Wisdom Wednesday * The Gift of Darkness

“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.”

― Mary Oliver

Today’s podcast episode is called Embracing the Darkness. So my quote selection for today is fitting, but granted a little hard to find among all the quotes that vilify darkness. Evil should perhaps be vilified but we should be careful not to vilify the gift that is darkness.

Darkness brings quiet and contemplation.

Darkness cradles the seed that without it would never b...

Ep. 28 Point of Departure * Embracing the Dark

In this episode we meander into the darkness. I talk about how we are taught to perceive darkness and what that does to our psyche, which resides in darkness. Feminine power (yin) is associated with darkness and it’s time we embraced it for all that it brings to us.

Instead of fearing the dark, and women, and witches, and our own inner wisdom, it is time to re-enter it. The darkness is powerful, and so is this episode!

Intuitive Tuesday * Blind Spots for Vision

A prophet is not someone with special visions, just someone blind to most of what others see.

 ~Nassim Nicholas Taleb

Before I begin, read that quote again. . . . .

I had to read it a couple of times too. I have to say that I might be misunderstanding this quote as I found it as a standalone quote in Goodreads, and not in the context of Taleb’s writing. I have read some of his works and he is fascinating, but again, I am not familiar with his frame for this quote.

That being said, I wonder at hi...

Medicine Monday * Daydreaming Heals the Heart

A daily dose of daydreaming heals the heart, soothes the soul, and strengthens the imagination.

~Richelle E. Goodrich

You can probably remember your early days of school, where all of the sudden daydreaming was discouraged. Somehow this kibosh on daydreaming was also enacted at home. There was homework to do. Chores to do. You were discouraged from having your “head in the clouds.”

I’d like to hold a memorial now for that day in my life. How about you?

So much lost. Vision, imagination, wonder! ...

Fabulous Friday * Phoenix Inside You

Rise Up

Phoenix within you

Calling you to victory

Rise up from ashes

~Michele Jennae

As we near the end of 2020, you might look around and see your life smoldering in some ways. Fires of fear, unrest, indignation (however righteous), impatience, and judgment probably surround you.

I know they surround me. But I always have a choice to rise from the ashes. The ones left from the fires I create myself, and the ones left from the fires of others.

I can make an effort every day to choose a higher pa...

Thoughtful Thursday * Kindness Never Wasted

Love and Kindness

“Love and kindness are never wasted.” ~Helen James

The other day I overheard a conversation where it could have been so easy for someone to respond with a witty quip that would have been unkind.

When a young girl said, “I’m not going to say anything,” the response to her was “You don’t have to not say anything for me?”

Her reply was perfect. “I am not saying anything for me!”

She had chosen to safeguard her own heart and keep careful watch over something she could have said but...

Medicine Monday * Sacred Scars

Proof of Healing

Some people see scars, and it is wounding they remember. To me they are proof of the fact that there is healing.

  ~Linda Hogan

My husband has always loved his scars, and he has more than a few to love. He feels like he has earned them all. Even the ones he has from injuries caused by the foolishness of his youth.

I always admired that about him, but I never really thought about a scar as proof of healing. Have you?

I think many of us would rather not have scars so that maybe we ...

Intuitive Tuesday * Wild Intuition

Into the Wilderness

“At times you have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover is wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.”

~Alan Alda

I love this quote. And in fact, I happen to enjoy the wilderness of my intuition.

I didn’t always. You see a was a pleaser. I was a compulsive rule-following people-pleaser. Pleasing everyone but myself ultimately. Oh, I thought I was pleased, having pleased everyone else. Avoiding conflict (not rea...

Medicine Monday * Eagle Medicine

Powerful Eagle Medicine

“A very great wisdom is needed and the man [woman] who has it must follow it as the eagle seeks the deepest blue of the sky.”

~Tasunke Witko (Crazy Horse)

In many cultures, it is believed that all things possess an inherent virtue, power, and wisdom. For these people, the trees hold medicine, the stones hold medicine, the weather of all kinds hold medicine, the animals hold medicine.

Eagle is one of the most revered birds in many cultures, and we see it as the abiding s...
