Emily Rhodes came to rural Florida for the cowboys, the cattle, and to do a little country two-step, not to fall head first onto a dead body in a dumpster. Ah, the golden years of retirement in the sunshine state. They’re more like pot metal to Emily, who discovers the body of the county’s wealthiest rancher in the Big Lake Country Club dumpster. With her close friend accused of the murder, Emily sets aside her grief at her life partner’s death to find the real killer. She underestimates the obstacles rural Florida can set up for a winter visitor and runs afoul of a local judge with his own version of justice, hires a lawyer who works out of a retirement home, and flees wild fires hand-in-hand with the man she believes to be the killer.

Grilled, Chilled and Killed: Big Lake Murder Mystery

Cozy Mystery

2nd in Series

Creekside Publishing (December 31, 2016)

Paperback: 330 pages E-Book 224 pages

ISBN-13: 978-0997234930

E-Book ASIN: B01N9GUUKU

It seems as if Emily is destined to discover dead bodies. This time she finds one of the contestants at the local barbecue cook-off dead and covered in barbecue sauce in a beer cooler. She should be used to stumbling onto corpses by now and the question of who killed the guy should pique her curiosity, but Emily decides to let Detective Lewis handle this one, at least until she figures his theory of who did the deed is wrong, wrong, wrong. Lewis’ denigration of Emily’s speculations is condescending enough to stimulate her dormant snooping skills. As the two of them go on their separate paths to find the killer, Lewis’ old partner, Toby the dirty, tobacco-spitting cop interferes in the investigation leaving Lewis with the wrong man in jail. Killers, bootleggers, barbecue and feral pigs—it’s a lethal game of hide and seek in the Florida swamp.

About The Author

Lesley retired from her life as a professor of psychology and reclaimed her country roots by moving to a small cottage in the Butternut River Valley in Upstate New York. In the winter she migrates to old Florida—cowboys, scrub palmetto and open fields of grazing cattle, a place where spurs still jingle in the post office, and gators make golf a contact sport. Back north, the shy ghost inhabiting the cottage serves as her literary muse. When not writing, she gardens, cooks, frequents yard sales and renovates the 1874 cottage with the help of her husband, two cats and, of course, Fred the ghost, who gives artistic direction to their work. She is the author of a number of mystery series and mysteries as well as short stories. The third book in the Eve Appel murders (from Camel Press) A Sporting Murder was awarded a Readers’ Favorite Five Star Award and her short story Gator Aid a Sleuthfest (2009) short story first place. She has fired the alligator that served as her literary muse when she is in Florida and is interviewing applicants for the position.

THE SHEIKH’S BOUGHT WIFE by Sharon Kendrick, tour, Q&A, Playlist

THE SHEIKH’S BOUGHT WIFE

By Sharon Kendrick

Marry a sheikh in return for a hefty financial reward? Jane Smith, a shy researcher, normally would have laughed in Zayed Al Zawba’s handsome face. Except it’s only for six months and the money will rescue her sister, who’s caught up in debt.

Sheikh Zayed will do anything to inherit Kafalah’s neighboring oil-rich lands. Even if he has to wed plain Jane, though he’ll never long to consummate a marriage with her. But Zayed never imagined that Jane’s frumpy clothes were hiding such delicious curves, or that her quick mind and untouched beauty would tease and tempt him beyond his wildest imagination.

Song Playlist: A prepared playlist of songs that embodies the book’s characters and their love story.

To be honest, I rarely think in terms of music for my characters – because that kind of pins them down to someone else’s image, rather than my own.  At a push, I would choose “Lara’s Theme” from the film Dr Zhivago (because it is one of the most stirring, sweeping and romantic pieces of all time).  I’d also choose the band America’s “A Horse With No Name” because it always makes me dream of deserts!  And lastly, I’d go for Robin Thicke’s provocative “Blurred Lines” – which is very saucy and erotic – just like my dashing Sheikh hero, Zayed.

SHARON KENDRICK began telling stories at the age of 11 and never stopped. She enjoys writing fast-paced, feel-good romances, as well as music, books, cooking and eating. She lives in England with her two children.

