The Masters DraftKings Picks
It’s Masters Week! If you’re new to fantasy golf then go and look at online course flythroughs, read previews, look at pictures. Do what you need to to in order to understand how beautiful of a course this is! Its also remarkably well kept and that means very similar performances year in and year out. Course history is a big factor this week.
The full standings of the Future of Fantasy Golf Tour are at the bottom, but it’s important to note we have four managers with a pair of wins. The next prize is given away at three wins. I will also give away something for the first major this week as it’s been a while since we’ve had a prize!
Form Fitting
Jordan Spieth ($11,900) … 1st-2nd-1st-17th-4th-7th
Dustin Johnson ($10,500) … 6th-1st-132nd-2nd-4th
J.B. Holmes ($7,200) … 1st-71st-2nd-22nd-10th
Paul Casey ($6,300) … 9th-71st-38th-3rd-2nd
Brendon Todd ($6,300) … 30th-24th-23rd-14th-10th
Kevin Na ($6,000) … 20th-6th-10th-9th-61st-118th
You can’t leave Spieth off a current form team. This team can actually be used to gauge public ownership in the DraftKings GPPs this week. The rest of players in good form include: Patrick Reed, Henrik Stenson, Jimmy Walker, Jim Furyk, Cameron Tringale, Ryan Moore, Ryan Palmer, Keegan Bradley, and Bubba Watson.
Course Horse-tory
Adam Scott ($10,800) … 14th-1st-8th-2nd-18th-51st-25th
Lee Westwood ($8,200) … 7th-8th-3rd-11th-2nd-43rd-11th
Matt Kuchar ($9,600) … 5th-8th-3rd-27th-24th
Fred Couples ($6,400) … 20th-13th-12th-15th-6th-51st-46th
Ian Poulter ($7,400) … 20th-72nd-7th-27th-10th-20th-25th
Angel Cabrera ($7,500) … 72nd-2nd-32nd-7th-18th-1st-25th
These guys can get it done at Augusta National. Other course studs include: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Brandt Snedeker, Geoff Ogilvy, Charl Schwartzel, Miguel Angel Jimenez, and Luke Donald.
Handpicked Value Plays
Ryan Palmer ($6,600) … He hits the high draw that sets up perfect for Augusta National. He’s long off the tee, aggressive, and gets it done tee-to-green. This price is about $1K to low.
Bernd Wiesberger ($6,900) … The Austrian is long off the tee and in great form overseas this year. Top 20s in 12 of his last 16 events. Making his Masters debut, so don’t get carried away but his ownership should be pretty low for a guy with good potential for a top 25.
Webb Simpson ($6,700) … I generally have Webb locked in as a fade on long courses that are difficult. However, his stats suggest his game is changing this year. He’s hitting it longer, gaining more strokes before the green, and posting solid finishes in the process. It helps that he’s priced like a European import, not a major championship winner.

Shell Houston Open Fantasy Preview
The weather wrecked havoc on last week’s Valero Texas Open and now we stay in Texas for the Shell Houston Open.
The course dimensions of this week’s Golf Club of Houston are very similar to last weeks. A par 72 that extends past 7,400 yards. They try to replicate Augusta National as much as possible with rough lengths, runoffs around the greens, etc. but there is only so much you can do when setting up a Texas course versus one in Georgia.
The fairways are about TOUR average but the greens are pretty large and that makes them easy targets. This means targeting bombers and ball-strikers will be beneficial this week. With rain in the forecast, you can pretty much ignore putting, in my opinion.
Players to Watch
Phil Mickelson… The man, the myth, the thrill…. Mister Phil. Lefty has gained a ridiculous 2.487 strokes on the field over his last 20 rounds here at GC of Houston. That’s out of this world good, and the main reason why I’m rolling him out in my One-and-Done league this week.
Jordan Spieth… His game contends anywhere, but he may not have the same mindset. After last week’s Valero, he mentioned the GC of Houston doesn’t suit his style of play. I don’t really think that’s completely true, but sometimes internal thoughts can change the way a golfer performs. I don’t want to pay his hefty price this week if he’s just using this to clean up before Augusta.
