From USA Today Bestselling Author, P.D. Workman!
If Reg was going to kill Corvin, she would have done so before now.
As much as she might dislike the warlock who has been a thorn in her side ever since moving to Black Sands, she has never tried to kill him. Well, except maybe that one time. But if she did want Corvin dead, she certainly wouldn’t do it by sneaking into his house at night and attempting to stab him as he slept. Or to try to poison him after that. Why can’t the police accept that and just move on with their investigation?
As the likelihood of arrest and incarceration increases, Reg realizes that she had better identify the actual murderer (or rather, attempted killer) before it is too late.
P.D. Workman’s witchy writing carries you through a world that can make you stop and wander. Could something like this really happen? Could it be possible? You sure wish it could be. Even the smile you have at the end says this might just be the beginning of a magical new life.
This book has all my favourite things: heart, great writing, nearly-flawless editing, something unusual in the air, and a cat.
Like paranormal mysteries? Psychics, witches, fairies, and more! Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author P.D. Workman waves her wand to transport readers to the myth- and magic-filled small town of Black Sands for another paranormal cozy mystery to be solved by Reg Rawlins and her friends.
A self-professed con artist practicing as a contact to the dead, a drop-dead gorgeous warlock, and a psychic cat—what could go wrong?
Fall under Reg’s spell today.
+ Praise for Reg Rawlins Psychic Detective Series
—Another great work of art by Ms. Workman. I am amazed at the diversity of her writing and how much I really enjoy them all. She can write cozy mystery, YA books that should be read by all, medical thrillers, Zach Goldman series and now a paranormal series. I am so glad to have found this author. I am honored that I get to read them early also.
—This book has all my favourite things: heart, great writing, nearly-flawless editing, something unusual in the air, and a cat. I needed a light read, and this fit the bill perfectly. Recommended.
—This book actually surprised me. I knew that a psychic cat would be entertaining. I just didn’t expect it to be this good. You really do get wrapped up in the people and story. It sounds like a fairly gentle story, but there is a lot of suspense involved. Add a bunch of humor to the mix and you are in for a treat. I love the characters. Wish I had some friends like them. And the cat is so very well done. Acts like a typical cat, but a lot smarter than his human. This is a story that you don’t want to put down.
—Extremely well written as are all of P.D. Workman’s books, the characters well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book. I look forward to P.D. Workman’s next book.
—P D Workman has done it again; created a cast of characters and a storyline that are captivating and enthralling. Once I started this cozy I didn’t want to put it down (which can be a bad thing when you have a family to take care of…lol). I can’t wait for the other books in this series. I think Reg is going to turn out to be one of my favorite new characters. Pick up your copy as soon as possible.

Getting chills from The Steel Kiss

In case you missed it, I have just released the next three books in the Parks Pat Mysteries series: Immersed in the View, Skimming over the Lake, and Hazard of the Hills. Check them out and get your copies today! Read my blog post for other new releases while you are at it.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
I am currently reading The Steel Kiss, a Lincoln Rhyme book by Jeffery Deaver. I have read one or two books in this series before, and they are very satisfying police procedural mysteries. I was irritated with Rhyme at one point in this book for failing to see a legal point, but he eventually got there after a number of false turns. He’s supposed to be brilliant, so I expect him to see such issues immediately. For this case, Rhyme has actually retired from the police force, but he ends up helping out his old partner Amelia Sachs anyway, when Rhyme’s civil suit and Sachs’s serial killer turn out to both be part of the same case.
Good, three dimensional characters in a vibrant New York setting. Even though this is book 12 in the series, you do not feel lost, each character and plot point is introduced with enough detail that you have the information you need to enjoy the case as a stand-alone mystery.
She had never seen such a hopeless look in anyone’s eyes.
Jeffrey Deaver, The Steel Kiss

Amelia Sachs is hot on the trail of a killer. She’s chasing him through a department store in Brooklyn when an escalator malfunctions. The stairs give way, with one man horribly mangled by the gears. Sachs is forced to let her quarry escape as she jumps in to try to help save the victim. She and famed forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme soon learn, however, that the incident may not have been an accident at all, but the first in a series of intentional attacks.
They find themselves up against one of their most formidable opponents ever: a brilliant killer who turns common products into murder weapons. As the body count threatens to grow, Sachs and Rhyme must race against the clock to unmask his identity—and discover his mission—before more people die.