Flynn’s Firecracker by Dale Mayer blog tour, & review

Welcome to Flynn’s Firecracker, book 5 in Heroes for Hire, reconnecting readers with the unforgettable men from SEALs of Honor in a new series of action packed, page turning romantic suspense that fans have come to expect from USA TODAY Bestselling author Dale Mayer.

Some jobs are more pleasant than others…

Flynn agrees to do a security job for Levi as a trial run for more work. Looking after Anna and her animal shelter is a breeze. Trouble free. Until he leaves…

Having Flynn around was both good and bad. To have the help at the shelter was huge, but they drew sparks just being around each other. She tells herself she’s relieved when he’s gone but when a dead man shows up, she’d do anything to have him back.

Someone is after Flynn… and he doesn’t care who he kills in the process…

My review:

Flynn agrees to do a security job for Levi as a trial run for more work. Looking after Anna and her animal shelter is a breeze. Trouble free.

When Flynn leaves Anna is happy but also misses him when a dead man shows up.  Has Flynn’s past come back to haunt him?

The title fits Anna she is a real fire cracker when it comes to her animals.  I can’t blame her we all love our fur babies.  I love this series and can’t wait for the next one.  The authors knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seats.

I voluntarily received an ARC for my honest review.

Real Deal by Piper Rayne blog tour, excerpt and giveaway

REAL DEAL

(Single Dads Club #1)

A Sexy RomCom Standalone

EXCERPT

There are at least ten camp counselors currently standing in the water watching the children, and six of them are female. Victor doesn’t understand the epidemic he’s going to have on his hands. The longer I sit there, the more dads find their way down to the lake, thinking it’s an everyday Thursday pickup. To their surprise, it’s a teenage boy’s wet dream. And maybe that teenage boy’s dad’s, too.

Caterina is laughing with another female counselor. I never noticed how her cheeks rise into two small apples when she smiles. Nor did I notice the way her hands cover her mouth to stifle a laugh or how she briefly touches the other person’s arm when she’s amused. Damn, I want to pull that reaction out of her.

But all I’ve gotten this week since camp started is a few polite smiles and ‘hello Mr. Kent.’ She hasn’t acted as though I’ve seen more of her than what that bikini she’s wearing reveals.

“What did I miss?” Dane sits down next to me, trying to catch his breath.

“What the hell do you do all day that you can’t be here on time?”

He glances over to me and then concentrates ahead of him. I can’t blame him, we don’t get views like this in Climax Cove very often.

“Does Victor realize he’s giving every dad here beat off material for tonight?” Dane asks. A few of the dads milling about laugh, knowing it’s true.

A small ball of anger begins brewing in my center. The idea of these dickheads thinking about what’s under the blue bikini hugging Cat’s tits gets under my skin. That beat off material is for me and only me.

“And to answer your question, I had to go down to the county for some paperwork.”

Dane’s been doing some heavy renovations to Happy Daze the last few years, expanding and making it a more family-friendly bar and grill during the day.

“Sorry, that sucks.”

Both of us continue our conversation as we pretend to watch our children. I can multitask though. My gaze veers to Lily to make sure she’s not drowning, but she’s taken swimming lessons since she was one, so I don’t have to worry too much.

“We can talk about that shit later.” Dane waves me off. “Fuck, this is so not fair. How is my kid getting more action than I’ve seen this week?” He bites his fist, watching Toby and his friends pour a bucket of water over his camp counselor’s head. Her yellow bikini doesn’t exactly hide the fact the water might have been slightly chilly.

Lily looks away from the action in the lake, finds me sitting there, and smiles. “Why do I suddenly feel dirty?” I mumble to myself.

Lily runs from the lake and Caterina says something to one of the other counselors and follows Lily’s path. Our eyes lock, but Cat is quick to shift her focus elsewhere.

“Daddy!” Lily screams and jumps into my arms, soaking me in the process.

“Hi, sweetie.” I prop her on my knee.

“Hi, Uncle Dane,” her sweet voice says.

I clear my throat so he’ll turn his attention from the lake to my daughter. Dane turns to me, back to the lake, and then realizes why I’m clearing my throat.

“Hey, kiddo. Swim day, huh?” He leans back on his hands, focusing his attention on her.

“Come.” She jumps down from my lap and grabs my hand.

“No, sweetie. I’ll wait until you’re done. Go have fun with your friends.”

She smiles and runs off.

