I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on from my mom's Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn't flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, ...more

Wouldn't it be great if all writers could make a living from writing? But alas, that's not always possible. And certainly isn't the case for me. I am lucky enough that my royalties are increasing each month. Who knows? Maybe some day I'll be able to say that it's a living. (less)

[image error]Show, not tell. The advice is the bane of every writer’s existence. Of course, we want to show you our story and not tell it. But how? For me this is especially difficult with dialogue. Dialogue tags are my personal nemesis, and my novels are dialogue-driven. Eek! He said, she said sounds horrible (not to mention boring!) to me. On the other hand, writing ‘he grunted with annoyance...

Finders, Not Keepers by D.E. Haggerty
"This is a cozy mystery at its best. It will make you want to cuddle up for a while and get lost in the story and world D.E. Haggerty has created.

Terri is such a fun main character, I feel like I connected with her right off the bat and that reall..." Read more of this review »
Finders, Not Keepers by D.E. Haggerty

“I stop and look back
All I see is black
I push the dark aside
And there you are
Holding my hand
Catching me when I stumble
Oh how do I get the dark to retreat?
And find my way back to you?
And who I was before”

“The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
Robert Frost

“Revenge, the sweetest morsel to the mouth that ever was cooked in hell.”
Walter Scott, The Heart of Mid-Lothian

“Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss

“There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.”
Ray Bradbury