Check out April New Releases – Parks Pat and more

I’ve been asked several times when the next books in the Parks Pat Mysteries series were coming out, and that day is today!
I have not just one, but three new stories in this police procedural series.
Rejoin Detective Margie “Parks Pat” Patenaude as she solves homicides in Calgary parks. Beautiful scenery, twisty mysteries, and family values are wrapped up in these quick reads. Each one is a complete mystery, so you can read them as stand alones or work your way through the series from 1-6.
@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-6309a59 .ugb-img{width:640px;height:auto !important}}Immersed in the ViewA Wake Up Call
Detective “Parks” Pat is back. Now an established and accepted member of the homicide squad, she unexpectedly brings a new case to the table when she stumbles across a body as Canada Day dawns. While it was initially assumed to be an accidental drowning, the autopsy results say otherwise.
Margie is soon off and running, but the lack of witnesses has her going in circles. Meanwhile, the brass wants the investigation put to bed before the city is flooded with Calgary Stampede tourists and dignitaries. Ms. Workman never disappoints! Well developed characters, a tight plot and expert craftsmanship make this one a fast read.
Looking for a police procedural set in picturesque Canada? Let Award-winning and Bestselling Author P.D. Workman take you to her favourite Calgary parks, as Métis detective Margie Patenaude investigates a murder in this fast-paced new series.
These short mysteries are just right for those days when you could use a break from your busy life. Take a walk in a Calgary park with Parks Pat.
Wade into this new mystery today!

I also appreciate the imagery of these books – they afford a wonderful armchair travel experience. I understand the author draws on personal encounters when choosing the parks featured in this series so I suppose that is why the descriptions are so vivid and detailed. I find I can easily visualize the scenery, I can almost feel the sun and smell the breeze.

It’s Parade Day, and Margie would have thought that any trouble would have centered around drinking and motor vehicles. Or being trampled by horses. Or clowns. But the latest homicide investigation is nowhere near the parade route, but on the outskirts of town. And the culprit appears to be a tiny boat.
Why do so many deaths in parks have to be by drowning?
Margie Patenaude is once again looking at death in the water. The boats may be small, but the suspect list is growing. Another brilliant standalone story in an excellent series from a master storyteller

This case might just leave Margie feeling nostalgic about the water deaths she has been investigating lately.
A woman is found at the bottom of a 70-meter drop. It is pretty clear from the beginning that she was killed in the fall.
But you can never be sure until the medical examiner’s report comes back. It would appear that there is a lot more to be investigated after all.
Maybe this close-knit community wasn’t quite all it appeared to be. This is another well-written, briskly-paced mystery featuring great characters, lots of interesting glimpses into Canada’s Indigenous culture, and a satisfying resolution all wrapped up in delightful quick-read police procedural by an author who could make a description of drying paint sound fascinating.

Rushing to the impressive family home, Detective Megan Carpenter finds the halls adorned with pictures of the beautiful, stay-at-home mom and their bright-eyed son. But that’s not all she finds…
A bottle of prenatal vitamins in the bathroom cabinet reveal that Marlena is pregnant. Why didn’t Ben mention this in his panicked call to the police?
Digging deeper into their seemingly perfect marriage, Megan’s fear begins to grow. The couple are separated, there’s talk of an affair, and the neighbors report loud fights. And then, Megan tracks a young woman believed to be Ben’s secret girlfriend, only to find her lifeless body in a secluded wood.

When the battered body of a female jogger is found beneath the cliffs of an idyllic coastal community, these perfect neighbors suddenly don’t seem so perfect…
Lily Bradley is a respected psychotherapist married to a distinguished professor. They live in a dream house with their two children in close-knit Story Cove. Lily lives a well-ordered life. Or so it seems. As a therapist, she knows everyone keeps things hidden. Even her.
Then sensual and free-spirited Arwen Harper rolls into town in her hand-painted VW van, her sixteen-year-old son riding shotgun. Overnight, Story Cove’s secrets are no longer safe. Because Arwen might know her new neighbors better than they know themselves.
Now someone is dead, and it looks like murder. Brutal and personal. The death invites the shrewd eye of Detective Rue Duval. Rue’s job is to expose secrets. But she’s also an expert at keeping them.
As the lives of three women become inexorably entwined, one thing is clear: when it comes to survival, ordinary people can do the most terrible things.

The past becomes quickly bitter after the sweet dreams of the future die …
Charles Piper has been a respected judge in the small town of Fairmont, but there is little he can do to sway the courts of public opinion. When Martha Davidson’s marriage fell apart, he was quick to offer her his help, and she was quick to return his kindness with his favorite chocolate pie — and that’s when the town’s whispers began to swirl …
But when Martha dies, Charles is inconsolable, and there’s only one thing he can do.
Find her true killer — assuming her son Matthias will let him.

