I can’t let go of this. This whole thing that wehave carefully created, and then shortly...

I can’t let go of this.
This whole thing that we
have carefully created,
and then shortly
destroyed afterwards.
We should have known
a lot of things, but what we
should have been
professionals on, was the fact
that just because
you love someone
doesn’t always mean
that you are going to
end being happy,
or being together.
We should have been
counting down the days
to when we would finally part.
Because now I am here,
wondering where
it all went wrong,
and what it was that I
could have done
to prevent it all
from happening.

Could you be any more fantastic? I'm skeptical.

You are skeptical for the wrong reasons, my darling. I am not fantastic. No. Not even close. But the love that you are making me feel, the warmth that is inside of my body from the way you appreciate me, now that is something that is fantastic. That is something to be skeptical about.

In this scenario, I am the other woman.
Undeveloped breasts that men can’t help
but to gasp in awe over. He came up to me
today, his hands clasped together,
almost like he was in the middle of a prayer;
begging God to allow me to surrender
to his ultimate sophistication. I laughed
loud enough for everyone around us to hear.
I tell him that my body is not a convenient store.
That I am not here for his pleasure; I am not
here for him to betray the love of someone
who has appreciated him for years. But he
doesn’t care, and to tell you the truth,
neither do I.

What books would you recommend to someone who wants to get into poetry?

I’m a walking cliché, but Pablo Neruda really helped me along the path to finding what home that was built out of poetry to live in. I recently just started getting into Charles Bukowski. A lot of people don’t enjoy his work, but I love the rawness behind his meaning. Sylvia Plath’s poetry is breathtaking, as always. Carl Sandburg is also very good. Warsan Shire is one of my all-time, young poets. The way she uses her words and provokes thoughts is just amazing. She will never leave you unsatisfied or guessing, or empty. She hits you right in the feelings bone. I just recently read Richard Siken’s book, Crush, and that was an interesting read. I also recommend him. He touches on different subjects that not a lot of other poets touch base on, so that was attention grabbing. Anne Sexton to me is a classic, so I recommend her as well. And of course there are a bunch of other amazing poets that I could, and should mention, but I am about to start my shift at the bakery, so I am going to have to leave you with this list of amazing people. I hope it helps you find your piece poetic justice!

Do you know any ways to get over writers block?

For me, I have a few different strategies. Here are a few for you, love.

Read. Read as much as you can. Read novels. Read poetry. Read magazines. Read the back of a cereal box even! Just read. For me, when I read the work of others, it helps me locate where my voice has gone to. It makes me understand that there is an endless amount of words that you are able to string together. There is a difference between imitation and inspiration. Someone can inspire you to write, but that shouldn’t mean by filling your mouth with their words. Take others words and thoughts into perspective. It will help you sort of your own.
Write. Write as much as you can. But just because you are writing, doesn’t mean you have to show anyone. By writing, it just gets you back into the groove of being able to put all of your thoughts down. Just because you’re writing something doesn’t mean that it has to be something worth showing others. Write about what’s on your mind. Write about what you did throughout the day. You can even write about what you want to happen within the future. If you write, just about anything, things may suddenly start to come back for you.
The opposite of writing; don’t write at all. Just wait until the words come to you. Go without writing for an entire day, and by the end of it, you will have a meaning pouring out from your fingertips. It all depends on how much you have to say. And what has happened throughout your day, and if anything has made you feel differently. Just try your hardest not to create words. Let your meaning rest for a little bit.
Get off the computer. Turn off your phone. Unplug your television set. Close those books. Get away from anything and everything that allows your mind to be active. If you can, go outside and look at the sky, or in the distance. Even being able to reflect on nature, even for a moment, can help you come back to yourself. It may even help you make sense of a lot of things. Don’t think, be. Just remain. Just sit in the silence, and watch the clouds create different scenes of a masterpiece within a matter of minutes. Just let your mind take a rest from the world of words.

I didn’t mean tofall in love with you.
It’s just thatwhenever I amnear you, everythingsuddenly...

I didn’t mean to
fall in love with you.

It’s just that
whenever I am
near you, everything
suddenly feels
as if it’s going
to be okay.