“Damn, a little warning, huh? I’m practically tucking my dick between my legs,” Dane says and shifts in his seat.

“Um, how do you think I feel?”

“Who’s the dickhead?” Dane asks, head nodding to the lake.

One of the male camp counselors approaches Cat. She laughs at his joke and shakes her head. I don’t miss the way his eyes light up when she puts her hand on his forearm.

“Who?” I pretend my heart isn’t skipping beats from the adrenaline coursing through my system. Just call me a fucking caveman.

“Yeah, okay. Your eyes have been glued to one counselor, in particular, this whole week.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I glance around to make sure no other parents overheard us.

“Is that how you’re gonna play it?” he asks, turning toward me and raising his eyebrows in question.

I say nothing, watching the dickhead pick up Caterina by the waist, her squealing and him dropping her in the deeper part of the lake. She stands up and now she’s dripping wet in her blue bikini that probably matches the color of my balls.

Once again, I swear her gaze veers over to me as she pushes her hands through her drenched hair. Before I can be certain, she’s concentrating on the kids again. She claps her hands and announces swim time is over for her group.

“Man, your chick is a fun sponge,” Dane says because Toby’s camp counselor is still in a water battle with her kids.

I push off the picnic table to head over to pick up Lily and gather her things.

BLURB
Red Flags…

Too loud.

Too clingy.

Too much make-up.

I could go on and on. The other guys in the Single Dad’s Club would say I’m obsessed with finding them. But none of their kid’s mothers call a maximum-security prison home either, so their opinions mean shit.

Caterina Santora has her own list of red flags…

She’s too young.

She’s my client’s daughter.

She’s my five-year old’s camp counselor.

Even after repeating this mantra to myself every morning on the way to Lily’s summer camp, guess what happens the moment I see Cat? Yeah, that mantra turns into ride me, doggie style and reverse cowgirl.

Every. Damn. Time.

The fact that she doesn’t remember me from six years before grates on me until I don’t have it in me to leave her alone any longer. I have to have her. But our lives are opposites in every way. In no way compatible.

When we’re together all the complications fade away and I have to keep reminding myself, even if I can have her— I can’t keep her.

LUCAS by Delores Fossen, Tour, Q&A, Recipe and more

LUCAS

By USA Today bestselling author

Delores Fossen

A Texas Lawman will do anything to protect his son – even if it includes reuniting with the boy’s on-the-run mother…

Lucas Ryland has always had a way with the ladies. That is, until Hailey Darrow dropped him after a single night of passion. Then he discovered her unconscious body in a wrecked car with a fake ID and enough money to disappear. Unbeknown to him, the one who got away was leaving town with his baby…

Now Hailey is out of her coma, but still in danger. However, hiding her at his Silver Creek ranch ignites old passions and introduces new threats. Lucas must use every protective instinct in his arsenal to keep Hailey and their infant son safe. And to keep his body from remembering how good it felt to hold her in his arms.

Bon Appétit and a Book: A delicious recipe to enjoy alongside the book.

This is my latest guilty pleasure. I spread it on plain vanilla cupcakes.

Key Lime Frosting

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 teaspoons Key lime zest

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

2 cups of powdered sugar

3 tablespoons Key lime juice

1 to 2 Tbsp. Half and half

Cream butter and sugar together and then mix in other ingredients. Then, enjoy!

Q & A

What is your favorite part about writing LUCAS?

LUCAS is the 12th book in the Lawmen of Silver Creek series so I really enjoyed visiting with all the cowboy heroes from the previous stories. It was like going home to a family reunion.

Is there anyone who you based Lucas and Hailey off of, or who you drew your inspiration from?

I was inspired by Rayland Givens from Justified. I thought he had that edge that I wanted Lucas to have.

How many books have you written? Is there one that you would consider your favorite?

LUCAS is my 88th published Harlequin, and I’ve written 12 other books. It’s so hard to pick a favorite, but I think for now it’s BRANDED AS TROUBLE, an HQN that comes out July 1st.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember, but I didn’t begin writing seriously until my kids were old enough to start to school.

What is your favorite thing about writing contemporary romance?

It’s fun to “build” the ranch where my cowboy heroes and heroines live. And, of course, the best part is creating happily-ever-afters for them.

What is the biggest misconception about your genre?