A distress call draws rescuers Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit to a cruise ship off the coast of Fort Lauderdale that’s sinking from a mysterious explosion. When it appears to be the work of an ecoterrorist and other ships are threatened, it becomes a race against time. More clues are discovered, and evidence is in danger of being washed away by a coming tropical storm. Sloan grows concerned that key details are being ignored, and a strange lack of urgency by authorities sets off alarms.
As the troubling questions compound, Sloan is determined to chase down every lead she has. Her persistence is getting her closer to the truth: that there’s something far more troubling at play than the official explanation. It’s also putting Sloan on a collision course with an enemy more powerful than she realizes, in a case so complex and deadly it may be impossible to prove. Now cracking the case is a matter of staying one step ahead of someone with every resource imaginable to bury Sloan and everything she knows.

Detective Luca knows the killer posed the victims for a reason. Each body, numbered and staged in a way that makes it evident a madman longs to show up the police. This sick lunatic wants to torment Luca as much as the people he kills.
A single piece of forensic evidence changes everything.
The killer might be a woman.
Or could it be more than one killer?
As Luca builds his case, every piece to the puzzle creates more questions than answers. When an interview with a suspect reveals a unique medical procedure from her past, it opens a world of possibilities.
Is she lying?
Is the killer someone who’s DNA can’t be trusted?
You’ll love this latest installment in the Detective Luca series, because to unravel this serial killer’s plans, it will take thinking outside the box.

When a call comes in about a young girl found dead at a high school prom—her life drained away from a fatal stab wound—Detective Josie Quinn drops everything to attend the scene. Taking in the girl’s neatly braided hair, Josie feels a flicker of recognition. But no one comes forward to identify this innocent child, murdered on what should have been the happiest night of her life.
Trawling missing persons files, Josie realizes where she has seen the girl before. Gemma Farmer disappeared a few months ago, shattering her family. But why would her body appear now, on her sixteenth birthday? Josie’s only clue is the five neat little cuts on Gemma’s pale arm. Days later, another missing girl shows up, tucked neatly into her bed on the morning of her birthday, her favourite teddy beside her, her skin as cold as ice—and the autopsy reveals scars on her arm matching Gemma’s.
Her head spinning, Josie fears the marks are a serial killer’s twisted way of counting his victims. But where are the other girls he’s killed, and how many more could follow? The case takes a terrifying turn when a local teen goes missing just days before she turns sixteen.
Clock ticking, Josie turns the town upside down in search of answers. But when her own chief comes forward with a missing piece in this devastating puzzle spanning decades, will it be enough to get inside the mind of the most unexpected and elusive killer she has ever encountered, or will another precious life be taken?

A skeptical Nora Kelly, to her great annoyance, is tasked with the job.
Nora’s excavation immediately uncovers two murder victims buried at the site, faces and hands obliterated with acid to erase their identities. Special Agent Corrie Swanson is assigned to the case. As Nora’s excavation proceeds, uncovering things both bizarre and seemingly inexplicable, Corrie’s homicide investigation throws open a Pandora’s box of espionage and violence, uncovering bloody traces of a powerful force that will stop at nothing to protect its secrets—and that threatens to engulf them all in an unimaginable fate.

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life when her kidnapped daughter returned, but it wasn’t.

Because Clarissa doesn’t want to know about her mother, she refuses to talk to anyone and won’t tell the police what happened to her.

Indigenous Peoples in and Around Calgary
Calgary is built on Treaty 7 land. Treaty 7 was signed in September 1877 between the Canadian government and five First Nations: the Siksiká, Kainai, Piikani, Stoney-Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina. This Treaty granted the Government of Canada a 130,000 km2 tract of land and did not allow them to continue their traditional lifestyles. The Treaty resulted in significant hardships and suffering for those Nations, although they continue to show their strength and resilience today.
Three First Nations (Siksiká, Stoney Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina) have their territory just outside of Calgary city limits. In addition, many Indigenous people live within Calgary, representing a multitude of Nations from this continent.
Some of the Indigenous Nations mentioned in this series include:
Métis – The Métis are a constitutionally recognized Indigenous Peoples (Métis Nation) in Canada. Their culture emerged from the association of European explorers and traders with the nations already living in what would come to be called Canada. The only remaining Métis self-governing land base in Canada is located in northern Alberta, with communities known as the Métis Settlements. For some Métis, their language is a mixed language of Cree and French, called Michif. There are several variations of Michif, and it is currently spoken by fewer than 1000 people.
Siksiká Nation or Niitsitapiiks – part of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Their community lies to the east of Calgary. They speak Siksiká, an Algonquian language.
Stoney Nakoda – historically referred to as Rocky Mountain Sioux or Plains Assiniboine. Their communities lie to the west of Calgary. Composed of three Nations: The Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation, and Wesley First Nation. The Stoney language is a variety of Dakota Siouan and is closely related to Assiniboine.
Tsuut’ina – historically referred to as Sarcee, which is considered offensive. Their community lies between and slightly to the south of the Stoney Nakoda and Calgary. Calgary is currently building a ring road through what was, until recently, Tsuut’ina land. This project has displaced a number of Tsuut’ina families.

