If it ain’t one dead body it’s another, as once again Emily stumbles over one. This time it’s a contestant in the local barbecue contest. It seems someone is taking things a bit too seriously.
Detective Lewis and Emily tangle up once again as she practices her snooping skills and he sniffs around her skirt. Yep, the romantic sparks from the first book have produced a small fire. There’s no denying they’re attracted to each other, whether they like it or not.

This book was just as much fun to read as the first one, if not more so. This time around, Emily discovers a dead body at the local barbecue cook-off. Once again, Detective Lewis finds it "suspicious" that she has discovered the victim, and treats her like the prime suspect.
The characters from the first book return, including the two villians (they just won't go away!). This time around, Emily and crew face bootleggers and feral pigs while trying to solve the murder. You can just imagine the hu ...more

I enjoyed this book as much as the first book since all the characters were back including a few "bad" guys (they just weren't the killers in the first book!). There are even some new characters added to this story that may just be passing through, but perhaps we will see them in book 3. It is interesting how Emily is still treated as a Yankee and a visitor even though she has lived in this town for quite some time. Maybe one of these years she will be treated as one of the gang and not an outsi

Emily Shook is an expert to find dead bodies and to snoop at the murders cases, for desperation of the police is quite good at it. This time the murder is soaked with barbecue sauce and a lot of rivals that could be the killers...
Ready to be Grilled, Chilled and Killed?
This is quite a mystery; with a lot of characters and some secrets that will surprise you, no wonder we have a dead body!

You may enjoy this best if you had read the previous book in the series, Dumpster Dying (Big Lake Murder Mysteries, #1) , but it reads well enough as a stand alone.
Emily is a petite spitfire trying to establish a new normal after the loss of her longtime love.
Now there are two men who may be trying to make a love connection with her and they are total opposites. The only thing they seem to have in common is a competitive nature and a desire to keep Emily from causing herself harm. That is a ful ...more

Lesley Diehl does it again in book 2 of the Big Lake Series.
Emily returns with the complete cast from book 1 along with the two villains from book 1. These guys just don't seem to
go away!
Book 2 is centered around a Barbque cook off that starts just a few pages in with Emily once again discovering a dead body.
Of course in walks Detective Lewis and everything 'heats up'.
A few new characters are introduced along the way as Emily
and crew search for clues and run from trouble.

Poor Emily...she keeps getting herself into these situations one way or another. In the second installment of this series, she stumbles across yet another body except this time, it's at a barbecue cook-off in Texas. This was another fun read by this author with humorous elements and twists I did not see coming!

4.5 out of 5 stars rounded up.
Grilled, Chilled, and Killed is the second book in the Big Lake Murders series. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. While it didn't have that extra pizzazz that throws it up to a 5-star read for me, it was still delightful. This installment finds our characters dealing with Emily finding a murder victim at the local barbecue cook-off.

Emily Rhodes is still considered a "winter visitor" when it comes to the other Florida residents in town, but she's definitely earning her stripes in this book as she finds herself embroiled in barbecue competitions, running from feral pigs, and poking around in the secretive business of moonshine. Throw in a dead body and a romance that is more aggravation than anything else, and Emily is in for another wild mystery.

Emily Rhodes, a retired preschool teacher, lives in rural Florida and works as a bartender to supplement her small pension. To make a little extra money, she agrees to work at a local barbeque cook-off. When she finds a dead body covered in barbeque sauce in the beer cooler, she decides to stay out of it and let Detective Stanton Lewis do his job. Well... until she finds out that his idea of whodunit is just plain wrong. Lewis is so condescending toward her that Emily packs up her theories and s

Cows, Lesley learned as a child growing up on a farm, have a twisted sense of humor. They chased her when she went to the field to herd them in for milking, and one ate the lovely red mitten her grandmother knitted for her. Determining that agriculture wasn’t her career path, she took a job as a stripper, book cover stripper for a publishing company, that is. Now after many years as a college prof
