WANTED: TEXAS DADDY by Cathy Gillen Thacker, Recipe, Q & A and Spotlight

WANTED: TEXAS DADDY

By Cathy Gillen Thacker

All small towns have their secrets. No one in Laramie, Texas knows about Sage Lockhart’s friends-with-benefits relationship with the handsome cowboy, Nick Monroe. However, Sage wants something more from Nick—something that could change the very nature of their arrangement. She wants to have his baby.

Nick has always wanted to take things with Sage to the next level. Having a child wasn’t exactly what he had in mind, but it’s an adventure he can’t refuse. Of course, neither of them realized just how complicated things could get.

Now, with a baby on the way and all of their careful plans unraveling, Sage and Nick must face the one secret they’ve been hiding from themselves…and from each other.

Bon Appetit and a Book:

Chipotle Chicken Roll-Ups

Spread flour tortillas with thin layer of chipotle mayonnaise.  Sprinkle on shredded Monterey jack, and Cheddar cheese.  Add shredded roast chicken, thinly sliced tomato, red onion, avocado, and cilantro.  Roll up, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until ready to eat.   (Available for a quick lunch at Sage’s bistro, The Cowgirl Chef café.)

Q & A

What was your favorite part about writing WANTED: TEXAS DADDY?

I loved having a pregnant heroine, and doting daddy-to-be.

What was challenging about writing this book?

I covered the entire pregnancy, from the first mention of having a child together, to bringing baby home from the hospital.  A lot of ground to cover in 55,000 words!

How would you describe the relationship between Sage and Nick?

Committed.  They started out as great friends, became lovers and then finally husband and wife.

How did you come up with their names? Do they mean anything specific?

Nick is a guy’s guy, so I wanted him to have a name that was both masculine and accessible.  Sage is a popular girl’s name in the southwest—probably because the plant is both hardy and evergreen and beautifully blooming.  Sage really blossoms in response to Nick’s love and attention.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be writer?

I started dreaming up stories when I was eleven-adding details to the story was how I put myself to sleep most nights.  I got serious about putting words to page when my children were toddlers.

If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?

Teach.

What else do you love to do besides writing?

Spend time with family.  Garden, read, listen to music, watch TV and movies to feed my voracious appetite for ‘story’.

What is the biggest misconception about your genre?

That the books are silly, pointless, or easily created.  A great love story stays with the reader long after the last page is read.  Creating a memorable story is a lot of work!

What future projects are you working on?

I just started a new six book series about the heroes and heroines of fictional Laramie County.

10)Do you have any advice for new writers?

Finish the book.  Taking the story from beginning all the way to the end teaches a writer more about craft, than anything else.  Then, while trying to sell the first book, start another, and finish that, too!

CATHY GILLEN THACKER is a full-time wife, mother and author who began writing stories during “nap time” when her children were toddlers. She wrote seven books as she taught herself how to be an author, and her eighth attempt was published in 1982. Since then she has written and published more than 70 novels.

Then the worst happens. While Anna is walking on the beach with her daughter, she’s attacked by a crazed teenager. Terrified, Anna reacts instinctively to protect her baby.

But her life falls apart when the schoolboy dies from his injuries. The police believe Anna’s story, until the autopsy results reveal something more sinister. A frenzied media attack sends Anna into a spiral of self-doubt. Her precarious mental state is further threatened when she receives a chilling message from someone claiming to be the “Ophelia Killer,” a serial killer who preyed on the town twenty years ago—and who abruptly stopped when Anna’s father committed suicide.

An ambitious Southern belle

Marabelle Fairchild knows she’s a gal who can get things done. Feeling unappreciated at the exclusive private school where she’s a kindergarten aide and varsity tennis coach, Marabelle determines to score with the next big fundraiser. What she doesn’t expect? A smokin’ hot football coach to throw her off her game…

A reclusive NFL bachelor…

NFL coach Nick Frasier is Raleigh’s most eligible bachelor, but he wants to focus on his career…not his playboy status. He doesn’t need a smart-mouthed, pint-sized kindergarten teacher pestering him. Why sports or specifically NFL?

