Be Wise: Look Ahead and Face Reality

Many people in life start out well, but they end up progressing poorly because they don’t plan for the pitfalls. But the Bible says the wise person looks ahead and faces reality.

As we make plans for our future, we all face pitfalls, such as cultural distractions, voices of doubt, tempting shortcuts, and discouraging delays. Just look at Noah: He faced a variety of obstacles after God told him to build the ark, but he overcame them — and you can, too.

Now, this doesn’t mean God will give you a goal as audacious as building an ark, but I pray he’ll give you a big goal — even an audacious one — for your next 10 years.

The Bible says, “The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won’t face facts” (Proverbs 14:8 TLB). By looking ahead, we’ll not only be prepared to spot the pitfalls when they come into our lives, we’ll also be equipped to make plans that help us become the person God wants us to be.

Ask God to help you establish goals for the next decade of your life. Then you’ll be ready to move forward and learn how to handle the pitfalls that could potentially keep you from getting where God wants you to go.

Investing in God’s Treasury Fund as an Act of Worship

We invest in God’s Treasury Fund by using some of our money to express worship. There’s nothing we can give God that he needs, and God certainly doesn’t need our money.

But when we give an offering to God — an undesignated, planned, and proportional offering where and when we worship — we’re saying, “God I love you.” That’s the first purpose of life: to know and love God. You’re planned for his pleasure.

The Bible says, “Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income” (Proverbs 3:9 TLB). We honor God when we tithe. It’s an act of worship.

God wants you to give to this fund before you invest in any of the other funds. Why? He wants our hearts more than anything else. He doesn’t want our money; he wants what it represents.

Wherever I put my money shows my priorities and values.

This week, look through your checkbook and your credit card statements. What do they say about where your heart is today?

Where do you want your heart to be? Put your money there!

Invertir en el Fondo de Inversiones de Dios Como un Acto de Adoración

Nosotros invertimos en el fondo de inversiones de Dios cuando usamos algo de nuestro dinero para alabarlo. No existe nada que le podamos dar a Dios que él necesite, y ciertamente Dios no necesita nuestro dinero.

Pero cuando le damos una ofrenda a Dios – una ofrenda no designada, planeada, y proporcional donde y cuando alabamos – estamos diciendo, “Dios te amo”. Ese es el primer propósito de la vida: conocer y amar a Dios. Fuiste planeado para Su deleite.

La Biblia dice, “Honra al Señor con tus riquezas y con lo mejor de todo lo que produces” (Proverbios 3:9 NTV). Honramos a Dios cuando diezmamos. Es un acto de adoración.

Dios quiere que inviertas en este fondo antes de que inviertas en cualquier otro fondo. ¿Por qué? Porque quiere nuestro corazón más que cualquier otra cosa. No quiere nuestro dinero; quiere lo que representa.

Ahí donde pongo mi dinero muestra mis prioridades y valores.

Esta semana, mira tus estados de cuenta de tu chequera y tarjeta de crédito. ¿Qué te dicen a cerca de donde está tu corazón el día de hoy?

¿Dónde quieres que esté tu corazón? ¡Pon tu dinero ahí!

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Si la gente viera en detalle el reporte de tus gastos, ¿esos detalles revelarían un corazón completamente devoto a Dios? ¿Por qué o por qué no?
¿Encuentras fácil o difícil ver el diezmo como acto de adoración? ¿Por qué?
¿Cómo estás profundizando en el amor y el conocimiento de Dios?

Invest in Eternity Through Your Giving

God wants us to use some money to take the Good News around the world. We invest in eternity every time we use money to bring others to Jesus.

When you save to go on a mission trip, that’s an investment in God’s Global Fund. When you help others go on a mission trip, that’s an investment in God’s Global Fund, too.

This also includes using your money to encourage your friends to trust in Jesus. Luke 16:9 says, “Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home” (NLT).

Imagine when you die and get to heaven, you will encounter friends who say, “Thank you for investing in me. I’m in heaven because of you! I’m not your friend for life; I’m your friend for eternity. I’m in heaven because you cared enough. You bought me a Bible. You bought me a ticket for that life-changing event. You gave me a book that pointed me to Jesus.”

Others will say, “You spent your money to help spread the Good News to my village, even though you’d never seen us before. Because you gave, I became a follower of Christ. I’m in heaven because of you!”