Have you heard of Anteater of Death?
The Easter season is upon us, and if you are looking for some good books to read for Easter, head on over to last week’s blog to grab a copy of a few of these Easter treats. If you are preparing for Pesach, you probably don’t have time this week, but they’ll still be here when you’re back!
How about putting these Easter treats in your basket?
Be sure to come back this weekend for not one but three new releases in the Parks Pat Mysteries series!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
This week’s teaser comes from The Anteater of Death by Betty Webb. A very nicely-done cozy. I would definitely read more in the series. A cozy mystery with a zoo full of animals behaving like animals and humans behaving like savages. Plenty of suspects, lots of twists and turns, and pleasant diversions into zoo life, boats, and the protagonist’s relationships with her family, coworkers, friends, and new love interest. The main character was more three-dimensional than the protagonists in a lot of other cozy mysteries. As an animal lover, I enjoyed reading about the social behaviors of the animals and how the keepers loved and cared for them.
Minor spoiler — the anteater is not guilty.
In zoo parlance, that means if one gets loose, run for your life.
Betty Webb, The Anteater of Death

If Lucy, the pregnant Giant Anteater from Belize, didn’t kill the man found dead in her enclosure at California’s Gunn Zoo, who did? Zookeeper Teddy Bentley must find the real murderer before her furry friend is shipped off to another zoo in disgrace.
Then another human bites the dust, the monkeys riot, and the wolves go nuts. Things get worse when the snooty folks at Gunn Landing Harbor attempt to evict Teddy from the Merilee, her beloved houseboat.
That’s just the beginning. Her father, on the lam from the Feds for embezzling millions, gets targeted by a local gangster; and Caro, Teddy’s socialite and former beauty queen mother, who loathes Teddy’s dangerous job, starts introducing her to eligible bachelors. Then Teddy herself becomes a target for murder.

How about putting these Easter treats in your basket?

Easter is just around the corner! The weather has been warming up here, and the sun rising earlier. I thought I would pull together a bunch of Easter/spring/equinox themed books for you this week.
I’ll start at the top with Magic Ain’t a Game, my Reg Rawlins book that is set around Easter and spring equinox:
@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-b0a4479 .ugb-img{width:640px;height:auto !important}}Magic Ain’t a GameSpring equinox was supposed to be a fun time in Black Sands.
The magical Spring Games are being held in town, with all kinds of new talent and tourists pouring money into the economy. Of course, Reg wasn’t invited to participate, but she figured she’d have a good time watching the entertainment, learning more about how magic works outside of fairy tales, and maybe making some coin with psychic predictions for the tourists.
But instead of the promised state of balance the equinox was supposed to bring, a power shift within the community has disrupted everything, Reg is under investigation for magical crimes, and her footing in Black Sands is more precarious than ever.
“Tell me again how this was all supposed to be fun?”

Make it a bundle:
BOOKS 10-12 BOOKS 1-12
This one has appeared on my blog several times.
It’s springtime in Spicetown and Mayor Cora Mae Bingham discovers there may be trouble blooming along with the rhododendrons!
With construction in full throttle in the new subdivisions and the income tax filing deadline looming over her head, Mayor Cora Mae Bingham is revamping the Annual Easter Eggs-Travaganza and trying to figure out who is in the Easter bunny suit this year, when a dead body has to be added to her To-Do list.

Can you figure out who the killer is before the guilty culprit is revealed?
During an Easter egg hunt, Roland “Beanie” Bean and his two-year-old son Evan are searching for eggs when they find a woman sprawled in the dirt beneath a hibiscus bush.
Little Evan thinks the lady is just sleeping, but Beanie knows better. The woman is dead.
As an investigative reporter at the Palmchat Gazette, Beanie is the perfect person to cover the story, considering that he found the victim.
Narrowing down the field of suspects, Beanie finds out the victim had plenty of enemies. Not only was she unfaithful to her husband, but she was blackmailing her lover and cheating her business partner and may have been involved in a scam with a vicious island cartel.
As Beanie continues to investigate, he uncovers sinister secrets and devious motives among those who were closest to the victim. Racing to discover the killer, he ends up the target of a diabolical murderer who won’t hesitate to kill again.

When Delaney Fox made up her mind to attend a session at The Tilted Plume Writers’ Retreat in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, she had no idea how winding and treacherous the road was going to be. Eerily, none of the other students showed up. And perhaps Delaney should have stayed home, too. After all, she was five months pregnant.
Mavis Beasom, a renowned romance writer, enjoyed the life of a hermit at her glorious but isolated retreat. She was a towering and formidable woman nearing sixty, and she was certainly not one to mince words. She made no attempt to hide her black cape with the pointed hood.
Mavis soon made it clear that she was not interested in teaching her student to write. She had lured Delaney to The Tilted Plume to be the thirteenth member of her own coven for an imminent celebration of the spring equinox.