Good question. Athletes who excel at their sport have always fascinated me. My eight siblings and I grew up playing sports…not that we were very good AT ALL. Let me put it another way, we weren’t allowed to not play sports. If we didn’t pick a sport, then our parents would’ve picked one for us. In our home, watching TV was not allowed on school nights, and we didn’t have cell phones or even phones (landlines) in our rooms. We were expected to either be studying or playing a sport (preferably out of the house and my mother’s hair.) Since most of us were vertically challenged, basketball was out. (Instead we are fanatical fans for UNC basketball.) My brothers played some football, but almost all of us swam, played tennis, or ran track. In school, I played field hockey, tennis and golf. Again, not very well, but I did enjoy the competition. We grew up with an appreciation for what it took to be the best at your sport. As for the NFL, my son is my inspiration. He LOVES all sports and competes with way more success than I ever did. He’s a huge football fan and can spew stats and make predictions that are scarily accurate. He really should be a color commentator, because he’s not only entertaining, but tells it like it is. So when I mentioned I was writing about an ex-quarterback turn NFL coach, he was all over my technical questions, pointing me to different players as examples. I felt fairly confident tackling football, knowing he was on my team.

What sports do you enjoy watching or playing?

Thanks for hosting me. This was great fun.

Darling Vox Box Review

I am part of the Influenster program and this box had some great products that I have not tried before today. O got them all free for product testing.  All the opinions below are my own.  As you can see from the below picture there were several things included.

I do love the free country crock coupon and will be getting it later this week.  That is the only butter spread we use.

The Live Clean the boys love.  My youngest wanted to take another bath as the smell was nice and no tears.  It is gentle and the lotion makes his skin feel so soft.

The Eva Nye I was looking forward to as my hair is on the dull side and have been looking for treatments.  I did try this today and my hair feels a bit more softer as it is supposed to hydrate your hair.  I think it works well.

This is the first day trying the Energy Gummies by Nature’s Bounty.  You need to take two gummies with a meal. Another product I am looking forward to trying and seeing how it goes.

What I love most about this product by Duncan Hines?  All the different flavors they have to choose from.  Confetti will be the next to try but for us chocolate lovers this is the best by far and for one person is great.

Always My Baby by Martha Kennerson, tour, Q & A, recipe

ALWAYS MY BABY

by bestselling and award-winning author

Martha Kennerson

China Edwards is an ambitious environmental attorney who pursues every goal with drive and dedication, and having a baby is no different. No husband? No problem. She’ll find the perfect donor. Then, after one spontaneous and passionate night with bachelor Alexander Kingsley, these two longtime friends are left with an unanticipated benefit that throws China’s future plans into turmoil.

China’s bright, legal mind and friendship are indispensable to Alexander and his multibillion dollar oil firm. However, the possibility of her moving on makes him realize just how deep his feelings actually run. After their all-business relationship takes a wildly erotic detour, Alexander is drawn into a company scandal that rocks his life. With trust in tatters, can an unplanned bundle of joy lead them to become the family they never expected?

Bon Appétit and a Book: A delicious recipe to enjoy alongside the book.

One of my favorite comfort foods that would go well with this book is shrimp and grits. Here’s an excellent recipe:

Bring water to a boil. Add salt and pepper. Add grits and cook until water is absorbed, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in butter and cheese.
Rinse shrimp and pat dry. Fry the bacon in a large skillet until browned; drain well. In grease, add shrimp. Cook until shrimp turn pink. Add lemon juice, chopped bacon, parsley, scallions and garlic. Sauté for 3 minutes.
Spoon grits into a serving bowl. Add shrimp mixture and mix well. Serve immediately.

Recipe courtesy of Martha Nesbit

What is your favorite part about writing for Always My Baby?

The best part of having the opportunity to write Always My Baby was having the ability to showcase a real friendship between China and Alexander. Even when things start to change between them, and their lives start taking them in different directions, safe guarding their friendship remains their priority.

What are the traits you admire most in China and Alexander?

I admire China’s ability to wrap the vulnerability she thinks her love for Alexander brings out, in her confidence and independence.

How long does it typically take for you to write a book?

It typically takes me two months to create the story and two additional months to make final edits.

What else do you love to do besides writing?

Other than writing, I love spending time with family and friends enjoying good food and music.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be writer?

I’ve always written in some form or another throughout my professional career. Only in the last five years have I been able to bring my desire to write romance to fruition.

What is your favorite thing about writing contemporary romance?