Charley Hoffman… A disappointing Saturday blowup but it’s hard to complain with a top-15 finish. He likes playing in Texas and should earn another paycheck this week.
Martin Kaymer… Finished at the bottom last week but at least he didn’t WD like many others. It’s concerning that his strokes gained:tee-to-green is all the way down at 121st but it’s a small sample size. He’s got poor course history here or else I would be looking for a big bounce back ahead of next week.
Charl Schwartzel… Speaking of bounce backs. I think Charl is due for a big one this week. His form is poor in relation to his true talents but he should be rested up after three weeks off and ready to get back inside the top 15.
20-20 Club… The 20-20 club made it’s debut last week and went 3-for-3 in cuts made even though two of them were on the wrong side of the weather draw. This week only one golfer fits this criteria of form combined with course history…. J.B. Holmes.
Graham DeLaet… He’s almost officially on every fantasy gamers’ shit list. This would be the ideal time for him to finally get that maiden win. I feel like I say this every week. He was ninth in my rankings for this event last year, and we could see him crawl back into the top 10 this week.
Jason Kokrak… He’s long off the tee and is rolling in form ahead of this week. Sadly, I think he may be set up for letdown this week. His median strokes gained at this venue is 0.021 which may mean we will be sweating a Friday cut line with Kokrak hovering near it.
Matt Kuchar… A top-10 machine at this course and just in general. The downside is his lack of length if the rain lengthens the course this week. Still a top-tier play in all formats.
Justin Rose… The Englishman is not one to play hurt for long periods of time so I think this form is just a matter of poor circumstances. Look for him to tidy up before Augusta with a top 25 this week.
Lee Westwood… I will be heavy on Lee next week at The Masters so I’m hoping he finishes just outside the top 10 this week… Just enough to keep him under the radar.
Louis Oosthuizen… I don’t recall the last time King Louie was this high on my rankings but this course fits his eye and he’s played well leading into it. The problem always lies in his high probability to WD mid-week.
David Toms… Was the consultant in designing this course but is just 2-for-4 since. The greens are reportedly slow and soft this week, which really benefits his ball-striking + lack of putting game style.
Tony Finau… I was high on Finau preseason but had to back off after his hot start and overpricing. I’m back on the train this week as this course suits bombers and aggressive play. He’s inside the top 10 in driving distance and going for the green. Sleeper alert!
Top 25 for the 2015 Shell Houston Open
1. Phil Mickelson
2. Sergio Garcia
3. Matt Kuchar
4. Jordan Spieth

9. Patrick Reed
10. Keegan Bradley
11. Shawn Stefani
12. Charley Hoffman
13. Charl Schwartzel
14. Rickie Fowler
15. Cameron Tringale
16. Matt Jones
17. Ryan Moore
18. Justin Rose

Shell Houston Open DraftKings Picks
This is getting a little strange. People keep winning the Future of Fantasy Golf Tour contests in consecutive weeks. This time it’s esquaredgolf that turns the trick. I guess it’s just like the PGA TOUR and you can ride these DFS managers while they’re in good form!
The full standings are at the bottom, but it’s important to note we have four managers with a pair of wins. The next prize is given away at three wins. Who wants to make the leap?
Hold the phone! Before we get to lineups this week, lets make sure you check out this week’s FREE contest. This is a great warmup for Augusta National next week. Draft Today!.
Form Fitting
Daniel Berger ($7,500) … 85th-13th-72nd-2nd-10th-24th-10th
Matt Jones ($8,700) … 26th-3rd-14th-7th-59th
Nick Watney ($7,100) … 53rd=41st-22nd-2nd-7th-94th
J.B. Holmes ($9,300) … 71st-2nd-22nd-10th-2nd
Jason Kokrak ($8,800) … 11th-6th-7th-86th-41st
Brendan Steele ($8,800) … 8th-35th-11th-14th-45th-26th
This is a balanced approach to recent form but Jordan Spieth is someone you could stick at the top of this squad if you want to go more stars & scrubs with it. Others in good form over the past few months include: Patrick Reed, Paul Casey, Ryan Moore, Kyle Reifers, Carlos Ortiz, Zac Blair, Charles Howell III, and Sergio.
