella Chatham will lose everything – her veterinary practice, her animal shelter, and even her home – if she can’t find another source of income, fast. So when her best friend signs her up for the hot new reality television show, Can You Beat a Billionaire, Bella accepts the challenge and hopes against hope she can win the ten million dollar prize. If she doesn’t, it’s bye-bye pet clinic and shelter, bye-bye Chance Creek, Montana, and hello to marriage to the billionaire for a year! Evan Mortimer, billionaire, can’t believe he’s reduced to competing in a television contest to win a wife. Unfortunately, it’s the only foolproof way to secure his position as head of Mortimer Innovations. At least he’ll be able to dump his “spouse” at the end of the year; he’s much too busy to be tied down to a country bumpkin cowgirl. Bella doesn’t expect her adversary to be handsome – or funny, or compassionate – but Evan’s all three, and he’s proving a tough competitor, too. When they end up sharing a tent – and a sleeping-bag – her body betrays her with a longing so deep it cuts her to the core. Still, this cowgirl must stay strong. If Evan uncovers her secret fears, he’ll use them to win the contest – and then he’ll own her for a year. She’ll be out of luck, out of cash, and stuck being Mrs. Mortimer until he kicks her to the curb. Too bad she can’t decide which is worse – winning the show and losing Evan forever, or losing the show and only being his temporary wife. Evan can’t believe he’s falling for the one woman who doesn’t want him. This cowgirl’s not impressed by his money, his name, or his inability to sleep in a tent with her for an entire night, but every look and touch she gives him sends his desire through the roof. With a director determined to use his claustrophobia to make him look like a fool, and an adversary so sexy he can hardly see straight, he’ll need all his savvy to come out on top. Too bad he’s going to lose no matter how this show turns out. If he beats Bella, he’ll destroy the first woman he’s ever loved. If he doesn’t beat her, it’s bye-bye Mortimer Innovations. Will either of them remember in time that it’s not who wins or who loses – it’s how they play the game that really counts?

Series: Cowboys of Chance Creek
Paperback: 306 pages
Publisher: One Acre Press (October 16, 2013)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 192703647X
ISBN-13: 978-1927036471

My thoughts:

This is book 4 of the Cowboys of Chance Creek series. I have read them all and they get better as each title comes about.

Bella is the Veteran of Chance Creek she takes care of the pets the town folks love, cats, dogs etc.  She is running out of money to help take care of the shelter.  She hasn’t asked anyone for help as she is afraid to.  Her helper Heather has entered her into a contest where she could win Ten billion dollars.  Evan is the owner of Mortimer Innovations.    He needs a wife for a year to keep the company for himself or his little brother gets to take over.  With nothing left he gets his secretary to get him on the show.

Bella and Evan face off on the contest for 5 days.  Neither one wanting to lose or lose their hearts to each other.  During the contest they encounter some secrets they both share and some tender moments.  The author did a wonderful job with the character development.  You would feel the tension between the characters and the hint of love.

I enjoy reading this series and look forward to the next one.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review this book for an honest review

Getting Rowdy by Lori Foster

GETTING ROWDY

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR, LORI FOSTER PROVES THAT “GETTING ROWDY” MAY BE MUCH HARDER THAN EXPECTED.

Lori Foster

From New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster, comes the third book in her new Love Undercover series, GETTING ROWDY (HQN Books; October 2013; $7.99 U.S./$8.99 CAN.).

An alpha hero’s attraction to the one woman he can’t have could draw him into a killer’s snare.

Charismatic bar owner Rowdy Yates isn’t the kind of man women say no to. So when he approaches waitress Avery Mullins, he fully expects to get her number. However, the elusive beauty has her reasons for keeping her distance— including a past that might come back to haunt them both.

Avery spends her nights working for tips…and trying to forget the secret Rowdy is determined to unearth. But when history threatens to repeat itself, Avery grows to rely on Rowdy’s protective presence. As the sparks between them ignite, she will be forced to choose between the security she’s finally found…and the passion she’s always wanted.

Lori Foster

Since first publishing in January 1996, Lori Foster has become a Waldenbooks, Borders, USA TODAY, Publishers Weekly and New York Timesbestselling author. She also received the Romantic Times “Career Achievement Award” for Series Romantic Fantasy and Contemporary Romance.

Lori believes it is important to give back to the community as much as possible, so she routinely arranges events among authors and readers to gather donations for various organizations.

