Looking for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder?

I’m not sure of the title of this book, since it really doesn’t describe what the book is about or the tone of the piece. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson features a young woman investigating the murder of another girl in her town five years earlier, becoming friends with the brother of the boy accused of murdering her and digging down deep to find the truth behind what really happened to Andie Bell.
It is billed as a YA Thriller and is apparently big on TikTok and Netflix and has won several children’s fiction awards. So far I am enjoying the gradual unravelling of what Andie Bell was really like and who may have had a motive to murder her. If she was murdered. Though she has been legally declared dead, no body has ever been found.
I don’t know for sure what the correct police procedure would have been but I’m guessing that at that point, Sal became the number-one suspect.

I am currently reading You Will Remember Me by Hannah Mary McKinnon. Who doesn’t love an amnesia thriller and the thrill of unwrapping one layer after another of the patient’s story to find out who they really are and how they came to be there. It goes without saying that there will be secrets, things that maybe even the sufferer does not want to remember. McKinnon does a masterful job of setting things up from the moment “Brad” wakes up on the beach with no memory of how he got there—or who he is. I am looking forward to finding out just what happened to bring him to that point.

—This book actually surprised me. I knew that a psychic cat would be entertaining. I just didn’t expect it to be this good. You really do get wrapped up in the people and story. It sounds like a fairly gentle story, but there is a lot of suspense involved. Add a bunch of humor to the mix and you are in for a treat. I love the characters. Wish I had some friends like them. And the cat is so very well done. Acts like a typical cat, but a lot smarter than his human. This is a story that you don’t want to put down.

The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book. I look forward to P.D. Workman’s next book.
—P D Workman has done it again; created a cast of characters and a storyline that are captivating and enthralling. Once I started this cozy I didn’t want to put it down (which can be a bad thing when you have a family to take care of…lol). I can’t wait for the other books in this series. I think Reg is going to turn out to be one of my favorite new characters. Pick up your copy as soon as possible.

This week I am reading Hostage, a novel by Clare Mackintosh. Lots of interesting characters with different backgrounds and secrets, a young daughter on the ground in peril and hundreds of people up in the sky at the mercy of a hostage taker. The tension is building… it will be interesting to see how the main character, a flight attendant, manages to take control of the situation and—presumably—land the airplane!

However, their expectations are quickly subverted when Zeus asks Kallie for a favor, and AB finds out there are still more radioactive doughnuts out in the city — and one’s been eaten by none other than Officer Max Powers, the same man who’d helped Kallie the night of her Model Middle America audition.
And when Officer Powers becomes his greatest fear — a man with nothing left to lose, wildly desperate to enact vengeance against his brother’s killer — Kallie and AB have new, unpleasant questions to answer: Why was he targeted? I have just recently begun Friends Like These by Kimberly McCreight. You’ve heard this story before… friends who share a horrible secret gather for a weekend reunion. Trapped by a storm, something happens, and one of them is dead. It is up to the police/detective to sort out all of the misleading clues and lies, probe and tease out the mass of secrets covering secrets to get to the heart of the matter.
So far, a good read. I know the basics of their secret, but not all of the details, and so far have no idea how the get-together ended up with one of them dead and at least one more missing. Which one was killed? (The facial damage means that the victim is not recognizable) Which is on the run, lost in the wilderness, or hiding in the shadows? A classic storyline that, so far, is well done.