Amateur sleuth (and ace baker) Claire Andersen is back! Winter melts to spring in scenic Galway, Maryland, uncovering blooming friendships new and old, a shyly budding romance, the rotten stench of organized crime, and family drama more garish than Claire’s emerging blood lilies.
Settling in just fine to her new Appalachian digs (and getting the hang of this whole proprietress of a B&B thing, too!), NYC native Claire Andersen is living a cozy small town fairy tale. There are quirky local characters and adorable little shops, not to mention a kitchen full of mouth-watering baked goodies. She’s a veritable June Cleaver—if Leave It to Beaver were nestled in the mountains and June were a recently retired empty nester, that is.
There’s just one problem. Claire can hardly say “Gee, golly” before her newly-acquainted and much-beloved neighbor winds up murdered in cold blood, right before Galway’s annual Easter parade. Hot off the heels of her last murder, Claire can’t help but get involved (much to the chagrin of the well-meaning albeit bumbling town sheriff). She can hardly help herself, after all. The murder did take place right next door … and the victim’s family is staying in her B&B… Ever the hostess, poking around is the least she could do.
Little does Claire know the victim’s family is just the tip of the iceberg. The rest of the iceberg consists of age-old secrets so duplicitous, they’d make Eddie Haskell run for the hills.

Tour guide Lana Hansen is finally leading a trip to Spain—and during Easter week, no less! To top it off, she is a speaker at a prestigious travel and tourism expo taking place in Seville during the tour. Luckily, her clients—all influential travel bloggers and writers—are also attending the trade show.
Lana is excited to speak at the conference … that is, until Chet Rogers—an eminent travel writer being honored at the expo—publicly humiliates her and several of her guests.
When Chet is killed during a workshop soon after, Lana is one of the Spanish police’s prime suspects. But she is not the only one in her group who would rather see Chet out of the picture—permanently.
Can Lana sleuth out the killer’s true identity and dance her way out of a jail sentence before her group’s tour to Seville is over?

Welcome to Three Pines, where the cruelest month is about to deliver on its threat.
It’s spring in the tiny, forgotten village; buds are on the trees and the first flowers are struggling through the newly thawed earth. But not everything is meant to return to life. . .
When some villagers decide to celebrate Easter with a séance at the Old Hadley House, they are hoping to rid the town of its evil—until one of their party dies of fright. Was this a natural death, or was the victim somehow helped along?
Brilliant, compassionate Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec is called to investigate, in a case that will force him to face his own ghosts as well as those of a seemingly idyllic town where relationships are far more dangerous than they seem.

The smell of burnt cake is not a good omen for Annie when she arrives at the Black Cat Cafe. But little does she know that her Aunt Leona’s cooking disaster is only the first of many problems she’ll be served in a big basket of cracked Easter eggs. Annie quickly learns that being in charge at the Black Cat Café isn’t all chocolate-covered strawberries and carrot cakes.
In addition to the variety of tasty pastries she needs to make for Easter, she stumbles on a body and what appears to be a robbery. With money disappearing from bank accounts, snooping seniors appearing out of the blue, and clues turning up in the most unlikely places, Annie’s problems sizzle more than Leona’s hot cross buns. Determined to help her new friends, Annie and her therapy dog land in the middle of a murder investigation.
Clues pile higher than a basket of Easter eggs, all pointing to one of the seniors. Annie searches for something to keep her friend from landing in a jail cell but instead, Annie ends up right in the killer’s crosshairs.

Zoe Donovan is a cozy mystery series with enduring friendships, memorable characters, an enchanting setting, and a generous dollop of romance.
Spring is in the air and with the warm weather comes an abundance of babies; human and otherwise. Things seem to be right on course until Jack Frost comes to town throwing the entire town of Ashton Falls into chaos. When Zoe sees the Easter Bunny running from a murder scene during a freak snowstorm she must track down the ‘Cartoon Bandits’ in order to catch a killer.

The eggs aren’t the only things dyeing in Buttercup…
It’s springtime on Dewberry Farm, and homesteader Lucy Resnick is busy putting together her wares for the Easter Market. She’s just finished potting the last of her herb starts when a tornado rips through her farm, destroying her crops, scattering her livestock and tearing up the barn. As Lucy searches for two kids lost in the storm, she makes a grisly discovery: her neighbor’s home health aide, Eva, strangled with a hand-knitted scarf.
While investigating the young woman’s death, Lucy discovers that blood isn’t always thicker than water… and that somebody may be taking advantage of the town’s more vulnerable citizens. When a second body turns up, drowned in a vat of dye, the whole town is walking on eggshells. Will Lucy find the killer in time?
Or has dyeing season just begun?

