What is Lineage in Reiki?
Lineage is the path that Reiki has taken since Usui experienced his enlightenment and opened his school in 1922. As you will see in A Brief History of Reiki, the lineage does help to track somewhat the historical evolution of Reiki, although we are only focused on one branch of the tree here. Lineage is pretty important for some people and they make sure to include it in their training materials.

A Brief History of Reiki
Mikao Usui discovered the power of Reiki* (a universal life force energy that has been around since life began on Earth) for himself in March, 1922, while on a spiritual retreat on the sacred mountain of Kurama yama, outside Kyoto, Japan. As described in What is Reiki?, Reiki is life energy. It is universal or higher wisdom energy.

Reiki is channeled energy. It is the name for a modality or framework of energy healing that reduces stress and promotes healing. It is based on a concept of life force energy, given by a form of laying on of hands. Reiki means universal life energy, just as Prana means the same in Sanskrit.