My thoughts:

If you have not read the first two books you might want to do that. We meet Rowdy in the first book which is Pepper’s brother. IN the second book we see where Rowdy is flirting with Avery quite well I might add. She is working in the bar he owns.

Rowdy has spent most of his time running from the worse people anyone could imagine. All he wants is good sex and as you might guess a lot of it. But with Avery he can picture more then just a few nights of sex. He knows Avery is hiding something and he must find out what.

Different things take place and a lot of us to get involved in.

I enjoyed the story. Lori’s writing takes a reader in from the first page until the last. She has everything for everyone to enjoy, suspense, secrets, love, and more.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspense romance.

The Sheik Retold

TSR 7x4.5 ad

When first published in 1919, E.M. Hull’s The Sheik was an overnight bestseller with over fifty  printings within the first two years of release. The book was also made into a silent film that catapulted its leading man, Rudolph Valentino, to superstardom. Given its huge success in its time, I have no doubt many readers will wonder at my motive in re-writing this romance classic.

As a reader, I have always found the “forced seduction”/rape-to-love trope appalling, and have never had such mixed feelings about a book as I did after reading The Sheik. It had so much to offer with its strong characters and beautiful descriptive prose, but it fell sadly short for me in so many other ways. I found the narrative too repetitive and the pace plodding. There was too much navel-gazing on the heroine’s part, and far too little actual interaction between the hero and heroine for a romance. In sum, I loved and loathed it in equal measure.

Nevertheless, this story captured my imagination and even though I had a number of other writing projects in progress, The Sheik held me hostage and absolutely refused to let me go. Once I began fantasizing about alternate scenarios, dialogue, and plot twists, I knew it was calling to me. I had no choice but to re-tell this story the way I envisioned it.

While I have taken a number of liberties in my re-telling, the main plot, characters, and descriptive passages are largely unchanged. I kept everything I loved and changed what I loathed. Although my version is not completely devoid of violence (to omit all of it would only have watered down Ahmed’s powerful alpha character), I have taken out the rape and animal abuse which I abhorred in the original. I have also thrown the bedroom door wide open.

Most important, however, is my portrayal of Diana. Even though she falls deeply in love with her captor, my version of the character stays true to her strong and self-willed nature right to the end.

While I believe The Sheik Retold will compare favorably to E.M. Hull’s The Sheik, readers of this book will be the ultimate judge.

Downtown Cowboy by jean Blasiar

51Fz-qP53iL._SY346_

Young Brady Johnson, called the Downtown Cowboy by his friends, lives with his widowed mother in the tenement district of a mid-western city. A favorite haunt of Brady’s is the city dump, one block away, where he spends most of his time rummaging through garbage, especially the garbage dumped on Thursdays from “uptown”. One Thursday morning Brady discovers a diary written by a very depressed boy about his age. Hoping for a reward, Brady takes some of the money he has saved and rides the bus “uptown” to see if he can find the boy and return the diary. Follow Brady to the conclusion of this surprising uptown journey and into a world, he is sure, he will never belong.

Paperback: 188 pages
Publisher: Charles River Press (May 24, 2013)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1936185431
ISBN-13: 978-1936185436

My thoughts:

A remarkable read by Jean Blasiar.  The boys and I love her Emmy Budd series and when this book arrived to us we were excited to try a new book.

Brady is a unique  young man.  He likes to go to the dump to see what comes from Uptown.  When he finds a diary by Robert Stevens he sets off to look for the boy and lend him some help.  Brady got lucky when he found the house the maid thought he was there looking for the job to help the gardener.  The next day Brady gave the book to Roberts mother who was not too keen on Brady and at first did not believe his story.  She let him stay to swim with Robert and he saw his diary sitting beside Brady. He asked if Brady read it and he said he did but only he did not have a step father he hated.  He knew Robert could use a friend.

Brady found out some of the diary was not true Robert pretended to he had a bad step father so it would explain why he had no friends.  They come up with an idea for a party to help gain Robert some friends as he explained he was not in the clique.  Will the party help and what about the downtown, uptown relationship?

The story was a wonderful read.  It’s nice to see people not judge and get to know the “real” person behind where they come from.  Brady meets a lot of interesting kids and vice versa.  The characters pop out of the page and draw you into the story.  It’s heartwarming to read such an amazing story and one that can help other kids understand differences.