Course Horse-tory
Phil Mickelson ($9,500) … 12th-16th-4th-1st-35th-134th-23rd
Lee Westwood ($9,200) … 17th-10th-21st-30th-8th-11th
Cameron Tringale ($7,300) … 4th-16th-8th-73rd
Ben Crane ($5,000) … 43rd-4th-29th-24th-25th-80th-20th
Louis Oosthuizen ($6,500) … 78th-10th-3rd-16th-114th
Hunter Mahan ($8,100) … 31st-78th-1st-8th-81st-6th-93rd
This course history team gets a little risky with Ben Crane as his form is all whacked out currently. If you want to mix and match, consider J.B. Holmes, Keegan Bradley, Charl Schwartzel, Graham DeLaet, Chad Campbell, Carl Pettersson, and/or Brendon de Jonge.
Handpicked Value Plays
Graham Delaet ($7,100) … The Canuck is finally off the radar, which is when I love to invest. GDL possesses some of the best top-10 potential this week but not exactly a safe play with his current form. His course history here is good, as he’s posted just one of 14 rounds over par.
Cameron Tringale ($7,300) … He just keeps making cuts and now he gets another favorable course. Tringy has gained 26.743 strokes over the field at GC of Houston over his last 16 rounds here. Throw out his final round 81 in 2011 and that number becomes +35.8 in his last 15 rounds. Juicy!
Shawn Stefani ($7,700) … Hard to classify him as a “sleeper” this week as the hype continues to build after top 30s in eight of his last 10. Pile on his local knowledge as he’s a Houston boy, look out!

Valero Texas Open Fantasy Preview
What’s your idea of a good weekend? How about being glued to your bed without being able to open your right eye? Sound like fun? That was my weekend last week as I suffered a scratched cornea on Saturday morning and didn’t recover until Monday afternoon. As a saving grace, I WAS able to listen to the PGA TOUR audio stream via the mobile app. Thank you for that, PGA TOUR!
This week, with my eye fully healed, I’m seeing fantasy golf picks with a whole new level of clarity! First, let’s talk about the tournament. The Valero Texas Open is played on TPC San Antonio and has since 2010. The course stretched out past 7,400 yards and plays as one of the toughest non-majors on an annual basis. I noted last year that accuracy is irrelevant at this venue and going for the green is a good stat to look at. Turned out I was right on the nose as Bowditch finished last year ranked 160th in accuracy and 23rd in going for the green! Let’s see if that holds true again this year.
If you’ve been reading my blog but have yet to try out DraftKings fantasy golf, then this is the perfect week to do so. They are running a FREE Contest. Yes, completely free, with $1,000 in cash money prizes. TEST DRIVE DRAFTKINGS TODAY!
Players to Watch
Jordan Spieth… I had him as one of the safest plays for a top 25 but Joel Harrington had to burst my bubble by labeling him the Bust of The Week. If you’re not familiar, he’s been crushing it with these picks, including J.B. Holmes last week.
Kevin Na… Satisified my One-and-Done pick last week but I’m ready to hop off the train. He’s streaking but returning to the site of his infamous 16. I will pass and let him come back to Earth.
Charley Hoffman… Speaking of OAD, Charley is leading the candidates for me this week. He’s gained 52.193 strokes over the field at TPC San Antonio! That’s seven strokes over the second guy, Freddie Jac, and 26 strokes over the third, Cameron Tringale! COURSE HORSE.
Gary Woodland… One of my favorite golfers on TOUR and is ramping up to The Masters. Has below average course history in limited exposure but he’s a Kansas guy so wide open courses that are exposed to the wind should be right up his alley.
Sean O’Hair… Continues his strong play. Don’t hate him as a play but won’t be leading with him without strong course history.