Helping others find Jesus is the highest use of your money. How will you invest in God’s Global Fund? Will you go on a mission trip or provide funds so someone else can go on a mission trip? Will you give so that your friends or total strangers will hear about Jesus?

Invierte en la Eternidad a través de lo que Das

Dios quiere que usemos algo de dinero para llevar las Buenas Nuevas a todo el mundo. Invertimos en la eternidad cada vez que usamos dinero para llevar a otros a Jesús.

Esto también incluye usar tu dinero para animar a tus amigos a confiar en Jesús. Lucas 16: 9 dice: “Usen sus recursos mundanos para beneficiar a otros y para hacer amigos. Entonces, cuando esas posesiones terrenales se acaben, ellos les darán la bienvenida a un hogar eterno” (NTV).

Imagina que cuando mueras y llegues al cielo, encontrarás amigos que dirán: “Gracias por invertir en mí. ¡Estoy en el cielo gracias a ti! No soy tu amigo de por vida; soy tu amigo por la eternidad. Estoy en el cielo porque te importé lo suficiente. Tú me compraste una Biblia. Me compraste un boleto para ese evento que cambió mi vida. Me diste un libro que me dirigió a Jesús”.

Otros dirán: “Usaste tu dinero para ayudar a difundir las Buenas Nuevas en mi aldea, aunque nunca nos viste antes. Debido a que diste, me convertí en un seguidor de Cristo. ¡Estoy en el cielo gracias a ti!”.

Ayudar a otros a encontrar a Jesús es el mayor uso de tu dinero. ¿Cómo vas a invertir en el Fondo Mundial de Dios? ¿Realizarás un viaje misionero o proporcionarás fondos para que otra persona pueda realizar un viaje misionero? ¿Darás para que tus amigos o completos desconocidos escuchen acerca de Jesús?

Be Generous Like God Is Generous with You

God wants you to use some of your money to help people in need. God didn’t put us on this earth to live for ourselves. He blesses us so that we can bless others.

This is all part of how God makes us more like himself. God is generous. Everything we have in life is because of God’s generosity. We wouldn’t have anything — we wouldn’t even be alive — if it weren’t for God’s generosity. And God wants us to be generous like he is.

Imagine if your father were a billionaire, and he wanted to share his fortune with you. But he knew you needed to be tested first to see if you could handle it.

So he’d give you a set amount of money and say, “I want you to learn to live on less so you can use the rest to help others. I’m going to be watching you to see how you manage and distribute my resources. If you do well, I’m going to will it all to you.”

How would you use that money?

God particularly wants us to be generous with the poor. Throughout the Bible, God tells us he is watching how we help the poor, and he attaches tremendous promises if we do so. For example:

“Give to the poor and you will never be in need. If you close your eyes to the poor, many people will curse you” (Proverbs 28:27 GNT).

“When you give to the poor, it is like lending to the Lord, and the Lord will pay you back” (Proverbs 19:17 GNT).

The more you help others, the more God blesses you. He gives to you so you can give to others.

Why? Because God wants you to be like him, and God is a giver!

Sé Generoso Como Dios es Generoso Contigo

“Dale de comer al hambriento, y un día serás recompensado. Comparte lo que tienes con siete y hasta ocho amigos, pues no sabes si mañana el país estará en problemas”. Eclesiastés 11:1-2 (TLA)

Dios quiere que uses parte de tu dinero para ayudar a las personas necesitadas. Dios no nos puso en esta tierra para vivir por nosotros mismos. Él nos bendice para que podamos bendecir a otros.

Esto es parte de cómo Dios nos hace más como Él. Dios es generoso Todo lo que tenemos en la vida se debe a la generosidad de Dios. No tendríamos nada, ni siquiera estaríamos vivos, si no fuera por la generosidad de Dios. Y Dios quiere que seamos generosos como Él.

Imagínate si tu padre fuera multimillonario y quisiera compartir su fortuna contigo. Pero Él sabía que tenías que ser probado primero para ver si podías manejarlo.

Así que te daría una cantidad fija de dinero y te diría: “Quiero que aprendas a vivir con menos para que puedas usar el resto para ayudar a los demás”. Te voy a observar para ver cómo administras y distribuyes mis recursos. Si lo haces bien, te lo confiaré todo”.

