A Crime of Passion Fruit

by Ellie Alexander

A Crime of Passion Fruit (A Bakeshop Mystery)

Cozy Mystery

6th in Series

St. Martin’s Paperbacks (June 27, 2017)

Mass Market Paperback: 288 pages

ISBN-13: 978-1250088079

E-Book ASIN: B01MRU56AS

Torte―everybody’s favorite small-town family bakeshop―is headed for the high seas, where murder is about to make a splash. . .

Jules Capshaw is trying to keep her cool as Torte gets set to make its transformation from quaint, local confectionary café to royal pastry palace. Meanwhile, Jules’s estranged husband Carlos is making a desperate plea for her to come aboard his cruise ship and dazzle everyone with her signature sweets. She may be skeptical about returning to her former nautical life with Carlos but Jules can’t resist an all-expense-paid trip, either. If only she knew that a dead body would find its way onto the itinerary . .

“A warm and inviting atmosphere, friendly and likable main characters, and a nasty murder mystery to solve!” ―Fresh Fiction

Now, instead of enjoying tropical drinks on deck between whipping up batches of sea-salted chocolates and flambéing fresh pineapple slices in the kitchen, Jules is plunged into dangerous waters. Her investigation leaves her with more questions than answers: Why can’t anyone on board identify the young woman? And how can she help Carlos keep passengers at ease with a killer in their midst? Jules feels like she’s ready to jump ship. Can she solve this case without getting in too deep?

“A perfect mix for fans of Jenn McKinlay, Leslie Budewitz, or Jessica Beck.”

IN THE COWBOW’S ARMS by Vicki Lewis, Guest Post, Q & A & Spotlight

IN THE COWBOY’S ARMS

By Vicki Lewis Thompson

Matt Forrest was born to be an actor, but grew up at Thunder Mountain Ranch as a cowboy. So when things go haywire after shooting his first Hollywood movie, he retreats to his childhood home where he knows his parents and foster brothers can help him figure out what he really wants out of life.

But PR agent, Geena Lysander, isn’t about to lose one of her best new clients—so she follows him. And things get complicated because she’s attracted to Matt, and not just for his handsome, movie-star good looks. As she gets to know the man behind the cowboy, their professional relationship becomes passionately personal. Could Matt’s next big role be as Geena’s leading man?

Movie Star Cast: The author picks movie stars to play the characters in a movie

Matt Forrest: Because Matt actually is a movie star in the story, I wanted an image of a traditionally gorgeous guy. I’d picked out Henry Cavill to play Matt before I ever started writing.

Geena Lysander: Instead of a movie star, I chose Kate Middleton to play Geena. I’m hoping that Will doesn’t mind.

Rosie Padgett: I’d cast Kathy Bates as Rosie. Yes, she played a memorable villain in Misery, but she’s a fabulous actor and would do a great job as the matriarch of Thunder Mountain Ranch. She’s the one who worked in social services and who started the ranch’s legacy by bringing a homeless boy home with her.

Herb Padgett: I had to search for Herb, but I finally found him. Singer and actor James Darren is about fifteen years older than Herb would be, but he has the right face for a man who’s both a large animal vet and the devoted foster father of more than two dozen boys.

Cade Gallagher: I’d cast Channing Tatum as Cade, the first boy to arrive at the ranch, the one who created the Thunder Mountain Brotherhood and arguably the most memorable of the foster brothers. Because Cade is related to the Chance brothers from the Sons of Chance series, he’s the link between the two. He appears in all the Thunder Mountain books.

Lexi Simmons: I picked Audrey Tautou to play Lexi because she rocks the short curly brown hair look that is so Lexi. Audrey starred opposite Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code. Although she’s French, I’m sure she could manage an American accent for the role of Cade’s soul mate.

Q & A

What is your favorite part about writing In the Cowboy’s Arms

Hollywood newcomer Matt Forrest is falsely accused of behaving dishonorably. I loved writing the scenes where his foster family stands behind him because they all know he would never do such a thing. Warms my heart.

Is there anyone who you based Matt and Geena off of, or who you drew your inspiration from?

Matt is a little like my son, who’s the nicest guy in the world, and he sometimes blunders into a dicey situation because he sees the best in everyone.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be writer?

I’ve been writing since I was eight, but I didn’t realize I could make money at it until I was in my thirties.

What is your favorite thing about writing contemporary romance?

I get to play with modern-day slang! It’s tricky because some words stick and others fade. The word “cool” is one of the few that’s survived over several generations.

How many books have you written? Is there one that you would consider your favorite?

About 150. That would be like picking a favorite child! But if I had to choose a recent one, it would be CLAIMED!, the third book in my Sons of Chance series. I heart Jack Chance.

What future projects are you working on?

More cowboy stories! I love writing them.

Do you have any advice for new writers?