That the books are easy to write and all the same. They’re very different, and they’re definitely not easy. It takes a lot of work to pull a story together.

What are a few of your favorite books? Do you have any recommendations?

I have SO many favorite books and authors. I love B.J. Daniels, Julie Miller and Lori Wilde. I also read Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

What are your future projects are you working on?

I’m working on three new HQN books for my Wrangler’s Creek series. They’ll be out in 2018.

Do you have any tips for people suffering from writer’s block?

I think it helps to make a schedule and then stick to it. That way, I know what I’m supposed to be doing every day.

10)Do you have any advice for new writers?

Write as much as you can and experiment with various ways to do the same scene. That’s how to learn the best way to tell the story.

         Review

Kelsey is planning the wedding for Krissie and Eddie, Kesley’s ex husband.  Talk about awkward.  Krissie insists on the wedding to be held at Barton Farm.  The bride to be wants things her way and some things are a hazzard and Kelsey has to tell her how it is really going to be.  Kelsey finds Vianna ( the planner ) dead outside the church with a string of lights dangling from a window.  Kelsey takes it upon herself to find out what really happened and can she get this done before Krisse’s big dream wedding?

I loved the characters they are all likable.  The plot is well done and the reader will be kept guessing and shocked to find out who the real killer is.  The spoiled bride make this book a funny read.

I received an ARC and voluntarily reviewed.

Synopsis

The play’s the thing, but it’s the star-studded after-party that sends sparks flying

Thrilled that their friend’s Broadway debut was a rousing success, Nic and Nigel Martini, along with Nic’s college pal Harper, are trying to enjoy the exclusive after-party. Unfortunately, all the champagne and repartee in the world aren’t enough to overlook the churlish behavior of Harper’s husband, Dan. Nic is shocked the next morning when she learns that Dan’s been murdered. Nigel thinks the world may be a better place without him.

Still, Harper’s their friend and they’re intent on helping her any way they can. The Martinis will stop at nothing—with the possible exception of cocktails and walks with their bull mastiff Skippy—to see that the killer ends up behind bars.

Review

About The Author –

Tracy Kiely is a self-proclaimed Anglophile (a fact which distresses certain members of her Irish Catholic family). She grew up reading Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and watching Hitchcock movies. She fell in love with Austen’s wit, Christie’s clever plots, and Hitchcock’s recurrent theme of “the average man caught in extraordinary circumstances.”

After spending years of trying to find a proper job that would enable her to use her skills garnered as an English major, she decided to write a book. It would, of course, have to be a mystery; it would have to be funny; and it would have to feature an average person caught up in extraordinary circumstances. She began to wonder how the characters in Pride and Prejudice might fit into a mystery. What, if after years of living with unbearably rude and condescending behavior, old Mrs. Jenkins up and strangled Lady Catherine? What if Charlotte snapped one day and poisoned Mr. Collins’ toast and jam? Skip ahead several years, and several different plot ideas, and you have her first mystery Murder at Longbourn.

While she does not claim to be Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, or Hitchcock (one big reason being that they’re all dead), she has tried to combine the elements of all three in her books.

But there’s no choice – cupid has a soft spot for SEALS and he’s lined his sights up on Devlin next. :)The right place at the right time… or the very wrong place…

As part of a group helping to training Iraq soldiers, Devin is doing additional training on how to use the latest drones. But when a murder is committed on the base and suspicion is thrown on the drone’s designer, he can’t stop himself from helping her. When they return stateside, another employee in the same company is murdered. Once again suspicion falls on the designer. And as tension climbs, Devin wonders who will be next…

Bristol didn’t want to take her latest drone models to Iraq, but she was behind schedule and her bosses were pushing.

Then disaster strikes, and she’s the one everyone blames. She loses her research and her best friend, and now she’s determined to find out who did this… no matter how dangerous it is.

The killer isn’t done. He got what he wanted but there’s more that he needs… and he’ll kill to get it. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time…

My review:

I love this series and it keeps getting better and better.  It has been nice to see Devin grow up so to speak through out this series and to have his own story was great.

The book features some past characters which was nice to see again.