Known for its cheerful staff and elaborate annual Easter Bonnet Contest, the Heritage House senior center regularly attracts new residents and positive press. But once the town’s retired librarian, Miss Julia Tilley, checks in to recover from an illness, Lucy sees a side of the facility that isn’t quite so perfect and pristine. And the place may soon be making headlines for different reasons following an unexplained disappearance…
Lucy can’t fathom how Agnes Neal could go missing from assisted living over a silly Easter bonnet contest, or why few seem concerned as signs point to foul play. A retired journalist with an independent mind, Agnes had an eye for details and little interest in conforming to catty cliques or rules set by her caretakers—traits that threatened some and angered others . . .
While police stall the investigation without answers, Lucy realizes backstabbing has no age limit when alarming parallels bloom between her daughter’s college frenemies and social circles at Heritage House. Gathering clues as flimsy as a half-eaten milk chocolate bunny, Lucy must discover what happened to Agnes—before her own story becomes another springtime tragedy left unsolved.

In the first ever crossover episode, Zak and Zoe join forces with Hawaiian visitors Luke and Lani, to find out who killed a historian visiting Ashton Falls in order to find a treasure map left by his grandfather a hundred years earlier.
Meanwhile, Ellie and Levi move in with Zak and Zoe while the boathouse is being renovated and Alex helps Ellie prepare the nursery for baby Eli who is due to be born any day. Throw in some humor and Easter fun and you have a Zak and Zoe crossover mystery.

When a scissors-wielding Easter bunny kills one of Judith McGonigle’s neighbors during the annual Easter egg hunt that she is catering, Judith teams up with her former beau, police lieutenant Joe Flynn, and her cousin Renie to investigate the crime. Reissue.

It’s a big boost for the Kebab Kitchen, as well as for local businesses like Melanie Haven’s candy shop. But Melanie is about to find herself in a sticky situation.
When Melanie and Lucy attend a beach bonfire, a local landlord is found dead after apparently choking on a piece of salt water taffy. Melanie, who was known to have a contentious relationship with the victim, is quickly skewered as the prime suspect. But Lucy is determined to prove her friend’s innocence before the real killer coasts free…

The approach of Easter means a rush of business at TenHuis Chocolade, and Lee and her Aunt Nettie need all the help they can get to make their famous chocolate bunnies. Unfortunately, new hire Bunny Birdsong is a clutzy basketcase dropping everything she picks up. But to Lee’s surprise, she’s a whiz with computers and fixing the store’s website so they decide to keep her.
However, Bunny receives a few visitors they could do without: her soon to be ex-husband Beau, his wealthy aunt Abigail, and his new girlfriend and her brother all descend on the shop one day and have a bitter argument. Lee hopes they can find a peaceful way to settle their dispute and not bring any more trouble to TenHuis. But when Abigail’s body is discovered in the vacant store next door, it’s clear to Lee there’s a bad egg in her midst. Now she’s on the hunt to find out who it is…

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead

Undiscovered Tomb was on sale over the weekend. The price has gone up now, but you can still buy it, and check out a bunch of other Egypt-related mysteries.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
Well, this one had an intriguing title, as you can tell. If you are interested in where the name comes from, it is from a poem by William Blake (author of The Tyger). A number of passages are quoted in the book.
In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.
William Blake, Proverbs of Hell
Drive your cart and your plow over the bones of the dead.
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk was on the “mystery” shelf, but I am not sure I would classify it as such. It does involve a murder (in fact, a string of murders) which are solved at the end of the book, but it is very literary and does not at all follow the plot of a sleuth trying to solve the murders. Rather, it is an atmospheric book where it is very easy to get lost in the details of the descriptions of the land and culture the characters live in (Poland).
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead was originally written in Polish in 2009 and published in English in 2019. The book was shortlisted for a number of prizes, and won the Nobel Prize for Literature shortly after it was published in English.
I knew very early on in the story who the killer was, so I was not surprised by the ending.
The title of this book is longer than the teaser itself:
“Please get dressed. Big Foot is dead.”
Olga Tokarczuk, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead

In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a crank and a recluse is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon other bodies are discovered, in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. If only anyone would pay her mind . . .
A deeply satisfying thriller cum fairy tale, Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead is a provocative exploration of the murky borderland between sanity and madness, justice and tradition, autonomy and fate. Whom do we deem sane? it asks. Who is worthy of a voice?