Don’t be intimidated by the success of others. Everyone starts at zero so leap into the current and swim like hell. It’s not an easy way to make a living, but it’s incredibly rewarding.

Paperback: 308 pages

ISBN-13: 978-1544277967

ASIN: B06XQP5VYZ

Meet the Penningtons: Lyssa, Ph.D. Economics, and her husband “the handsome Brit” Kyle, Ph.D. Computer Science. When their clever minds ask questions, clever killers can’t hide.

Murder never entered the picture until Fritz Van Derzee decided, at long last, to clear his name. Who stuck a jeweled stiletto into his desktop after stabbing him to death? Fritz’s daughter, Emma, recruits her former professor Lyssa Pennington to find the killer.

But where’s the ten million Fritz was falsely accused of embezzling? Tompkins College President, Justin Cushman, hires his old friend Kyle Pennington to trace the missing money.

While Lyssa uses charm and tenacity on the long list of suspects, Kyle reconstructs the college’s old homegrown finance system. As they converge on the killer, Lyssa and Kyle may be the next two casualties.

About The Author

C. T. Collier was born to solve logic puzzles, wear tweed, and drink Earl Grey tea. Her professional experience in cutthroat high tech and backstabbing higher education gave her endless opportunity to study intrigue. Add to that her longtime love of mysteries, and it’s no wonder she writes academic mysteries that draw inspiration from traditional whodunits. Her setting is entirely fictional: Tompkins College is no college and every college, and Tompkins Falls is a blend of several Finger Lakes towns, including her hometown, Seneca Falls, NY (AKA Bedford Falls from It’s a Wonderful Life).

The Decorator Who Knew Too Much by Diane Vallere book review

When Interior Decorator Madison Night accepts an assignment in Palm Springs with handyman Hudson James, she expects designing days and romantic nights. But after spotting a body in the river by the job site, she causes a rift in the team. Add in the strain of recurring nightmares and a growing dependency on sleeping pills, and Madison seeks professional help to deal with her demons.

She learns more about the crime than she’d like thanks to girl talk with friends, pillow talk with Hudson, and smack talk with the local bad boys. And after the victim is identified as the very doctor she’s been advised to see, she wonders if what she knows can help catch a killer. An unlikely ally helps navigate the murky waters before her knowledge destroys her, and this time, what she doesn’t know might be the one thing that saves her life.

My thoughts:

Madison Night is fantastic character with her likeness to Doris Day was a great twist. Her boyfriend Hudson James is a unique man himself and a handyman.

The secondary characters are just as fun with Emma and Jimmy and others.

You are kept guessing until the end of who did what.

I love Diane Vallere’s books. She knows how to keep the reader turning the pages with great characters and plot.

I received an ARC and I voluntarily reviewed.

The Trouble with Harriet by Dorothy Cannell blog tour, review & giveaway

The Trouble with Harriet

by Dorothy Cannell

The Trouble with Harriet: An Ellie Haskell Mystery

Cozy Mystery

8th in Series

Alibi (June 13, 2017)

Print Length 288 Pages

ASIN: B01LYUULP3

In a murder mystery so charming it could only have come from Dorothy Cannell—hailed by Nancy Pickard as “America’s P. G. Wodehouse”—Ellie Haskell is shocked when her long-lost father shows up on her doorstep with some rather . . . compromising baggage.

Ellie Haskell and her husband, Ben, haven’t taken a vacation in years. Now their suitcases are packed, their tickets are booked, and they’re ready for a romantic getaway in France. But everything goes awry after a chain-smoking fortune teller makes a dire prediction: “Take that trip at your peril!” Those ominous words ring true when Ellie’s prodigal father, Morley, suddenly appears with the remains of his ladylove, Harriet, whose untimely death in a car accident has left him bereft.

But after Morley loses the urn in a bizarre series of events, Harriet’s family is furious. Now a bewildered Ellie finds herself asks some probing questions: Who or what was in that urn? Could her father be a pawn in a deadly game? And what exactly is the meaning of that darn prophecy? Ellie just hopes she lives to find out whether the answers are worth the trouble.

Praise for Dorothy Cannell and the Ellie Haskell series

“A thoroughly entertaining series.”—Cosmopolitan

“It is the absurd predicaments of her central characters that readers find themselves recalling, and Cannell is cunning at devising outlandish situations for them.”—Chicago Sun-Times

“Cannell is a master of subtle wit and humorous asides that lift her cozies to great heights. Before the influx of writers trying to out-humor Janet Evanovich, there was Dorothy Cannell. Long may she write!”—Library Journal

My thoughts:

Ellie’s father arrives in Chitterton Fells right when Ellie and Ben are leaving on a long over due trip. He is carrying the supposed urn with his recently-deceased love Harriet’s ashes, which he is supposed to turn over to the woman’s family.

Through a series of mishaps the ashes disappear and there a frantic search for them.

The characters are well developed and this is the first book in the series I have read.