20-20 Club… Golfers who have gained 20+ strokes over the field at TPC San Antonio since 2010 and also gained 20+ strokes over the last eight weeks on TOUR: Brendan Steele, Jim Furyk, Martin Laird. If you’re extremely picky when it comes to form AND course history, then these three are the guys for you.
Graham DeLaet… Sneaks into my top 25 this week but his upside is always higher. This course has been kind to maidens, could this finally be the week for the Canuck?
Jason Kokrak… Had him ranked fifth in my rankings here last year and nothing is happened to drop him too far. He’s long off the tee (13th), doesn’t rely on accuracy (158th), and is confident with his irons (17th Going for Green). With back-to-back top 10s entering the week his form is juicy as well!
Matt Kuchar… Gets the top billing this week, largely because his “off-weeks” are still top 25s.
Zach Johnson… Still hasn’t won on a par 72 course since 2007. The albatross was juicy on DraftKings last week but save him for later in the year.
Daniel Summerhays… Don’t sleep on Danny as he just missed out on this week’s 20-20 club. He’s gained 20+ strokes at TPC San Antonio but he’s one stroke shy of the “current form” criteria. A very strong cash play in DFS formats this week.
Top 25 for the 2015 Valero Texas Open
1. Matt Kuchar
2. Jim Furyk
3. Dustin Johnson
4. Charley Hoffman
5. Ryan Palmer
6. Jimmy Walker
7. Phil Mickelson
8. Jordan Spieth
9. Jason Kokrak
10. Brendan Steele
11. Daniel Summerhays
12. Gary Woodland
13. Brendon Todd
14. Freddie Jacobson
15. Russell Knox

Valero Texas Open DraftKings Picks
A congratulations is in order to esquaredgolf as he scored 546 draftkings points on his way to victory last week in the Future of Fantasy DraftKings Golf Tour contest. He bested the field average by 113.1 DK points, impressive indeed. This week we head to the middle of the country for the Valero Texas Open. Let’s check out what kind of lineups we can put together on DraftKings. FoF Golf Tour standings are posted at the end of the article.
Before we have a look this week. Make sure you check out the salaries for The Masters Millionaire Maker event. You can turn $20 into $1 Million when they tee it up at Augusta National. Reserve Your Entry Now!.
Form Fitting
Daniel Berger ($8,000) … 13th-72nd-2nd-10th-24th-10th
Matt Jones ($8,400) … 3rd-14th-7th-59th
Nick Watney ($7,600) … 53rd=41st-22nd-2nd-7th-94th
Martin Laird ($9,100) … 43rd-33rd-7th-5th
Sean O’Hair ($8,100) … 2nd-25th-29th-69th
Brendan Steele ($8,800) … 35th-11th-14th-45th-26th
This is a balanced approach to recent form but Jordan Spieth is someone you could stick at the top of this squad if you want to go more stars & scrubs with it. Others in good form entering the week include: Dustin Johnson, Harris English, Jim Furyk, Brendon Todd, Ryan Palmer, Kevin Na, Russell Knox, Jimmy Walker, Dirt McGirt, and Daniel Summeryhays.
Course Horse-tory
Charley Hoffman ($8,300) … 11th-3rd-13th-2nd-13th
Freddie Jacobson ($7,100) … 16th-15th-18th-5th-2nd
Cameron Tringale ($6,800) … 46th-83rd-8th-5th-28th
Matt Kuchar ($10,300) … 4th-22nd-13th
Pat Perez ($6,500) … 11th-5th-22nd
Jim Furyk ($11,000) … 6th-3rd
The Valero moved to TPC San Antonio in 2010 and these guys represent five of the six highest strokes gained since that time. Brendan Steele is number six but I swapped in Furyk there because he’s gained 23.606 strokes in just two appearances. Some other courses horses beyond this list include: Brendan Steele, Daniel Summerhays, Ben Curtis, Martin Laird, Martin Flores, Brian Harman, and Jerry Kelly. Overall, there isn’t a ton of course history after Charley and Freddie as people tend to gravitate away from playing this event it seems like.