Her new paranormal…
Powerful rings, a couple of cuddly kitties, and never-ending ice cream in the freezer; Reg would have thought that she would be happy with her new normal. Or paranormal. But it isn’t quite as much fun as it sounds like.
With at least one of the cats determined to shred her domestic bliss and the relentless restlessness of the rings, Reg tries to move things in the right direction.
But Egypt isn’t all lollypops and rainbows either. It’s hot. It’s dusty. And Reg had hoped to have put her mummy issues behind her.

I love this series with its quirky, lovable characters, its engaging story lines and the imaginative, original world-building that keeps me coming back for one book after another. I have yet to read anything by this author that wasn’t well worth every second of the time I spent with each book.
P.D. Workman’s witchy writing carries you through a world that can make you stop and wonder. Could something like this really happen? Could it be possible? You sure wish it could be. Even the smile you have at the end says this might just be the beginning of a magical new life.

The tranquility of a luxury cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish, and beautiful. A girl who had everything … until she lost her life.
Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: “I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.” Yet under the searing heat of the Egyptian sun, nothing is ever quite what it seems.
A sweeping mystery of love, jealousy, and betrayal, Death on the Nile is one of Christie’s most legendary and timeless works.
Amelia Peabody, that indomitable product of the Victorian age, embarks on her debut Egyptian adventure armed with unshakable self-confidence, a journal to record her thoughts, and, of course, a sturdy umbrella. On her way to Cairo, Amelia rescues young Evelyn Barton-Forbes, who has been abandoned by her scoundrel lover.
Together the two women sail up the Nile to an archeological site run by the Emerson brothers-the irascible but dashing Radcliffe and the amiable Walter. Soon their little party is increased by one-one mummy that is, and a singularly lively example of the species.
Strange visitations, suspicious accidents, and a botched kidnapping convince Amelia that there is a plot afoot to harm Evelyn. Now Amelia finds herself up against an unknown enemy-and perilous forces that threaten to make her first Egyptian trip also her last…

Who has dared to desecrate the sacred place of embalming with a murdered corpse? Pharaoh Tutankhamun orders Lord Meren, his chief investigator, to find out quickly, before power-mad priests use the incident to undermine his royal authority.
Everyone is a suspect, for the body belongs to the notorious scribe Hormin, hated by all who knew him. However, Lord Meren is no mere courtier but the Eyes and Ears of the living god. In the terrifying Place of Anubis, where unquiet spirits dwell, in the sunstruck city of Thebes, where Hormin’s sons and his beautiful concubine plot, and in the royal court, where intrigues abound, Lord Meren hunts his quarry, peeling back the secrets of nobles and slaves in his quest for the truth. But more important by far is Meren’s responsibility to protect the young Pharaoh from his enemies — who are no farther away than the length of a dagger…

Maree Lilley’s pleasant new life in Chowan Cove had already seen her promoted to Managing Director of the small town’s quaint little museum. She was looking forward to hosting her first exhibition with precious artifacts from the cradle of civilization, mysterious and beautiful Egypt and even a sudden snowstorm couldn’t dampen the excitement of the upcoming show.
However, the weather quickly becomes the least of their worries when an uninvited guest turns up dead. This is no ancient Pharaoh’s curse: this is murder.
Motives pile up as the snowstorm continues to cut everyone off from the outside world, and the loss of power and communications continue to raise suspicions on the inside.
It’s up to Maree to sift through what few clues there are to piece together what had happened and reveal the culprit.
The killer, however, isn’t just sitting around, waiting to be caught. Will Maree win this battle of wits in a deadly race against time?

Maree Lilley’s pleasant new life in Chowan Cove hHis great battles against the sea raiders in the Nile Delta have left Pharaoh Tuthmosis II frail, but he finds solace in victory and in the welcome he is sure to receive on his return to Thebes. Across the river from Thebes, however, there are those who do not relish his homecoming, and a group of assassins has taken a witch to pollute the Pharaoh’s unfinished tomb.
Reunited with his wife, Hatusu, and his people, Tuthmosis stands before the statue of Amun-Ra with the roar of the crowd and the fanfare of trumpets ringing in his ears. But within an hour he is dead and the people of Thebes cannot forget the omen of wounded doves flying overhead. Rumours run rife, speculation sweeps the royal city and Hatusu vows to uncover the truth. With the aid of Amerotke, a respected judge of Thebes, she embarks on a path destined to reveal the great secrets of Egypt.