I received an ARC and I voluntarily reviewed.

FAT GIRL BEGONE by D.E. Haggerty, blog tour, giveaway & review

Fat Girl Begone

by D.E. Haggerty

Fat Girl Begone!

Self Published

Print Length: 235 pages

Publication Date: May 1, 2017

ASIN: B06XTSHJHB

I’m a total mess. My boyfriend dumped me – get this – because I diet too much. Not because I’m fat, mind you. Of course, this spurs me into the diet-fitness-revenge-plan of the century, which leads me to the gym and a scorching hot personal trainer. I even manage to make some cool new friends, including a millionaire if you can believe it. Things are looking up! Naturally, that’s the moment my ex decides he wants me back, the personal trainer asks me out, and my millionaire male buddy decides to throw his hat in the ring. But that’s not enough drama. No, not for me. Because I’ve also lost my job and decided to start my own business. Just call me Ms. Drama.

Warning: Bad language, bumpy roads, and embarrassing moments ahead. But there’s also more than a bit of romance and even, if we’re lucky, love. Fingers crossed.

Not endorsed by or affiliated with any brand of tequila.

My thoughts:

Fat GIrl Begone is a fun story that anyone can relate to.  Everly is having a really bad day. Her boyfriend dumps her because she diets too much and doesn’t love herself.  Her best friend Blaze takes her to the gym to work out.

while working out she figures out by making friends that her ex is a jerk and now two guys are interested in her.  Will it be her trainer or the member of the gym?

I loved this book as I could relate to Everly and her dieting.  The book is funny and the author once again does an excellent job with the characters and plot.

I received an ARC and I voluntarily reviewed.

About The Author

I grew-up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before deciding to follow the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Fat girl Begone! is my eleventh book.

Their Pretend Amish Courtship by Marta Kennerson, recipe, Q&A & book spotlight

ALWAYS MY BABY

by bestselling and award-winning author

Martha Kennerson

China Edwards is an ambitious environmental attorney who pursues every goal with drive and dedication, and having a baby is no different. No husband? No problem. She’ll find the perfect donor. Then, after one spontaneous and passionate night with bachelor Alexander Kingsley, these two longtime friends are left with an unanticipated benefit that throws China’s future plans into turmoil.

China’s bright, legal mind and friendship are indispensable to Alexander and his multibillion dollar oil firm. However, the possibility of her moving on makes him realize just how deep his feelings actually run. After their all-business relationship takes a wildly erotic detour, Alexander is drawn into a company scandal that rocks his life. With trust in tatters, can an unplanned bundle of joy lead them to become the family they never expected?

Recipe

Bon Appétit and a Book: A delicious recipe to enjoy alongside the book.

One of my favorite comfort foods that would go well with this book is shrimp and grits. Here’s an excellent recipe:

Bring water to a boil. Add salt and pepper. Add grits and cook until water is absorbed, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in butter and cheese.
Rinse shrimp and pat dry. Fry the bacon in a large skillet until browned; drain well. In grease, add shrimp. Cook until shrimp turn pink. Add lemon juice, chopped bacon, parsley, scallions and garlic. Sauté for 3 minutes.
Spoon grits into a serving bowl. Add shrimp mixture and mix well. Serve immediately.

Q & A

ALWAYS MY BABY by Martha Kennerson

What is your favorite part about writing for Always My Baby?

The best part of having the opportunity to write Always My Baby was having the ability to showcase a real friendship between China and Alexander. Even when things start to change between them, and their lives start taking them in different directions, safe guarding their friendship remains their priority.

What are the traits you admire most in China and Alexander?

I admire China’s ability to wrap the vulnerability she thinks her love for Alexander brings out, in her confidence and independence.

How long does it typically take for you to write a book?

It typically takes me two months to create the story and two additional months to make final edits.

What else do you love to do besides writing?

Other than writing, I love spending time with family and friends enjoying good food and music.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be writer?

I’ve always written in some form or another throughout my professional career. Only in the last five years have I been able to bring my desire to write romance to fruition.

What is your favorite thing about writing contemporary romance?

I enjoy writing contemporary romance because all the places I can take the story. I love the creative freedom it gives me.

What are a few of your favorite books? Do you have any recommendations?

I have an eclectic taste when it comes to my choice in books. I’m a big fan of romance and mystery. As far as recommendations goes, for all things romance, you can’t go wrong with any of the Harlequin novels; there’s something for everyone. When it comes to mystery, I’m a big fan of Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series.

What book are you currently reading right now?

I don’t read for pleasure while I’m working on my own book. However the book I finished just before I started my current project was Sister Betty says I Do by Christian Comedienne Pat G’Orge-Walker.

What future projects are you working on?

I’m currently working on the third installment in my Kingsley of Texas series.

10)Do you have any advice for new writers?

The one piece of advice I’d give new writers is to write. Just write. Don’t worry about anything other than telling your story.