After meeting Bristol it doesn’t take too long for Devin to come around like his brothers and want a long term relationship. She didn’t want to even come to the training to begin with. From rescuing her and protecting he falls hard.  There are some twist to keep the reader on their toes.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Till Dirt Do Us Part by Teresa Trent blog tour & review

Till Death Do Us Part

by Teresa Trent

Till Death Do Us Part by Teresa Trent

Cozy Mystery

Pecan Bayou #7

Approximately 219 pages

Not everything stays buried. When Betsy, a notorious brown thumb gets roped into a gardening contest sponsored by the Pecan Bayou Gazette, she finds herself digging up more than weeds. She is ridiculed by the garden club ladies, and now her heart breaks for a newly single mom whose world has just collapsed. The Happy Hinter is back so take some time to revisit the cozy little town Pecan Bayou, Texas. Grab a glass of sweet tea before you turn the dirt in the garden and sit a spell with all your favorite characters who dole out heartfelt caring and compassion with a side of humor. Till Dirt Do Us Part includes bonus recipes and helpful hints from Betsy’s column!

My thoughts:

Get ready to have some laugh out loud moments in this story.  The puns are great.  Pecan Bayou reminds me of the south which I live and love. A dirty delivery with a dead body is not what Betsy was expecting or anyone else for that matter. Gossip and family is what makes this a great story not to mention all the characters.  This is the first book I have read in this series but at the same time I did not feel I was left out of anything.  I will be reading the other stories.  A great read you will find yourself turning the pages faster and faster.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s begins an all-new series of rugged cowboys.

“This is an emotional star-crossed lovers tale with tangible depths and an attitude that’s relatable to real life.” –RT Book Reviews

Last time Lila Harris was in Happy, Texas, she was actively earning her reputation as the resident wild child. Now, a little older and wiser, she’s back to run her mother’s café for the summer. Except something about this town has her itching to get a little reckless and rowdy, especially when she sees her old partner-in-crime, Brody Dawson. Their chemistry is just as hot as ever. But he’s still the town’s golden boy-and she’s still the wrong kind of girl.

Brody hasn’t had much time lately for anything other than ranching. Running the biggest spread in the county and taking care of his family more than keeps him busy. All that responsibility has him longing for the carefree days of high school—and Lila. She may have grown up, but he still sees that spark of mischief in her eyes. Now he’s dreaming about late-night skinny dipping and wondering how he can possibly resist the one woman he can never forget…

TOUGHEST COWBOY IN TEXAS Teaser Excerpt

She picked up her pace, but Brody matched his long strides with hers.

“Don’t feel like you have to walk me my vehicle. I’m a big girl and I’ve been takin’ care of myself for years.”

“You’ve always been able to take care of yourself, Lila, but I want to walk with you.” His hand went to her lower back.

The intense heat would probably leave an imprint on her back for days, but she didn’t argue or shrug his hand away.

When they reached her bright pink truck, he gave a low whistle. “Nice.”

She found her keys and touched a button that started the engine. “I left the motorcycle at home.”

“Oh, really?” His expression said that he didn’t believe her.

“Yep, I didn’t want to get to the bar and have helmet head.”

“Are you serious?”

“Why would you be so surprised? I am, after all, the resident wild child of Happy, Texas. I’m surprised there’s not a picture of me beside the city limits sign warning everyone to steer clear of that Lila Harris. If you rub shoulders with her, you get an instant ticket to hell. Do not pass go. Do not collect two hundred dollars. Just get ready for the ride.”

“Motorcycles are dangerous. You shouldn’t…”

She laid a finger over his lips. “When we were back in high school, I stayed on that bull for eight seconds and climbed to the top of the water tower. You didn’t fuss at me about those things, but wait—you were right there too. Well, darlin’, buy a Harley and we’ll terrorize Happy together.”

Brody stepped closer, penning her against the truck door. She put both hands on his chest with intentions of pushing him away, but she made the mistake of looking up into his eyes. Lashes slowly closed to rest on his cheek bones and she barely had time to moisten her lips before she was swept away by a scorching hot kiss.

She knew she should push him back, but instead her arms went around his neck and she touched his bottom lip with her tongue. He groaned and opened his mouth, deepening the kiss into fiery hot passion. She would have been there until daylight, but he finally stepped back, picked up her hand and kissed her palm twice.

“One kiss for the Lila I remember, and the other for the woman that she’s become. Both are very special.”  Then Brody turned and disappeared into the darkness.