¿Cómo usarías ese dinero?

Dios particularmente quiere que seamos generosos con los pobres. A lo largo de la Biblia, Dios nos dice que Él está viendo cómo ayudamos a los pobres, y Él nos da tremendas promesas si lo hacemos. Por ejemplo:

“Al que ayuda al pobre no le faltará nada, en cambio, los que cierran sus ojos ante la pobreza serán maldecidos”. (Proverbios 28:27 NTV).
” Si ayudas al pobre, le prestas al Señor, ¡y él te lo pagará!” (Proverbios 19:17 NTV).

Mientras más ayudes a otros, más te bendecirá Dios. Él te da para que puedas dar a otros.

¿Por qué? Porque Dios quiere que seas como Él, ¡y Dios es un dador!

Tómate tu tiempo para contar tus bendiciones. ¿Cómo te ha bendecido Dios en tu familia, tus amistades, tu carrera y tu vida espiritual?
Si hoy te presentaras ante Dios y le dieras cuenta de cómo has usado tus bendiciones, ¿te sentirías avergonzado u orgulloso de tu informe? ¿Por qué?
¿De qué manera puedes usar tus recursos esta semana para bendecir a alguien que lo necesita?

How to Invest in the Fellowship of Your Church

God wants us to use some of our money to encourage fellowship, to show love to other believers, and to build relationships.

Anytime I give my money to God, it draws me closer to God. Anytime I give my money to another person, it draws me closer to that person. When I give money to people in my small group or I invest in my small group, I grow closer to those in the group.

Anytime I go out and buy a nice card and write a note of encouragement, I’ve just invested in God’s Mutual Fund. When another believer is discouraged and needs somebody to talk to and I buy that person lunch, I’ve just invested in God’s Mutual Fund.

The Bible says, “When you extend hospitality to Christian brothers and sisters, even when they are strangers, you make the faith visible” (3 John 1:5 The Message). When we invest our money in developing relationships within the church, it points others to God. In other words, when you invest in the fellowship of your church, it helps bring people to Christ.

Be creative! Be innovative! Put some thought into it. “Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out” (Hebrews 10:24 The Message).

Anytime you give to other believers, it draws you closer to them!

Cómo Invertir en el Compañerismo de tu Iglesia

Dios quiere que usemos algo de nuestro dinero para animar el compañerismo, para mostrar amor a otros creyentes, y para construir relaciones.

En cualquier ocasión en que doy de mi dinero a Dios, me acerca más a Dios. Cualquier ocasión que doy mi dinero a otra persona, me hace más cercano a esa persona. Cuando le doy dinero a personas en mi congregación o invierto en mi congregación, me vuelvo más cercano a la congregación.

Cuando salgo y compro una bonita tarjeta y escribo una nota de ánimo, simplemente estoy invirtiendo en el fondo mutuo de Dios. Cuando otro creyente está desanimado y necesita a alguien con quien hablar y le compro a esa persona una comida, solo he invertido en el fondo mutuo de Dios.

La Biblia dice, “Querido hermano, tú te portas muy bien cuando ayudas a los otros seguidores de Cristo, especialmente a los que llegan de otros lugares” (3 Juan 1:5 TLA). Cuando invertimos nuestro dinero en desarrollar relaciones dentro de la iglesia, acercas a otros a Dios. En otras palabras, cuando inviertes en el compañerismo de tu iglesia, ayudas a traer personas a Cristo.

¡Se creativo! ¡Se innovador! Piensa en algo. “Pensemos en maneras de motivarnos unos a otros a realizar actos de amor y buenas acciones” (Hebreos 10:24 NTV).

En cualquier ocasión que le das a otros creyentes, ¡te hace más cercano a ellos!

Let go of your hurts, habits, and hang-ups…

What do you do when things don’t go the way you want them to or as fast as you want them to? Do you take matters into your own hands?

Maybe you don’t wait, you don’t trust God, or you don’t pray, because deep down you don’t think God will provide for your needs.

God’s waiting for you to say that. He’ll wrestle with you as long as it takes for you to give up trying to control everything . . . and put it all in his hands.

As Matthew 5:3 says, “God blesses those who . . . realize their need for him.”
