The Sheriff Catches a Bride by Cora Seton

When county sheriff Cab Johnson gets a hunch, he’s learned to trust it, and his hunch tells him Rose Bellingham is in a peck of trouble. Bad enough he’s in love with her, bad enough she’s already engaged to Jason Thayer. He’s got to figure out what she’s hiding before he loses her for good.

Rose can’t stand one more person meddling in her business, even if that person is a handsome, eligible sheriff. She’s been controlled for far too long. But since her fiancé’s father is both her boss and landlord, she can’t dump Jason until she’s got somewhere to run. She’s found the perfect place: a patch of forest outside town. But with Cab watching her every move, she’s hard pressed to finish her hideaway so she can make her escape. Meanwhile, she’s not the only one with problems. Can she find a way to help her friends, too?

Just when Cab solves one mystery, more pop up. Where does Rose keep disappearing to? What’s wrong with Mia Start? Why is Hannah Chatham lying to her fiancé? At least he’s let Rose know he’s interested. And if he’s not mistaken, she’s interested, too.

Rose’s hideaway is perfect, until her friends invade it to escape their own troubles. Can she trust them to keep its whereabouts a secret? Does she want to hide from Cab anymore? Now that Jason’s out of the picture, is it safe to follow her heart?

When two unexpected visitors arrive with secrets of their own, Chance Creek must brace for its deadliest night ever. Can Cab figure out the connections between all the mysteries fast enough?

Or will Rose and her friends pay the ultimate price?

My thoughts:

I have read this series from the very beginning. This is number 5 in the series and it just keeps getting better and better. This particular store involves the sheriff Cab and long time friend Rose. All of Cab’s friends have gotten that perfect woman to be their wife and now it is his turn. He is lonely and is thinking about Rose more and more. The one problem, Rose is already engaged and has been for the past 6 years.

Rose has a special talent working in the jewelry store.  When a couple comes in and tries on rings she knows if it will be happily ever after or a doomed marriage.  When one of Cab picks out a ring that he likes and one of his buddies places that ring on Rose’s hand she is startled.  She knows he is the one for her, but what can she do she is engaged to Jason.  Can Cab change her mind before it is too late?

The story is wonderful as always the author knows how to to write to hold a persons interest.  You want to know these characters and learn more about the friendships that happen along the way.  You learn a little bit more of the past characters you have read about as well.  I hope the series will continue.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.

Any and all donations will be used to pay for his treatment. We know there are a lot of fake people in the world and we for one want to make sure people know we used the money for what we said we did. So we intend to post redacted copies of our medical receipts showing the money indeed spent on his medical care. I know its not absolutely necessary, but I want folks to know its real and also how much it costs for a pet’s cancer treatment. Granted cancer treatment varies by the individual pet. If we succeed in our funding and circumstances dictate not all the money will be used, then we intend to share any excess money beyond Winters medical bills with other gofundme users looking for help with pet care.

A Tarnish Knight by Kathy Otten

ATarnishedKnight

A TARNISHED KNIGHT EXCERPT:

The peacefulness of Ryder MacKenzie’s home

settled into her soul with every breath of air she drew,

soothing the restless need to run that had consumed her

since she’d hit Nicholas with the whiskey bottle.

When she wandered back to the cabin, she

expected Ryder to be in bed, but he was still in the tub,

his knees drawn up, pale and knobby, his head resting

on the rim.

She grabbed Beau by the scruff of his neck and

shoved him outside closing the door with a sharp bang.

Ryder jerked upright, sloshing water over the sides.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “I’ll come back.”

“No.” He leaned back and closed his eyes. “I’m

done. I just want to wash my hair.”

“I can do it for you.” Before the words were out of

her mouth, she questioned what part of her brain they’d

come from.

Maybe it was because Ryder was safe, and this was

a chance to physically connect with a man on her own

terms, without fear.

Maybe she needed to satisfy the curiosity that had

taunted her all week, urging her to explore the body of

this man she desired.

But maybe it was simply because he was Ryder

MacKenzie, and in his own determined, unassuming

way, he’d touched her heart and become her hero, and

there would never again be a man she so ached to

know.

We hope you have enjoyed the excerpt, now for more on “A Tarnished Knight”!

——————————————-

Fleeing her abusive husband, Victoria Van der Beck is captured by down-on-his-luck bounty hunter, Ryder MacKenzie. As she comes to love this man who hides his face in shadows, she wonders if he could be the valiant knight for whom she’s been longing. Is he the champion who would save her from the evil prince, or is MacKenzie just a paid lackey determined to return her to her husband?

Ryder MacKenzie never believed anyone could love him, for he was cursed the day he was born. He only wants to be left alone to live on his ranch in peace. But rustlers have stolen his cattle. He’s been ambushed and his horse killed. Now his one chance to get his life back is to simply return a society princess to her husband. Maybe his luck is about to change. At least she isn’t pretty.

EDITORIAL QUOTES

THE DEVIL DEVERE SERIES – LIBRARY JOURNAL BEST E-BOOK ROMANCE 2012

“The “Devil DeVere” series is a variation on the rake’s progress, or the rake’s reformation, except that is doesn’t start with said rake as the main character—a device that is amazingly clever on Vane’s part and allows her to circle in on DeVere without revealing too much at the outset… The series is erotic and sexy, and sometimes you want to shake the characters until their teeth rattle, but it is absolutely marvelous… This one should be read with bonbons. And a fan!” –Marlene Harris for Library Journal

Cover Reveal The Hunter by Joann Buchanan

Destiny chose her, vengeance drove her. Seventeen year old

Carly was born to be a hunter, a destiny she rejected until one fateful night

when the only person she had in the world was taken, her mom. Now Carly is on a

mission to hunt down the entity that destroyed her world.

Excerpt

My name is Carly. I belong

to The Order of the Hunters—a group of chosen who are given the gift to track

and kill those beings that go bump in the night. Oh yes, they are real, the

monsters that creep in the darkness. They hide in the gardens of our own minds

by making us believe they are nothing more than myths and legends. I’ve

traveled this road for two years now. It’s not the same highway, but at times,

when the sun is high in the sky and the road sweats from the heat, it feels

like it. I wish I could say what brought me to this point was a sense of honor

and nobility. In reality it was much simpler, it was revenge. Mom was taken by

Shai, the weigher of souls.

The Hunter is scheduled to be released on January 31st 2014
