After losing her home because of a fire after an earthquake, widowed Shaina accepts employment to make ends meet with the very considerate and attentive Sloan Remington. Sloan, is one of the wealthiness men in Denver and it's to his huge cattle ranch that Shanina goes to build a new life and work. Neither one can deny that "employer-employee' status takes a different turn, but romance will have to wait for these two as they deal with not only the financial troubles her late husband le

I thought this was a wonderful novel! I laughed until I cried through some parts of it.
I felt sorry for Shaina, but I also admired her for her faith, courage, and she was one strong lady.
I'm glad Shaina had her faith to pull her through some tough times.
I would love to be more like Shaina. But sometimes it is really hard.
I believe what the author is saying is that through God all thing are possible in his own timing! i also live that song that says Love lifted me! and too, I love, love happy

Currency of the heart

Shaina is a widow that loses everything to her name. Sloan is a business man who owns a manufacturing plant, a hotel and a ranch. Mable is the housekeeper at the ranch. Mable has a accident the day after Shaina home burns down so Sloan asked Shaina to come work for him at the ranch. To see what happens next, pick up a copy of the book. A lot of good secondary characters. One of the discussion question at the end of the book was if I hope any of the secondary characters will

Shaina started out a little prideful, pretending to be what she wasn't . But after she lost everything she was free to be herself . She was a wonderful strong Character, not afraid of hard work. She showed care and compassion for others, true Christian character from beginning to end.

Sloan was big, nice looking, rich guy who never forgot his roots. With all he had , he never thought himself better than anyone else. I loved how he was sensitive to others, especially to Shaina. He knew all about

I loved reading Currency of The Heart, and was sorry the book ended. My favorite books are those I read and I feel as if the characters are real people, ones I’m honored to call my friends. Loree Lough has done just that with Sloan Remington, (what a perfect name for a hero), and Shaina Sterling. Their faith is what keeps them smiling even when life is doing all it can to destroy them. I especially like how Shaina, used scripture to deal with suicide. This was a very uplifting, faith-filled book ...more

I loved this book. Loree weaves together a wonderful love story, historical information, and hero/heroine problem solving. Strong characters and good discriptions are Loree's signature. This one is so very hard to put down once you begin. What am I saying??? Oh my gosh, interruptions go away. I forced myself to read slowly to savor and be able to write a good review of this book. I highly recommend this to current fans and, most imortantly, to new readers of Loree Lough.

I loved this book. Shaina and Sloan were very intriguing characters. They kept me reading. I sat down and except for maybe 4 interruptions I didn't put it down. I kept wanting to find out what happened and when it ended it was too soon. I wanted to keep reading. Looking forward to the next one. I was given an advanced reader copy but I would buy it anyway. I probably will for my church library.

Loree Lough in her new book, “Currency of the Heart” Book One in the Secrets on Sterling Street series published by Whitaker House brings us into the lives of Shaina Sterling and Sloan Remington.

From the back cover: Shaina Sterling hates the lie she’s living, but feels she has no choice. Soon after the shocking death of her husband, the young widow learns how deeply entrenched in debt his lavish lifestyle has left her. To protect the legacy of his name, as well as her own reputation and stately

It's no secret that I love Loree Lough's books. A much-loved Christian author, Lough also attracts a broad secular readership, the reason being that her books explore the tenets of Christianity by weaving them into the storyline, rather than bending the storyline around them. Currency of the Heart is no exception.

Shaina Sterling, impoverished and left a widow by her late husband, has gradually stripped her mansion of practically everything salable when it burns to the ground, leaving her not onl

This book portrays a typical small town. I see it as a one main street town, set at the bottom of a mountain in Colorado, that has a General Store, Beauty Shop, Barber Shop, Dress Shop, Church, Doctor's Office, & Funeral Parlor, etc. I see the men going in the Barber Shop getting their hair cut and playing checkers and other games while they wait also to catch up on that week's news. The ladies go to the Beauty Shop once a week to get their hair styled and talk about things. It's a town wher ...more

I really liked this book. It is an easy read and what I would call a gentle story. Nothing to get your nerves in an uproar. The book just plain makes the reader feel good.

The author takes us into the world of deception by introducing us to Shaina Sterling, a wealthy widow who isn't so wealthy anymore but must keep up appearances. When tragedy strikes she is finally able to be herself and face all of her lies and deceptions. This also includes her feelings for one Sloan Remington, a wealthy ranch

I finished this book yesterday evening and must admit I loved it partially because I lived in Denver as a child and for many years I considered it my home town. The story is about the relationship that develops between Shaina Sterling, a former society wife who resorts to selling her belongings in order to eat, and Sloan Remington who owns the Remington Hotel, the Sterling manufacturing, and the Remington Ranch. After his housekeeper breaks her leg in a fall Sloan hires Shaina as a temporary rep ...more

Wow! So very good! I can't imagine having to leave home at such a young age as Shaina had in order to earn money to survive. Shaina Sterling looked like she had it all together until the untimely death of her husband and finding out that your husband had squandered away everything forcing Shaina to sell their things in order to pay the bills.
Sloan Remington had made a promise to Shaina's father-in-law that he's watch over her and the factory as well. After a series of terrible events and a fire

This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be my last. The author does a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of the 1800's in Colorado. I loved the story line and the characters, and read it in one afternoon because I didn't want to put it down. I definitely am looking forward to the second book in this series. I do recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a really good Christian historical fiction book.

This is a charming and delightful story. While it is set in late 1800's Denver, it has the feel of Any Small Town America.... lots of nostalgia here too. Loved the characters, and got to where I felt I was sitting at the table having coffee with them! I laughed, I cried, I sighed and fell in love... I didn't want this book to end and can't wait for the next one in this series.

Deb’s Dozen: Destitute widow craves acceptance; Successful rancher craves her love. Will romance win?

I love Loree Lough books! I know when I start to read the book there will be a happy ending, but there will be twists and turns along the way to that ending. Currency of the Heart: Secrets on Sterling Street: Book One, is such a story.

Shaina Sterling has been left destitute by a philandering and gambling husband, who has been killed. Before his death, Shaina was part of society—apparently rich an

CURRENCY OF THE HEART is a story of overcoming loss instead of allowing it to consume you. An enchanting story with genuine characters.

Doing all that she can to protect the reputation of her recently deceased husband, she secretly sells off the accumulation of his wealth to hide his sordid secret. Loree Lough’s Currency of the Heart is Christian romance at its best, with believable characters, moral complexities, and nicely non-judgmental attitude. Set in Denver and its environs in the late 1800s, it tells the story of a woman whose life is shaken by the sudden death of her husband; her future is shaken by unexpected debt; her home is shaken by unforeseeable disaster; and her heart is shaken by a love she fears to trust. Characters with secrets in their past struggle to see past faith in ...more

A new book by one of my favorite authors, Loree Lough--and one of her best. Thanks, Loree!

An earthquake shakes Sterling Hall followed by a fire that finished the destruction. Shaina Sterling found herself without a penny to her name and only the clothes on her back. Actually, the double disaster might have come at a good time--it would hide the fact that she'd sold off most of the furnishing and her expensive clothing to keep herself off the poor farm. Even if life did leave her with no source o