I enjoy writing contemporary romance because all the places I can take the story. I love the creative freedom it gives me.

What are a few of your favorite books? Do you have any recommendations?

I have an eclectic taste when it comes to my choice in books. I’m a big fan of romance and mystery. As far as recommendations goes, for all things romance, you can’t go wrong with any of the Harlequin novels; there’s something for everyone. When it comes to mystery, I’m a big fan of Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series.

What book are you currently reading right now?

I don’t read for pleasure while I’m working on my own book. However the book I finished just before I started my current project was Sister Betty says I Do by Christian Comedienne Pat G’Orge-Walker.

What future projects are you working on?

I’m currently working on the third installment in my Kingsley of Texas series.

10)Do you have any advice for new writers?

The one piece of advice I’d give new writers is to write. Just write. Don’t worry about anything other than telling your story.

Dumpster Dying & Grilled, Chilled and Killed by Lesley A. Diehl, blog tour & giveaway

Dumpster Dying & Grilled, Chilled and Killed

by Lesley A. Diehl

The setting is interesting and well-drawn, the characters are a load of fun, and the story moves fast and keeps the reader turning the pages, with just the right amount of peril.

~The Ninja Librarian reviews Dumpster Dying

Lesley A. Diehl is rapidly become a favorite! She has done it again with the Big Lake Murder Mysteries featuring Emily Rhodes…

~The Journey Back

I am loving this series. Book 2 is just as good as Book 1.

~My Reading Journeys

Dumpster Dying: Book 1 in the Big Lake Murder Mysteries Cozy Mystery

1st in Series

Creekside Publishing (December 31, 2016)

Paperback: 248 Pages E-Book 232 pages

ISBN-13: 978-0997234923

E-Book ASIN: B01MRWGBC8

Emily Rhodes came to rural Florida for the cowboys, the cattle, and to do a little country two-step, not to fall head first onto a dead body in a dumpster. Ah, the golden years of retirement in the sunshine state. They’re more like pot metal to Emily, who discovers the body of the county’s wealthiest rancher in the Big Lake Country Club dumpster. With her close friend accused of the murder, Emily sets aside her grief at her life partner’s death to find the real killer. She underestimates the obstacles rural Florida can set up for a winter visitor and runs afoul of a local judge with his own version of justice, hires a lawyer who works out of a retirement home, and flees wild fires hand-in-hand with the man she believes to be the killer.

Grilled, Chilled and Killed: Big Lake Murder Mystery

Cozy Mystery

2nd in Series

Creekside Publishing (December 31, 2016)

Paperback: 330 pages E-Book 224 pages

ISBN-13: 978-0997234930

E-Book ASIN: B01N9GUUKU

It seems as if Emily is destined to discover dead bodies. This time she finds one of the contestants at the local barbecue cook-off dead and covered in barbecue sauce in a beer cooler. She should be used to stumbling onto corpses by now and the question of who killed the guy should pique her curiosity, but Emily decides to let Detective Lewis handle this one, at least until she figures his theory of who did the deed is wrong, wrong, wrong. Lewis’ denigration of Emily’s speculations is condescending enough to stimulate her dormant snooping skills. As the two of them go on their separate paths to find the killer, Lewis’ old partner, Toby the dirty, tobacco-spitting cop interferes in the investigation leaving Lewis with the wrong man in jail. Killers, bootleggers, barbecue and feral pigs—it’s a lethal game of hide and seek in the Florida swamp.

About The Author

Lesley retired from her life as a professor of psychology and reclaimed her country roots by moving to a small cottage in the Butternut River Valley in Upstate New York. In the winter she migrates to old Florida—cowboys, scrub palmetto and open fields of grazing cattle, a place where spurs still jingle in the post office, and gators make golf a contact sport. Back north, the shy ghost inhabiting the cottage serves as her literary muse. When not writing, she gardens, cooks, frequents yard sales and renovates the 1874 cottage with the help of her husband, two cats and, of course, Fred the ghost, who gives artistic direction to their work. She is the author of a number of mystery series and mysteries as well as short stories. The third book in the Eve Appel murders (from Camel Press) A Sporting Murder was awarded a Readers’ Favorite Five Star Award and her short story Gator Aid a Sleuthfest (2009) short story first place. She has fired the alligator that served as her literary muse when she is in Florida and is interviewing applicants for the position.