Handpicked Value Plays
Chad Collins ($5,400) … Collins finished inside the top 30 here at Valero last year and has seven top 45s this season. He is criminally underpriced at $5,400 considering those two things. He’s still Chad Collins so there is always letdown possibility.
Freddie Jacobson ($7,100) … He makes a second straight sleeper pick. Last week he snagged a cut made but didn’t do much after that. This week he enters as one of the two COURSE HORSES. He’s finished inside the top 20 each of his five appearances at TPC San Antonio. There is nothing that suggests another top 20 isn’t in the works.
Marc Warren ($6,500) … For my final sleeper selection, I head across the pond. The Scot spends most of his time on the Euro Tour but he now finds himself ranked 52nd in the OWGR. The fact that he’s making a start this week shows us that he plans on getting into the Masters via the top 50 ranking. He’s finished top 30 in seven of his last eight international starts. Give him a good look at this salary.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Fantasy Preview
Last week my preview was as minimal as possible. I was in Cabo honeymooning but I’m back now and feeling refreshed after a great week in Mexico. Oh yeah, Jordan Spieth won the Valspar, that made it an even better week.
This week course is Bay Hill Club and Lodge for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It’s a par 72 that plays over 7,400 yards, a bit lengthy. The fairways are easy to hit, while the bermudagrass greens are average in both size and speed. More tournament details can be found in the Fantasy Golfanac.
One thing that jumps out to me this week is the location. Bay Hill is in Orlando, Florida. Seven of the last eight winners have lived within three hours of the venue. Martin Laird is the lone outsider from Arizona. That’s a little distorted by Tiger winning four times and the large PGA TOUR population that lives in Orlando and it’s surrounding communities. Interesting to note, nonetheless.
Golfers that live within three hours of Bay Hill include: Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, G-Mac, Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley, Brian Davis, Freddie Jacobson, Ian Poulter, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els, Russell Knox, Matt Every, Vijay Singh, Charles Howell III, GFC, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger, David Lingmerth, Camilo Villegas, George McNeill, and I’m sure I’m missing some others. The importance of local knowledge has been key over the past decade, so try to focus in on this group this week.
Players to Watch
Bubba Watson… Watson famously withdrew after the first round last year due to “allergies.” Very similar to Rory’s wisdom tooth incident a few years ago. The excuses are quite funny sometimes. Bubba lost 11 strokes to the field in that round of 81, but his other rounds here have been just fine. He’s not my favorite play this week but he should remain in contention most of the week. UPDATE: Bubba was withdrawn from the field this week due to personal reasons.
Kevin Na… My One-and-Done pick this week thanks to his B2B top 10s entering the week combined with him gaining the most strokes on the field at Bay Hill since 2008, despite playing just four of the five years. He’s gained 34.032 strokes:total in that time, with 14-of-16 rounds being above field average.
Rory McIlroy… This “slump” is not really much of a slump. Look for him to get back on top of the leaderboard this week. Maybe not the very top since he’s making his API debut, but a top 15 is a good bet.
Henrik Stenson… Enters this week with the deadly combination of course history and great form. He will be highly owned in all formats, and for good reason. His local knowledge adds fuel to the fire. Don’t be shy with the Swede this week.
Sean O’Hair… His form was trending great before last week and now it’s exploded after losing in a playoff. His course history is solid this week but it’s been hit or miss for him here. He looks good on paper but don’t be surprised if he duds in one or two rounds. Just hope they come after the cut.
Adam Scott… He’s getting a lot of flack for his lack of putting after switching to short stick. The fact remains that putting was never one of his strong suits. There aren’t many weeks where you get to pick Scott when he’s under the radar. This is one of those weeks.
Lucas Glover… Trending well ahead of this week and he’s posted three top 20s here in five tries. Could be this week’s Sean O’Hair.
Vijay Singh… I refuse to believe he’s win again now that he’s 50+ years old but he’s playing great again. Glover, O’Hair, and Vijay? WHAT YEAR IS IT!?