From the oldest known court transcripts in history, Egyptologists have long known about the mysterious death of Ramses III, involving intrigue, ambition, greed, and crimes of passion on a huge, though hidden, scale. In Year of the Hyenas, Brad Geagley takes this event — a struggle that nearly brought ancient Egypt to its knees — as the backdrop for a story that is every bit as captivating as the distant civilization it resurrects.
At the heart of the novel is Semerket, the so-called Clerk of Investigations and Secrets, a detective half-paralyzed by problems of his own, with a reputation for heavy drinking and tactless behavior toward the great, the powerful, and the holy, a kind of Sam Spade of the ancient world, deeply (and dangerously) addicted to the truth. Hard-bitten, deeply flawed, he is retained by the authorities to investigate what is considered an insignificant murder of an elderly, insignificant Theban priestess. They fail to inform him, however, that they don’t expect him to solve the case. In fact, they don’t want him to.
But Semerket is not so easily fooled, and this is hardly an “insignificant” murder. As he delves deeper for the elusive truth, he uncovers a web of corruption so vast that it threatens the life of the last great Pharaoh, Ramses III, and the stability of the kingdom. Even worse, uncovering the conspiracy means more than just putting his own life on the line — for, unbeknownst to Semerket, his adored ex-wife Naia has fallen afoul of those who would bring down the reign of Ramses, and he soon finds himself having to choose between saving her and saving Egypt…

The Mamur Zapt, head of Cairo’s CID in the heyday of (the indirect) British rule, focused on political, not police, matters. With the bustling new century, the loosening of imperial ties, and the rise of nationalism, his was a busy office. The attempted assassination of a veteran politician raises the spectre of a major terrorist statement at the capital’s principal religious festival where the faithful celebrate the Return of the Holy Carpet from Mecca.
Easily navigating multiple nationalities, three principal languages, and four competing legal systems, not to mention the intricacies of shadow and actual governments, Captain Owen, the Welsh incumbent, bolsters the Mamur Zapt’s office with the aid of a host of memorable characters.

Egypt, 1926.Fiercely independent American Jane Wunderly has made up her mind: she won’t be swept off her feet on a trip abroad. Despite her Aunt Millie’s best efforts, the young widow would rather gaze at the Great Pyramids of Giza than into the eyes of a dashing stranger. Yet Jane’s plans to remain cool and indifferent become ancient history in the company of Mr. Redvers, a roguish banker she can’t quite figure out…
While the Mena House has its share of charming guests, Anna Stainton isn’t one of them. The beautiful socialite makes it clear that she won’t share the spotlight with anyone—especially Jane. But Jane soon becomes the center of attention when she’s the one standing over her unintentional rival’s dead body. Now, with her innocence at stake in a foreign country, Jane must excavate an elusive killer before her future falls to ruin in Cairo, and the body count rises like the desert heat…

Poppy Fields, Hollywood IT girl and super-secret spy, travels to Egypt looking for answers.
But amidst assassination attempts, money launderers, and missing treasure, answers are hard to come by.
Poppy must trust new allies, forgive old wrongs, and find a forgotten pharaoh or the next tomb she enters may be her own.

An unexpected package with a mysterious note and an ancient artifact catapults Maggie Edwards into an unbelievable adventure.
When her archeologist uncle sends her a strange item, Maggie is unknowingly plunged into a world of danger. A terrifying phone call alerts her to the danger both she and her uncle face.
After a break-in at her apartment, Maggie has nowhere to turn. She is forced to trust her uncle’s self-proclaimed associate. Is he leading her one step closer to finding Ollie alive or deeper into the dangerous web of the tomb raiders?
The tiny scarab could lead Maggie to the biggest archeological discovery of the modern world… if she lives long enough to find it.

Read this yarn – Dead Men Don’t Crochet

I hope you had a chance to take advantage of my Flash Sale on Henry, Breaking the Pattern last weekend. I had a good number of downloads; hopefully you were one of them!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
I am currently reading Betty Hechtman’s Dead Men Don’t Crochet, a well-woven cozy mystery with some unexpected twists and tangles… okay, I’ll lay off the puns now! Dead Men Don’t Crochet has all of the expected tropes — a protagonist who works at the library and takes part in a crocheting club, solving murders on the side. Her boyfriend is a cop, of course, and while he keeps telling her not to interfere with the investigation, I assume he will give her a hand the moment she is in trouble. Good characters and a nice tone so far. Curl up by the fire for this cozy read.
“If he thinks he can just avoid dealing with me, he has another thought coming,” Sheila said and banged on the table for emphasis. We all jumped.
Betty Hechtman, Dead Men Don’t Crochet

The Tarzana Hookers are a motley crew of women, all of whom are not afraid to speak their minds. Except Sheila, a timid, anxiety-ridden crocheter in desperate need of money, who sells her beautiful scarves at a local consignment store. When the owner stiffs Sheila, the boisterous ladies rally to her support. Then the shop owner is found dead. Molly Pink ignores the warnings from her homicide-detective boyfriend and sets out with her stitchmates to clear Sheila’s name.