Brian Davis… Has gained 23+ strokes on the field over his last 18 Bay Hill rounds. You won’t find another course that fits him better than that. It helps that he lives nearby. He comes in off a top 10 finish, throw him back in the mix this week!
Chris Stroud… One of my favorite guys to back in anticipation of his first TOUR win. He’s finished top 35 each of the past three years here at Bay Hill. It’s also worth noting that he and Freddie Jacobson are closely linked again in their course history here which means scrambling is important this week.
Top 25 for the 2015 WGC Cadillac Championship

2. Kevin Na
3. Rory Mcilroy

Arnold Palmer Invitational DraftKings Picks
VirginiaWino took home his second straight Future of Fantasy Golf Tour win at last week’s Valspar. An impressive feat, and we now have a three-way race for the next prize (first to three wins). It’s never too late to join the FoF Golf Tour on DraftKings, so look for the contest link and standings at the bottom of this post. Also worth noting, I sorted the standings by strokes gained: draftkings for the first week. I also exclude all people that have less than 5 events played unless they have a win. If you don’t see your name on the standings this week, don’t worry. Your stats are still counting as long as you keep playing! Now let’s see what we can piece together on DraftKings at this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Before we have a look this week. Make sure you check out the salaries for The Masters Millionaire Maker event. They were released today. You can turn $20 into $1 Million when they tee it up at Augusta National. Reserve Your Entry.
Form Fitting
Bubba Watson ($12,300) … 3rd-14th-2nd
J.B. Holmes ($8,900) … 2nd-22nd-10th-2nd-66th
Martin Laird ($7,800) … 33rd-7th-5th
Shane Lowry ($7,800) … 17th-21st-7th
Sean O’Hair ($8,200) … 2nd-25th-29th-69th
Chad Collins ($4,600) … 16th-72nd-34th-17th
These guys have turned it on over the past eight weeks. Many of them have also had success here at Bay Hill, heyyyo. Others in great form you can’t ignore include Jason Day, Daniel Berger, Hideki Matsuyama, Brendan Steele, Paul Casey, Brandt Snedeker, William McGirt, Matt Jones, Henrik Stenson, Harris English, Brooks Koepka, and Daniel Summerhays. Okay, I guess you can ignore some of them, because you can’t pick that many golfers!
Course Horse Is
Kevin Na ($12400) … 14th-4th-30th-2nd-11th
Henrik Stenson ($8,700) … 5th-8th-15th-47th-52nd
Keegan Bradley ($6,800) … 2nd-3rd-108th
Sean O’Hair ($5,900) … 10th-40th-29th-74th-21st-2nd-3rd
Retief Goosen ($7,800) … 31st-27th-4th-36th-14th
Ben Crane ($4,300) … 65th-76th-25th-11th-59th
These guys have dominated Bay Hill since 2008. Ben Crane is the lone exception. I put together a top-heavy lineup with the first five guys and he happened to fit in at $4.3K, not bad with his average of 47th place finish here since 2008. Other course horses to take a look at: Ian Poulter, Freddie Jacobson, Hunter Mahan, John Senden, George McNeill, Lucas Glover, Brian Davis, J.B. Holmes, Charles Howell III, Kevin Streelman, Matt Every.
Handpicked Value Plays
Zach Johnson ($7,200) … The price is right….Bob. He enters the week with five straight rounds over par, which explains his crazy-low salary. He can flip the switch any week, and he’s too talented to stay down for long. This price makes it easy to back ZJ.
Freddie Jacobson ($6,500) … The Florida resident lives less than three hours away. He’s let people down recently but that will just reduce his ownership. He crushes Florida courses, mostly because he loves putting on bermuda. He’s a great scrambler (duh! his nickname is the Junkman). He owns top 20s in four of his seven starts here. Not bad, not bad.
Retief Goosen ($6,500) … The Orlando resident just makes cuts. He’s a master cutsman, and that makes him an elite option in DFS as his salary always remains under $7K. After missing his first two cuts here, he is 10-for-11. With his health improved this year, he is looking like a safe pick week in and week out.
